[ESP-ENG] Film Review: The Killing of a Sacred Deer - One mistake can change your life forever.
Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace unos días encontré una película de A24 llamada The Killing of a Sacred Deer (El sacrificio del ciervo sagrado) protagonizada por Colin Farrell y Barry Keoghan, me llamó la atención la portada y el nombre de la película y me lleve una gran impresión, me gustó bastante porque es diferente a lo que suelo ver esta llena de momentos de drama, suspenso y realmente es una historia que encontre muy original y que a pesar de comenzar un poco lenta luego se va poniendo emocionante. Este post no contendrá spoilers o al menos intentaré no revelar lo que sucede en esta historia.
Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are well today. A few days ago I found an A24 movie called The Killing of a Sacred Deer starring Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan, the cover and the name of the movie caught my attention and I got a great impression, I liked it a lot because it is different from what I usually see, it is full of moments of drama, suspense and it is really a story that I found very original and despite starting a little slow then it gets exciting. This post will not contain spoilers or at least I will try not to reveal what happens in this story.
La trama habla de la vida de Steven Murphy un médico cardiólogo que tiene una buena reputación en su carrera y que además tiene una familia perfecta junto a su esposa (Nicole Kidman) y sus dos hijos. Todo parece ir bastante bien en su vida pero hay cosas del pasado que inevitablemente no puede deshacer tan fácilmente producto de sus propios errores, cómo tener que ver a un joven llamado Martin casi a diario en el hospital o en cualquier otro lugar que este desee. Ambos tienen algo que los relaciona y que hace que no puedan evitar encontrarse sin que nadie se entere de esta situación, Martin parece ser un joven tranquilo y que está interesado en aprender sobre la medicina y en cómo es la vida de Steven cómo médico y como ser humano, pero las cosas se van poniendo difíciles cuando Martin insiste en seguir viendo a Steven en cualquier momento y además entrometerse en su vida personal.
The plot tells of the life of Steven Murphy, a cardiologist doctor who has a good reputation in his career and who also has a perfect family with his wife (Nicole Kidman) and their two children. Everything seems to be going pretty well in his life but there are things from the past that he inevitably can't undo so easily due to his own mistakes, like having to see a young man named Martin almost every day in the hospital or anywhere else he wants to. Martin seems to be a quiet young man who is interested in learning about medicine and how Steven's life is as a doctor and as a human being, but things get difficult when Martin insists on continuing to see Steven at any time and also meddling in his personal life.
Esta película producida por A24 y dirigida por Yorgos Lanthimos cuenta la historia de cómo la vida de Steven siendo médico por un error en una operación con uno de sus pacientes hace que su vida cambie para siempre ya que por ingerir un poco de alcohol antes de la operación termina haciendo mala praxis y este paciente pierde la vida. La vida de Steven nunca más vuelve a ser la misma y cuando Steven empieza a tener contacto con Martin, siente que tiene el deber de ayudar a este pobre joven que además de haber pasado por un momento traumático en su vida, debe lidiar con problemas mentales que lo hacen actuar de una manera un poco diferente.
This film produced by A24 and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos tells the story of how Steven's life as a doctor, due to a mistake in an operation with one of his patients, changes his life forever because he ingests a little alcohol before the operation and ends up doing malpractice and this patient loses his life. Steven's life is never the same again and when Steven begins to have contact with Martin, he feels he has a duty to help this poor young man who, besides having gone through a traumatic moment in his life, must deal with mental problems that make him act a little differently.

Having made that mistake turns Steven and his family's life into a nightmare that does not seem to have an end and Martin has a lot to do in this situation and in the search for a kind of revenge or settling of scores, even though Steven has always tried to make Martin understand that the things that happened in the past were a mistake and that he really regrets what happened for Martin a forgiveness is not enough to fill the emptiness and anger he feels towards him so he makes devastating decisions towards Steven's family that put you in tension during the whole movie especially the last hour which is where everything starts to make sense.
