🎬 2025 Movie #18 | Hit Man (2023)

This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews.

I have been wanting to watch some movies but it always got too late with most movies these days lasting close to 2 hours instead of a more convenient 90 Minutes. Many of the ones on my short term watchlist I also want to be fully awake for as I don't want to waste them by being too tired. So tonight I did end up watching the 2023 Netflix movie Hit Man which was recommended to my by a friend who generally has a similar taste. I didn't know much about it aside from that it's more something of a not too serious popular mainstream movie with a plot that I expected to be quite good without having seen any trailers. This was a great way going into it even though I was a bit tired already and put it on pauze after 30 minutes to do a small nap to afterward be fresh again to continue watching.

Hit Man (7.3/10)

Apparently the core idea of the main character in this movie is based on a real person named Gary Johnson, who was a real guy who worked as a fake contract killer for the police. All the other events in the movie were made up however. It's a movie by Richard Linklater who is the same director of School of Rock which I liked back in the day, Dazed And Confused which actually aslo is on my watchlist and was a candidate to watch tonight. And also the trilogy Before Sunrise / Before Sunset / Before Midnight which are movies I haven't watched yet but I'm kind of saving them with extremely high expectations.

Spoiler-Free Movie Plot:

"A professor moonlighting as a hit man of sorts for his city police department, descends into dangerous, dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to a woman who enlists his services."

I actually enjoyed this movie as something that was fun and not too serious. The production was nice, the acting was quite good and the entire story and plot just continued to be interesting with some minor twists and turns of which none really came as a big shock.

So this was mainly a movie I just has a really fun time with which kept me interested the entire time even though it certainly was not perfect and there I would say are many logical inconsistencies. However, this is the type of movie that perfectly gets away with that.

The trailer I would say contains some spoilers that might take away some fun for those who plan to watch it.

I happily give it a solid 7.3/10 as I tend to gravitate a lot toward how much enjoyment I get with movies like this. It was good and fun but also not great or really something I will keep thinking about even days or weeks from now.
