2025 Movie #8 | Sometimes I Think About Dying (2023)
I never heard of this movie until a couple of days ago where I saw it in a top 10 movies of 2024 list by a Youtuber who had Perfect Days at #1 similar to me and this one in 2nd place. So I figured that it might be one that I enjoy as the main topic in this movie is introvertism which I very much can relate to. It only gets a 6.5 on imdb which to me indicated that this is one of those movies that is for a specific audience only. I expected to like it with a small hope that it would be really something I like.
Sometimes I Think About Dying (7.3/10)
Spoiler-Free Movie Plot:
"Fran, who likes to think about dying, makes the new guy at work laugh, which leads to dating and more. Now the only thing standing in their way is Fran herself."
The main actress in this movie is Daisy Ridley known from the new Star Wars movies and she did an excellent job with her introvert character .
So while many would see this movie as rather boring with no plot, I could appreciate many aspects of it while it was by no means perfect. To start, I really liked the location and vibe of the town and office it was filmed in. This turns out to be in Astoria which is some seaside village in Oregon.
So the movie mainly is about a girl who is very introverted and has a super boring life working in an office which pretty much is doing a job she enjoys while not relating to anyone there until a new man comes to work there who she goes out with a couple times.
There were things in the movie I really could relate to as an introvert which was mainly when she was observing her co-workers yapping about total nonsense which she could not relate to whatsover. At the same time here life aside from working in the office was portraited as just too extreme boring as if she didn't do anything else and went just home to sleep after work. The romance story was ok but the movie 70% into it left me a bit empty-handed where I was waiting for the point where something needed to come that binded it all togheter and made it way better. At one point I felt like ok now it's there but they never really continued on it.

So overall I enjoyed the movie while at the same time it's quite forgettable. I like the main idea to make a movie about introvertism. However, I think that it wasn't done as good as it could be and the title of Sometimes I thing about Dying mainly manifested in some scenes where Fran day-dreamed about dying which more felt like a gimmick that didn't really add much to the movie.
This is a movie for a very niche audience in perticular very introverted girls who might most relate to it. I liked it and am glad that I watched it but wasn't blown away giving it a good 7.3/10

The idea of the movie is pretty interesting, intoreverts, suicide, loneliness, romance, but it seems they did not know to take advantage aboute the topics.
Something like that yes, the movie certainly had potential to be a lot better even though I still enjoye it.
