Hello, dear Movies & TV Shows community, I hope you are having a great day! I want to share with you a new review, this time I want to give you my opinion about a very successful series on the Netflix platform, it is "The Queen's Gambit" starring the very talented actress: Anya Taylor-Joy. You will surely remember her for movies like The Witch or The Menu, among many other well-known productions. This actress has been stealing the spotlight lately, getting into more and more projects, her movies are really enjoyable, and she gives her best in every role, she has quickly become one of my favorite actresses. But this series was my first full exposure to her performance as a leading lady... I decided to watch this series because she was starring in it... chess is not really my thing, although I admit that in my early high school years I played quite a bit in the library... but soon after I guess I lost interest... Good thing I gave this series a chance, it is inspiring, and very entertaining, there are scenes of great tension, accompanied by spectacular photography, it achieves its main purpose, to catch you in the competitive world of chess.

Les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, esta vez quiero darles mi opinión sobre una serie muy exitosa de la plataforma de Netflix, se trata de “The Queen's Gambit” protagonizada por la talentosísima actriz: Anya Taylor-Joy. Seguro la recordarán por películas como The Witch o The Menu, entre muchas otras conocidas producciones. Esta actriz se ha robado el foco últimamente, cada vez ingresando a mayores proyectos, sus películas realmente son muy disfrutables, y da lo mejor de sí en cada papel, se ha convertido rápidamente en unas de mis actrices favoritas. Pero esta serie fue mi primera cercanía total hacia su actuación como protagonista.. Decidí ver esta serie porque la protagonizaba ella.. realmente el ajedrez no es lo mío, aunque admito que en mis primeros años de secundaria jugaba bastante en la biblioteca.. pero poco después supongo que perdí el interés.. Menos mal que le di la oportunidad a esta serie, es inspiradora, y muy entretenida, hay escenas de mucha tensión, acompañadas de una espectacular fotografía, logra su principal cometido, atraparte en el mundo competitivo del ajedrez.

I didn't have many expectations when I started it, but at the end of the first episode it caught me. While watching the rest of the episodes, I could understand why it had so much fame, at the time of its premiere many people recommended it, and over the years more people who at the time did not give it a chance, were encouraged to watch it and loved it. The story is quite simple compared to other series, we will see the life of a girl named Beth, a young girl with an incredible talent for chess, in the course of the episodes we will understand her motivations, and we will get into her tragic childhood in an orphanage... how this was decisive to develop her talent and personality to the maximum. The story adequately touches on Beth's traumas, and how she is forced to overcome them, finding in the board game a refuge, and later, a passion, without knowing it, this game would change her life a lot. Quickly, as soon as she starts to take it seriously, we see her stand out and shine in local tournaments, I really liked how her ambition was growing... I easily empathized with her, watching her games was entertaining, the soundtrack helped a lot in this... it soon made me want to support her!

No tenía muchas expectativas al comenzarla.. pero al finalizar el primer episodio me atrapo. Mientras veía el resto de capítulos, pude comprender por qué tuvo tanta fama, al momento de estrenarse muchas personas la recomendaron, y con el pasar de los años más personas que en su momento no le dieron una oportunidad, se animaron a verla y la amaron. Yo la vi cuando habían pasado unos cuantos meses de su estreno.. la historia es bastante simple comparada con otras series, veremos la vida de una chica llamada Beth, una joven con un talento increíble para el ajedrez, en el transcurso de los episodios comprenderemos sus motivaciones, y nos adentraremos en su trágica infancia en un orfanato.. como esto fue decisivo para desarrollar al máximo su talento y personalidad. La historia toca de forma adecuada los traumas de Beth, y como se ve forzada a superarlos, encontrando en el juego de mesa un refugio, y más tarde, una pasión, sin saberlo, este juego le cambiaría mucho la vida. Rápidamente, en cuanto empieza a tomárselo en serio, la vemos destacar y lucirse en torneos locales, me gustó mucho como su ambición iba creciendo.. De manera fácil empaticé con ella, ver sus partidas era entretenido, la banda sonora ayudaba bastante en esto.. pronto me dieron ganas de apoyarla!

In the course of the series, we see the path that Beth has chosen, as she has to face her personal problems, inner demons, as well as the addictions she has developed, while she climbs the chess hierarchy. Obviously, as stronger and stronger opponents arrive, we see how she evolves, and how she manages to face her opponents using an incredible and admirable determination. Anya Taylor-Joy does an incredible job playing Beth, she knew perfectly how to convey the complexity of this protagonist, she manages to convey a lot with simple looks, few words, she manages to affect so many people without shouting or being energetic, just with her skill and style. This series also has a great supporting cast, it is interesting to see how the protagonist relates to the guys she faces, and it makes you wonder if she will really end up falling in love with someone or not... since this is not something really important in Beth's life, so it makes the viewer draw their own conclusions. Another great point was the setting, this I love, the costumes, sets, and chess centers... Everything reflects an incredible detail behind. As I mentioned, the photography is simply amazing! There are beautiful frames, showing us all the glamour of Beth and her world. The series portrays the chess competitions very well, for people who are not familiar with this game, they may find it curious that it is so competitive, I was quite surprised. I liked how Beth not only likes to play, but little by little she becomes obsessed with improving, studying new strategies, analyzing opponents... she wants to be the best. It's very gratifying to see how she faces the different opponents that come out, equally passionate, just like her...

