[ESP/ENG] Poor Things (2023) - Review: “Una película totalmente fuera de lo común”
Hola hive, hoy les vengo a hablar de una película que ha hecho bastante ruido estos últimos días, así que decidí ir al cine a verla y sacar mis propias conclusiones, destacando los puntos fuertes y no tan fuertes de la misma, así que por esta razón es que hoy les quiero hablar de Poor Things
Poor Things es una película de comedia oscura, ciencia ficción y fantasía lanzada en el 2023, dirigida por Yorgos Lanthimos y protagonizada por Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael y Christopher Abbott. Esta película nos muestra a Bella Baxter, una joven que posee un cerebro infantil debido a un extraño experimento, sin embargo podremos ver cómo va creciendo aceleradamente su forma de pensar y como esta discrepancia entre su cuerpo y su mente la lleva a tener diferentes problemas, de los cuales sólo ella podrá salir. poor things está basada en una novela homónima escrita por Alasdair Gray la cual fue publicada en 1992. Ya habiendo dado un poco de contexto ahora si comencemos!
Primero siempre me gusta empezar hablando de lo que más me encanto de la película y sin duda es toda la estética y la dirección en si, me parece que logra representar un mundo de fantasía bastante original, además de que esta película tiene planos preciosos y movimientos de cámara que suman mucho en ciertas escenas, desde los primeros minutos se nota lo diferenciadora que es la dirección y eso para mi es un plus automático.
Otro aspecto destacable es la actuación de la gran Emma stone, y es que de por si el cast de la película es muy bueno y todos hacen un excelente trabajo, pero la que más destaca es Emma stone, no solo por lo bien que lo hace, sino aparte por la complejidad y capas que tiene el personaje de Bella Baxter, ya que este personaje pasa por etapa de niñes, adolescente y adultez en una misma película, además de que se deben enfatizar los pequeños detalles para nosotros como espectadores lograr ubicar en que etapa del desarrollo de la protagonista estamos. Así que sin duda el darle vida a este complejo personaje tiene su mérito.
En cuanto a la historia en si me cuesta verla como una historia lineal que va desde un punto A y un punto B, porque si lo vemos así es súper sencilla, en realidad lo que hace destacable a toda esta película es ir acompañando al personaje de Bella y ver como va cambiando su forma de pensar a medida de sus vivencias y experiencias, es ahí la verdadera Magia de la película.
El soundtrack de la película es bastante inquietante y me encanta, suma mucho a esa experiencia de “incomodidad” que a veces la película logra transmitir y me fascina, sinceramente siento que logran aprovechar el aspecto auditivo para darle más texturas a las escenas, sin duda la experiencia fuese totalmente diferente sin ese soundtrack tan característico, así Que para mi es otro punto positivo.
No les voy a mentir, estoy muy claro de que no es una película muy digerible, en momentos puede ser lenta y tiene una duración de 2 horas 20 minutos, por lo que entiendo porque hay personas que se pueden aburrir, y siento que es entendible, porque también en momentos la Magia de muchas escenas es lo subjetivas que pueden llegar a ser y como tú las interpretas, sin embargo cuando le prestas atención a los detalles como a la dirección y los diálogos, encontramos el verdadero valor de esta película, además de que el mensaje me parece bastante valioso ya que cada quien le puede dar su propia interpretación y adaptarlo para si mismo.
Sinceramente yo fui al cine con las expectativas muy altas y no me decepciono, también estaba súper claro de la película que iba a ver, así que ya iba de cierta forma preparado, pero siento que poor things es una película que vale la pena ver, que tiene muchas cosas destacables y si te gustan este tipo de películas un poco más “experimentales” segurisimo que la vas a disfrutar.
En conclusión una excelente película pero que sin duda no es para todo el público, porque como dije es una película que en momentos puede ser lenta y densa, pero que todo esto es compensado con muchos otros buenos aspectos que hacen que la experiencia total sea bastante buena, así que por mi parte… totalmente recomendada!

This film shows us Bella Baxter, a young woman who has a child brain due to a strange experiment, however we will see how her way of thinking is growing rapidly and how this discrepancy between her body and her mind leads her to have different problems, from which only she can get out. poor things is based on a novel of the same name written by Alasdair Gray which was published in 1992. Having given a bit of context, let's get started!
First I always like to start talking about what I love most about the film and without a doubt is the aesthetics and the direction itself, I think it manages to represent a fantasy world quite original, besides this film has beautiful shots and camera movements that add a lot in certain scenes, from the first minutes you can see how differentiating the direction is and that for me is an automatic plus.
Another remarkable aspect is the performance of the great Emma stone, and is that in itself the cast of the film is very good and all do an excellent job, but the one that stands out is Emma stone, not only for how well she does, but also for the complexity and layers that has the character of Bella Baxter, as this character goes through childhood, adolescence and adulthood in the same film, plus the small details should be emphasized for us as viewers to locate in what stage of development of the protagonist we are. So there is no doubt that bringing this complex character to life has its merit.
As for the story itself I find it hard to see it as a linear story that goes from point A and point B, because if we see it that way it is super simple, in fact what makes this film remarkable is to accompany the character of Bella and see how she changes her way of thinking as her experiences and experiences, that is the real magic of the film.
The soundtrack of the film is quite disturbing and I love it, it adds a lot to that experience of "discomfort" that sometimes the film manages to convey and fascinates me, I sincerely feel that they manage to take advantage of the auditory aspect to give more textures to the scenes, no doubt the experience would be totally different without that soundtrack so characteristic, so for me it is another positive point.
I'm not going to lie, I am very clear that it is not a very digestible movie, at times it can be slow and has a duration of 2 hours 20 minutes, so I understand why some people can get bored, and I feel it is understandable, because also at times the magic of many scenes is how subjective they can be and how you interpret them, However, when you pay attention to details such as direction and dialogues, we find the true value of this film, besides the message seems to me quite valuable because everyone can give their own interpretation and adapt it for themselves.
Honestly I went to the movies with very high expectations and I was not disappointed, I was also very clear about the movie I was going to see, so I was somewhat prepared, but I feel that poor things is a movie worth seeing, it has many remarkable things and if you like this kind of movies a little more "experimental" sure you will enjoy it.
In conclusion an excellent film but certainly not for all audiences, because as I said it is a film that at times can be slow and dense, but all this is offset by many other good aspects that make the overall experience is quite good, so for my part ... totally recommended!
