Christmas Contest: Write About ANY Christmas Themed Movie or Series

Hello! It is that festive time of year again. Where has the year gone?! Well, let's not dwell on the inevitable and rapid passing of time, and let's get cozy by the fireplace. Ready to read on? I doubt it. Here's what you should do first: get yourself a mug of hot chocolate. Dim the lights. Throw on your favourite festive jumper for that extra bit of warmth and comfort.

This year in the Movies & TV Shows community, we're going to keep things real simple. While there will be some additional rules that you will find below, the theme is to write about any Christmas film or television series. Now, some films even decades later continue to have heated debates regarding their eligibility as Christmas films, but don't worry, as long as the film takes place around Christmas or features Christmas themes, it's fine!

Going more into the specifics of the contest here are the rules. Be sure to read them and follow them, as they may void your post(s) from entering the contest! Some of these rules may seem a bit self-explanatory, but we'll mention them anyway, starting with some of the most obvious ones:

  • No plagiarism.
  • No AI images or text.
  • Your post MUST contain at least 500 words in ONE language. Bilingual posts as always are accepted.
  • Video submissions via 3speak are accepted if you'd prefer video over text.
  • List posts on multiple movies or series are accepted.
  • You MUST use the #xmas2023 tag in your post.
  • Christmas special episodes or films are accepted.
  • Christmas themed music video reviews are accepted.
  • No cross-posting.
  • You MUST post the link to your post(s) in the comments of this contest announcement.
  • YOU MUST submit your post(s) by January 12, 2024.

If you break any of these rules, not only does it void your contribution in the contest, depending on the severity of the rules broken, you may receive downvotes to remove any potential rewards gained and be muted in the community.

You are allowed to post numerous entries in this contest during its runtime. We use a points-based calculating system based on numerous criteria when voting the winners per post; these points do not stack based on multiple posts. For more information on that criteria, read here:

Community engagement

  1. Comments on other posts.
  2. Upvotes on other posts.
  3. Post presentation and quality.
  4. Use of personal screenshots and imagery in the post(s) or videos.

For more information on how to structure and write a post, see the pinned posts in the community. There will be a guide in case you are uncertain, though you can always drop into the Discord or contact the mods here in the community for help!

It is worth noting that even if you feel you are not a strong writer, you can still contribute. Posts that we feel have some quality to them under our regular curation responsibilities will still be nominated for OCD curation each day. Video submissions via 3speak are accepted.

Second place: 10 HBD.
Third place: 5 HBD.

It had been a while since the last time I had seen a writing contest around Hive (such as the three or so HGC contests from two years ago and a Halloween-themed contest in Hive Pets one year ago); looking forward to see what I can bring to this.

It is always fun when the communities do events like this and people can have a specific topic to put their thinking hat and write about :)

We used to do them a lot more often. Every other month or so, and around every holiday. I had a pretty rough year though and it meant we took a big break from them. I've wanted to get them going again for the longest time, so it's really nice to finally be able to.

And when it comes to the rules, I always try to ensure it's as open as it can be. So that anyone can contribute in any way. Whether they prefer videos or like writing. Or even if their interests span into the other side of filmmaking. I'd even accept Christmas related documentary reviews!

It's always fun seeing what people come up with, reading posts from new and familiar faces, and spreading some of that fun holiday atmosphere. One of the things I really love is seeing the engagement from the community. People making new friends and finding new followers to talk film and TV with.

I feel like this Christmas is like last year, there are many struggles to be faced but at the end of the year it seems like it will return to how it was before.
A time that is hard to forget, maybe I will shout about this contest, rather than pondering at home.

oh, this is quite an interesting challenge... i have already a movie in mind, but there is a new movie that I wanted to watch. In fact, I am planning to make a list of my favorite Christmas movies. Maybe I'd make a separate list of Christmas themed movies and make that my entry here

I posted the other day on the moviesonhive Twitter account that it may take a few weeks, with @macchiata having some personal things to deal with, and the schedules of all the mods which take part in the voting process, it's quite a lot of work for each of us. But once it's ready there will be an announcement here. :)