En el transcurso de la serie, vemos el camino que ha escogido Beth, se ve en la necesidad de enfrentar sus problemas personales, demonios internos, como también las adicciones que ha desarrollado.. esto mientras va escalando en la jerarquía del ajedrez. Obviamente, van llegando rivales más y más fuertes, vemos cómo evoluciona, y como se las arregla para enfrentar a sus contrincantes usando una determinación increíble y admirable. Anya Taylor-Joy hace un increíble trabajo interpretando a Beth, supo perfectamente como transmitir la complejidad de esta protagonista, logra transmitir mucho con simples miradas, pocas palabras, logra afectar a tantas personas sin necesidad de gritar o ser energética, solo con su habilidad y estilo. Esta serie tiene también un gran reparto de secundarios, es interésate ver como la protagonista se va relacionando con los chicos a los que se enfrenta, y te hace pensar si de verdad terminara enamorándose de alguno o no.. ya que esto no es algo realmente importante en la vida de Beth, así que hace que el espectador saque sus propias conclusiones. Otro punto genial fue la ambientación, esto a mí me encanta, los vestuarios, escenarios, y los centros de ajedrez.. Todo refleja un increíble detalle detrás. Como les mencionaba, la fotografía es simplemente increíble! Hay encuadros bellos, que nos muestran todo el glamour de Beth y de su mundo. La serie retrata muy bien las competencias de ajedrez, para las personas que no están familiarizadas con este juego, les puede resultar curioso que este sea tan competitivo, a mí me sorprendió bastante. Me gusto como a Beth no solo le gusta jugar, poco a poco se obsesiona con mejorar, estudiar nuevas estrategias, analizar contrincantes.. quiere ser la mejor.. Es muy gratificante ver como se enfrenta a los distintos oponentes que van saliendo, igual de apasionados, justo como ella..

This production avoids falling into simplistic speeches, Beth does not seek to prove anything to anyone, she does not need to, she just wants to win, to win with her effort and talent on the board. I liked how the script was able to perfectly balance the sports plot related to the board game, and the personal drama of our protagonist. We see how the relationship between Beth, and her adoptive mother evolves... it becomes touching, and it's interesting to see beyond Beth's sports facade, to know more of her life, more about her... I didn't like that it was ALL chess. I really appreciate that they have shown that duality of the protagonist, although in the last chapters we see how the tone becomes a bit melodramatic, this does not take away all the previous development we saw, the series ends in an emotional way, and can get to convey a kind of bittersweet feeling.. the journey from the beginning to the end seems the end of a long journey, and that's exactly what it is. I give this series a rating of 8.5/10. I thought it was a very good miniseries, it has a very original story... it entertains you a lot, it also inspires you a lot, with a few episodes you get hooked in the world of chess, Anya certainly makes it incredible... This series managed to win nine Emmy awards, and among them I highlight the category: the best "exceptional limited or anthology series" and for the "best direction for a limited series or film". I think we need more ambitious and addictive stories like this one, I totally recommend it, don't let the chess thing stop you, this story will surely find a way to captivate you. Esta producción evita caer en discursos simplones, Beth no busca probarle nada a nadie, no necesita hacerlo, ella solo quiere salir vencedora, ganar con su esfuerzo y talento en el tablero. Me gusto como el guion supo equilibrar perfectamente la trama deportiva relacionada con el juego de mesa, y el drama personal de nuestra protagonista. Vemos como la relación entre Beth, y su madre adoptiva evoluciona.. se vuelve conmovedora, y es interesante ver más allá de la fachada deportiva de Beth, conocer más de su vida, más de ella.. No me fuera gustado que TODO fuera ajedrez. Agradezco mucho que hayan mostrado esa dualidad de la protagonista, si bien en los últimos capítulos vemos como el tono se vuelve un poco melodramático, esto no quita todo el desarrollo previo que vimos, la serie termina de manera emotiva, y puede llegar a transmitir una especie de sensación agridulce.. el recorrido desde el principio hasta el final parece el fin de un largo viaje, y es exactamente lo que es. Le doy de calificación a esta serie un: 8.5/10. Me pareció una miniserie muy buena, tiene una historia bastante original.. te entretiene mucho, también te inspira mucho, con pocos episodios te enganchas en el mundo del ajedrez, Anya sin duda lo hace increíble.. Esta serie logró llevarse nueve premios Emmy, y entre ellos destaco el de la categoría: la mejor "serie limitada o de antología excepcional" y por la "mejor dirección por una serie o película limitada". Creo que necesitamos en la actualidad más historias ambiciosas, y adictivas como lo fue esta, la recomiendo totalmente, que lo del ajedrez no te frene, esta historia seguramente encontrara la forma de cautivarte.
