Charles Chaplin Painting on Cardboard [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are well, today I want to share a fun and very easy way to make art, I have done it before but I share it as if it were the first time. I have made on a piece of cardboard a portrait of the cinema legend Charles Chaplin, someone who revolutionized acting and everything related to the seventh art, with many films to his credit, I chose for the portrait a famous image from his film The Boy, where it has a very characteristic look. I made the portrait by making a stencil-style figure that I then cut out with a knife to give it a relief shape and finally I painted it with acrylic paint. I leave you with the step by step....

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, hoy quiero compartir una forma divertida y muy fácil de hacer arte, ya lo he realizado con anterioridad pero lo comparto como si fuera la primera vez. He realizado en una pieza de cartón un retrato de la leyenda del cine Charles Chaplin, alguien que revolucionó la actuación y todo lo referente al séptimo arte, con muchas películas en su haber, escogí para el retrato una imagen famosa de su película El Chico, donde tiene una mirada muy característica. Hice el retrato haciendo una figura en estilo stencil que luego fui recortando con una navaja para darle forma de relieve y finalmente la pinté con pintura acrílica. Los dejo con el paso a paso.

I made the sketch on top of a very hard cardboard, it belonged to a computer case, so I used it for this purpose. I drew the entire face in a stencil style, where the design is very minimalist, a style that I really like to use.

Hice el boceto encima de un cartón muy duro, pertenecía a una caja de computadora, así que la usé con este propósito. Dibuje todo el rostro en estilo stencil, donde el diseño queda muy minimalista, estilo que me gusta mucho utilizar.

After finishing drawing I begin to make some cuts on the cardboard surface with a knife, the objective is to cut the parts that are part of the shadow of the face and then gradually lift that layer of cardboard so that the relief can be observed inside. So with the knife I am very patiently making the cuts along the entire line that I drew before.

Luego de terminar de dibujar comienzo a hacer unos cortes sobre la superficie e cartón con una navaja, el objetivo es cortar las partes que son parte de la sombra del rostro y luego levantar poco a poco esa capa de cartón para que se pueda observar el relieve interior. Así que con la navaja voy con mucha paciencia haciendo los cortes por toda la línea que dibujé antes.

The next step is to remove the cardboard layer, I do this using a knitting needle, to lift very carefully. It is the part that I consider the most complicated because if the cardboard breaks the work is completely ruined, so with a lot of patience and concentration it can be achieved. This way I remove the entire layer of cardboard and when seen from another perspective the drawing looks great!

El siguiente paso es retirar la capa de cartón de, lo hago utilizando una aguja de tejer, para levantar con mucho cuidado. Es la parte que yo considero más complicado porque si se rompe el cartón se estropea el trabajo por completo, de manera que con mucha paciencia y concentración se puede lograr. Así retiro toda la capa de cartón y cuando se observa desde otras perspectiva el dibujo luce genial!

Now it is the turn to apply paint, first of all the white color on the entire part of the face and on some small parts that belong to the suit and the hat. Later, so that the painting would not be completely flat, I added a gray tone to give more expression to the face, thus adding a few shadows, I think it was the right choice.

Ahora es el turno de aplicar pintura, en primer lugar el color blanco en toda la parte del rostro y en algunas partes pequeñas que pertenecen al traje y al sombrero. Despues, para que la pintura no me quedara totalmente plana, agregué un tono gris para darle más expresión al rostro, así agregando unas pocas sombras, creo que fue elección acertada.

Finally I made a small cardboard frame to place in the painting, I painted it with matte black paint and then attached it to the painting with glue. In this way it was finished.

Por último hice un pequeño marco de cartón para colocar en el cuadro, lo pinte con pintura negra de tono mate y luego lo pegué al cuadro con pegamento. De esta manera quedó finalizado.

This is how this painting by Charles Chaplin was finished, if I had added many colors it would have made a good pop-art, however I like neutral tones, in simplicity there is sometimes a lot of elegance. I really liked doing this painting, and before doing it I also saw the film, although my favorite is Modern Times, and secondly The Dictator, what I have no doubt about is that he was a great actor and also a great person, who He knew how to make millions laugh while doing the coolest thing in cinema, in his beginnings. For now I say goodbye, I hope you liked this mixed technique, I say goodbye until a new opportunity.

Así quedó finalizado esta pintura de Charles chaplin, si le hubiera agregado muchos colores habría salido un buen pop-art, sin embargo me gustan los tonos neutros, en la simpleza a veces hay mucha elegancia. Me gustó mucho hacer este cuadro, y también antes de hacerlo vi la película, aunque mi favorita es Tiempos Modernos, y en segundo lugar El Dictador, lo que si no tengo duda es de que fue un gran actor y también una gran persona, que supo hacer reir a millones mientras hacía lo más genial del cine, en sus comienzos. Por ahora me despido, espero que les haya gustado esta técnica mixta, me despido hasta una nueva oportunidad.
