Stanley Ipkiss - rings a bell?

How many of you have seen the movie - The Mask?

Just today, I happened to see a bit of it on one of the channels on the TV. It reminded me of classy movies. Life was also much simpler then and we could watch movies without looking at the mobile screen every ten seconds. Movies were watched without any interruption and comedy and musicals were a family affair.

Snacks in the movie theater were limited to those sold outside the hall by the staff and it was usually Cadbury's, biscuits. jellies and sometimes samosas. The oily samosas were usually a no-no because of the excess oil, of course.

People had fun while watching a movie and entertainment was pure. I need not mention the scene today. Loud noises, unnecessary ads, popcorn tubs that cost a lot, and mobile screens that light up now and then - it is not worth watching it from a theater unless you really want to experience the magic like when we went to watch the Black Panther movie and the whole lot of us seated inside were so awed by the scenes that unfolded before us. It was truly magical.

I wish we had watched the movie - The Mask from inside a theater because it would have given us a lot of laughs and laughing along with others is a great experience. We need more movies like The Mask to lighten the situations that are rocking the world in a bad way. The horrifying scenes shown on news channels are making me wonder if the supreme power above will lose patience once and for all.

The entertainment industry has to realize the importance of producing wholesome movies that can spread values and important socially relevant messages and try to influence society in such a way that man will not hate man and will try to work for the betterment of the planet instead of unleashing crimes and destroying life.

People now need able storytellers who convince others to believe in love and humanity rather than produce movies that are filled with crime and punishment.' A lot of 'super heroes' from India are now competing with each other to star in movies filled with violence. it is not what people want or need. The masses are now shifting towards social media platforms that can be made and shown easily through the mobile. Soon, big budget movies will be a thing of the past a few decades from now. So, it will be better for movie houses to reconsider preoducing wholesome entertainment and strike the right chord to survive.

Coming back to Ipkiss, Jim Carrey is a very good actor and a good human being too. I wish he had got character roles as well.
