FanBoys Toxicity Index

If you are a movie lover and you like to talk and have conversation about movies then I am sure you had a conversation with probably every type of toxic fan.

source

Harry Potter: Fairly benevolent fandom, they rarely get involved in fights and are not characterized by particular gatekeeping. Usually these are former nerdy kids who used to send letters to J.K. Rowling and used the magic of the franchise as an escapism from their family toxicity.

Toxicity index: 3/10

David Lynch: Narcissistic fans who fetishize the director's work by turning him into a messiah, abuse the term lynchian at every opportunity for anything that has even the slightest hint of inanity/otherworldliness even if it has nothing to do with Lynch, they screw up every time they see weirdness patterns on the floor and red curtains on the walls, they have made Twin Peaks a staple of their persona but have nothing to say if you ask them their analytical view of it, they relentlessly criticize the dominance of capitalist civilization but have bought an overpriced bucket of Damn Fine Coffee, they love Lynch's spirituality but would mock a friend mercilessly if he told them he's taken up transcendental meditation, they judge their fellow humans by whether they've cried at LLorando on Mulholland Drive, and generally feel unique because they think they're communicating on a deeper level. level those alone personally with a creator who is literally the favorite of about half the people who have ever seen cinema.

Toxicity Index: 4/10

A24: MCU fans in true kino version. It's actually a studio that has come up with the ultimate scam: giving viewers the same movie over and over again, convincing them they're seeing something special simply because they've learned to use terms like "arthouse", "elevated" and "aesthetic". . They form their opinions about cinema through formulaic video essays, they cleverly memorize 25-word reviews on Letterboxd, they like Anya Taylor-Joy but stopped now that everyone knows about her, and they're thinking about starting a cinematic Instagram with trivia, frames and color palettes but looking for the right name (for about 2 years now).

Toxicity Index: 5/10

Marvel Cinematic Universe: The modern archetype of nerd fandom. I personally don't find it that toxic, mainly because it's characterized by a lot of naivety/pimpiness/enthusiasm, which makes it lean more towards FUCKING A CHILD. In any case, we're talking about average luna park goers who just don't understand why old weirdo boomer cinephiles don't like them. They just want to smell them.

Toxicity index: 6/10

SnyderVerse: The nemesis of the MCU fan. Essentially it's the same thing, with the difference that the Snyder fandom thinks it's SERIOUS and DARK so it's not all about CHILDREN and FLOORS like Marvel. Actually they are the same man-childs of course. Extra ironic points that they take a stand in favor of boomer cinephiles against Marvel thinking that they will find DC something different while they don't even understand the difference because all these superheroes are the same thing. Excluded from the category are giga-chad kings who are fans of the rest of Snyder's filmography outside the DCEU.

Toxicity Index: 7/10

Game of Thrones: After the finale, no one is a fan of the series anymore, so the fandom itself is mainly of archaeological interest. But that doesn't erase the memories of bottomless toxicity that fans of the books shared every Monday with the moans, the spoilers and the "haha well you haven't seen anything yet". The fact that all the rest of us saw the finale on television that they will wait forever in the books is one of the most striking indications of karmic justice being served.

Toxicity Index: 7/10

Christopher Nolan: Basically the same thing with Lynch fans except they're all boys.

Toxicity index: 8/10

Breaking Bad: The television equivalent of LotR fans. On the surface, they may seem complete and benign, but if you dare to articulate even the slightest negative criticism, then they turn into a bloodthirsty beast. You usually recognize them from the fact that they consider Breaking Bad THE BEST SERIES EVER while the only series they had seen before Netflix were Friends, Lost, Prison Break, the 742 variations of Law and Order and generally everything that was shown on Greek television . the Drinking game of toxicity: you drink a shot every time they say "CARIOLA SKYLER".

Toxicity index: 8/10

BoJack Horseman: Depressing sadbois/fuckbois who identify with BoJack because they're also low-key beta-male toxic thugs wallowing in their own self-pity, which blinds them to the fact that what they're seeing is just Paolo-level cheesy abelosophy Coelho in mikimau version.

Toxicity index: 8/10

Rick and Morty: To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a firm grasp of theoretical physics, most of the jokes will slip past the average viewer's mind. There's also Rick's zero perspective, which is cleverly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for example. The fans understand these things. They have the intellectual capacity to really appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they are not just jokes - they say something profound about life. Consequently, people who don't like Rick & Morty are ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for example, the humor in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub", which itself is a veiled reference to the epic Russians "Fathers and Sons" by Turgenev. I'm smiling now just imagining one of those skilled simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds on their television screens. What fools .. I feel sorry for them. 😂

Toxicity Index: 9/10

Star Wars: The Prime Ministers of Toxic Fandom. In Greece there aren't that many because sci-fi in general has never had much success, so the toxicity rates are lower than the American average. But then again, if you get into trouble with them, you won't escape easily. Bonus toxicity points for the increased chance of hearing about """feminazi""".

Toxicity Index: 9/10

Lord of the Rings: One of the most toxic fandoms in Greece. It may seem like a no-brainer, but if you dare to say something negative "for the scum" then you will regret the time and the moment you pressed the first key on the keyboard..

Toxicity Index: 9.5/10

I think Game of thrones was that series that just had people on edge, it's probably done and dusted and there are people who can't believe they were so obsessed about being the first to see the episodes when they newly came out.