La actuación de Barry Keoghan es impresionante y me hizo recordar un poco a su papel en Saltburn dónde interpreta a un joven con problemas psicológicos, en esta película también tiene problemas sobre todo para adaptarse y tiene un comportamiento un tanto retraído, además vive con su madre (Alice Silverstone) una mujer que también demuestra tener problemas. En la película Barry Keoghan se muestra como un personaje que paso por un evento traumático para un joven de dieciséis años que a penas comienza a vivir y que termina convirtiéndose en una especie de juez, el cree que tiene que tomar acción ante lo que sucedió con el doctor Steven y que debe hacerlo sufrir tanto cómo el sufrió por el daño que el doctor causó en su vida.
Barry Keoghan's performance is impressive and reminded me a little of his role in Saltburn where he plays a young man with psychological problems, in this film he also has problems especially to adapt and has a somewhat withdrawn behavior, he also lives with his mother (Alice Silverstone) a woman who also has problems. In the film Barry Keoghan is shown as a character that went through a traumatic event for a young man of sixteen years that just begins to live and ends up becoming a kind of judge, he believes he has to take action against what happened with Dr. Steven and must make him suffer as much as he suffered for the damage that the doctor caused in his life.
La historia es oscura, tiene poco sonido excepto al final de la película dónde la banda sonora cobra vida para aumentar la presión del momento dramático que se vive mientras se desenredan todos los hilos del por qué Martin tiene tanto odio hacia Steven, es una película que tiene muchos significados para algunas personas puede ser difícil de entender el mensaje que se trata de mostrar en la película, de hecho tuve que verla una segunda vez para tratar de entenderla y buscar también información de esta por internet. Se tocan temas cómo el sufrimiento por la perdida de un ser querido, el deseo de poder tomar la justicia por tus propias manos, los extraños eventos que parecen no tener explicación científica y que ponen a pensar en si la película quiere mostrar algo místico o algo mucho más oscuro cómo el uso de la magia negra con la intención de dañar a seres humanos.
The story is dark, has little sound except at the end of the film where the soundtrack comes to life to increase the pressure of the dramatic moment that is lived while all the threads of why Martin has so much hatred towards Steven are unraveled, it is a film that has many meanings for some people may be difficult to understand the message that is trying to show in the film, in fact I had to see it a second time to try to understand it and also look for information about it on the internet. It touches on topics such as the suffering for the loss of a loved one, the desire to take justice into your own hands, the strange events that seem to have no scientific explanation and that make you think about whether the film wants to show something mystical or something much darker like the use of black magic with the intention of harming human beings.
Es una película que tuvo una buena receptividad y que gustó mucho, pienso que puede ser por la originalidad de la historia y también el increíble reparto de la película, además de que es bastante devastadora porque el protagonista que en este caso es el doctor Steven debe tomar una de las decisiones más difíciles de su vida y terminar con la vida de uno de los seres que más ama en la vida: su esposa o alguno de sus dos hijos para acabar con el sufrimiento que está padeciendo su familia. Es increíble que pueden ocurrir estás situaciones dónde cometes un error que te puede costar casi que hasta la vida y que marca para siempre un antes y un después, ocurre mucho más de lo que podamos imaginar y es algo que hace pensar en que el ser humano es tan frágil y a la vez puede convertirse en la peor versión de si mismo debido a su propio dolor y sufrimiento.
It is a film that was well received and liked a lot, I think it may be because of the originality of the story and also the incredible cast of the film, plus it is quite devastating because the protagonist in this case is Dr. Steven must make one of the most difficult decisions of his life and end the life of one of the people he loves most in life: his wife or one of his two children to end the suffering that his family is going through. It is incredible that these situations can occur where you make a mistake that can cost you almost your life and that marks forever a before and after, it happens much more than we can imagine and it is something that makes you think that the human being is so fragile and at the same time can become the worst version of himself because of his own pain and suffering.
