It was one of those dull afternoons, I decided to scroll tiktok and that was when I stumbled across a scene from this masterpiece. You know, short videos have a way of catching one's attention. This one did that very effectively. I wanted to understand what was going on, so I went ahead to download the movie. And it definitely changed the vibe of the entire afternoon.

The Truman Show is an old classic comedy made in 1998. It airs for 1hr 43 minutes and it has earned over 40 awards.

PLOT

Movie producer Christoff comes up with a genius idea for a show. He decided to make the first genuine reality show in a world dominated by generic movies and shows. But how? By creating an imaginary world and raising a child in it. Hence, the Truman Show is born. Every single person other than Truman is a paid actor with millions watching Truman grow up in real-time. How long before Truman figures out something is not right and he's in an artificial world?

MY THOUGHTS

The movie has a very simple premise but an interesting and thought provoking one. Surely I'm not the only one who had that crazy imagination when I was a kid that the entire world revolved around me. This storyline tickled that part of the brain. However, I felt like they could have gone with a mysterious front and not made it known to the viewer that Truman was in a show so early on. It'd have been crazier finding out at the same time with Truman. But then it may also have been too complex for some viewers as well, so I guess they took the safer route. Nonetheless, the movie felt different in a good way.

It's an old movie, but I think this is one of those that stands the test of time. One can even say it is ahead of its time. Then Jim Carrey, this man is good. He was the perfect fit for Truman. Quirky, interesting, and a jolly and adventurous young lad. 5-star performance from him.

The effects in the movie are very good. Even in this day and age, it is very much respectable. There's no scene you'll watch and be like, what even is that? Not something one can say about a lot of other movies from that time.

There are a couple of loopholes here and there, but that can be said for every movie both old and new, so there's nothing there.

The Truman Show is one of those classics you just sit down to watch with family and friends and a bowl of popcorn on a warm Sunday afternoon in the air conditioned living room. I'd give it a solid 9/10. You should definitely watch this if you are yet to see it.
