With only four episodes watched I've been encouraged to recommend this series. too hasty? without seeing the remaining episodes or the finale? No need. Each episode moves the story forward, each installment is so different and fascinating that I share the opinion of most professional reviewers who have had the opportunity to watch it almost in its entirety. Without hesitation, I also affirm that it is one of the Spanish series of the year and I predict that it will sweep a lot of awards and recognitions.
You can like the creators of this production or you can even be part of the group of the public that hates them, but it would be very mean of the latter sector not to recognize that Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo have an extraordinary talent. They are proving it with this production.
With La Mesias, Los Javis, as they were known in their other productions, will set the bar very high. Obviously there will be no shortage of voices against, there will be people who do not connect with the story, but there will also be haters of these young people who will only speak ill of what they do, because it is their raison d'être. But in a society where whoever is successful seems to be the target of strong criticism. This is what many people from the world of film and television in Spain have said. Is it just something that happens there or does it happen elsewhere?
The art of playing with emotions is done very well by these guys. At a press conference where the series was presented, they both said that things have to be done well, taking care of the details, that this is what this generation working in the industry should focus on. And they and their team have done it. Spanish fiction has a good future, not only because of them, but also because of another generation of filmmakers whose work is being accepted by both the public and the critics.
Con sólo cuatro episodios vistos me he animado a recomendar esta serie. ¿demasiado precipitado? ¿sin ver los episodios restantes o el final? No hace falta. Cada episodio hace avanzar la historia, cada entrega es tan diferente y fascinante que comparto la opinión de la mayoría de los críticos profesionales que han tenido la oportunidad de verla casi entera. Sin dudarlo, también afirmo que es una de las series españolas del año y preveo que arrasará con un montón de premios y reconocimientos.
Te pueden gustar los creadores de esta producción o incluso puedes formar parte del grupo del público que los odia, pero sería muy mezquino por parte de este último sector no reconocer que Javier Ambrossi y Javier Calvo tienen un talento extraordinario. Lo están demostrando con esta producción.
Con La Mesias, Los Javis, como se les conocía en sus otras producciones, pondrán el listón muy alto. Obviamente no faltarán voces en contra, habrá gente que no conecte con la historia, pero también habrá haters de estos jóvenes que sólo hablarán mal de lo que hacen, porque es su razón de ser. Pero en una sociedad donde quien tiene éxito parece ser el blanco de fuertes críticas. Esto es lo que han dicho muchas personas del mundo del cine y la televisión en España. ¿Es sólo algo que ocurre allí o sucede en otros lugares?
El arte de jugar con las emociones lo hacen muy bien estos chicos. En una rueda de prensa en la que se presentó la serie, ambos dijeron que las cosas hay que hacerlas bien, cuidando los detalles, que en eso debe centrarse esta generación que trabaja en la industria. Y ellos y su equipo lo han hecho. La ficción española tiene un buen futuro, no sólo por ellos, sino también por otra generación de cineastas cuyo trabajo está siendo aceptado tanto por el público como por la crítica.

What is Messiah about? When you watch the first two episodes, you may find it difficult to classify the genre. Be captivated by its images, by its story, which takes shape as it progresses until the third episode, a work of art, takes you straight to the essence of the series.
As its creators have said in several interviews, the series is about childhood. The before and after. The escape, after breaking the chains that keep you in the shadows. The traumas you will carry all your life from a stormy relationship of love, abuse, dependency and fanaticism. I think they even said once that it was his most LGBTQ production, because of the whole metaphor about transformation and redemption on the tortuous path of finding yourself.
It's a story about love. Especially the love between mother and children. We can question the behavior of Monserrat's character. A mother who perhaps did many things wrong. Taking many situations to unimaginable limits, at first glance she may seem selfish, toxic and a bad mother, but in the middle of all that there is an immense love for her children. How is it possible? Her actions will be repulsive, shocking. We will judge her for it, but I invite you to see a little more inside her and her evolution, the motives that push her to it.
People can become blinded and believe they are doing good, when in fact they have fallen into a trap of destiny. For those of us who have seen people close to us self-destruct in their own madness, we will see the similarities with real cases. People obsessed with something that everyone can tell them is wrong, that this is not the way, but they will continue to do it despite the signs.
This is where another central theme of the story lies. Insanity and religious fanaticism. Everything to the extreme is harmful and the religious issue does not escape this, especially in a country with a centuries-old Catholic tradition that has been molding them at various stages of its history, often with the heavy hand of those who wielded power. The dangers of fanaticism and how lives are destroyed, traumas are created and family nuclei are broken in the name of something that in theory should be good.
¿De qué trata La Mesías? Cuando vea los dos primeros episodios, quizá le resulte difícil clasificar el género. Déjese cautivar por sus imágenes, por su historia, que va tomando forma a medida que avanza hasta que el tercer episodio, una obra de arte, le lleva directamente a la esencia de la serie.
Como han dicho sus creadores en varias entrevistas, la serie trata sobre la infancia. El antes y el después. La huida, tras romper las cadenas que te mantienen en la sombra. Los traumas que arrastrarás toda tu vida de una relación tormentosa de amor, abuso, dependencia y fanatismo. Creo que incluso dijeron una vez que era su producción más LGBTQ, por toda la metáfora sobre la transformación y la redención en el tortuoso camino de encontrarse a uno mismo.
Es una historia sobre el amor. Especialmente el amor entre madre e hijos. Podemos cuestionar el comportamiento del personaje de Monserrat. Una madre que quizás hizo muchas cosas mal. Llevando muchas situaciones a límites inimaginables, a primera vista puede parecer egoísta, tóxica y una mala madre, pero en medio de todo eso hay un inmenso amor por sus hijos. ¿Cómo es posible? Sus actos serán repulsivos, chocantes. La juzgaremos por ello, pero os invito a ver un poco más dentro de ella y su evolución, los motivos que la empujan a ello.
Las personas pueden cegarse y creer que están haciendo el bien, cuando en realidad han caído en una trampa del destino. Para los que hemos visto a personas cercanas autodestruirse en su propia locura, veremos las similitudes con casos reales. Personas obsesionadas con algo que todo el mundo puede decirles que está mal, que ese no es el camino, pero que seguirán haciéndolo a pesar de las señales.
Aquí es donde radica otro tema central de la historia. La locura y el fanatismo religioso. Todo al extremo es dañino y el tema religioso no escapa a ello, sobre todo en un país con una tradición católica de siglos que los ha ido moldeando en diversas etapas de su historia, muchas veces con la mano dura de quienes ejercían el poder. Los peligros del fanatismo y cómo se destruyen vidas, se crean traumas y se rompen núcleos familiares en nombre de algo que en teoría debería ser bueno.
Drama, Thriller, Horror, Musical, Coming to Age. A salad of genres perfectly com-paginated, where the creators drink from multiple cinematographic references. Some have unfairly criticized them for this. Love, childhood, trauma, religion, madness, supernatural, extraterrestrials. They have created an original story, taking as a reference multiple sources of inspiration, personal experiences, research of places, similar events and a long etcetera.
Although the creators have not stated it in any interview, it is clear that the children's Christian music group in the story is inspired by Flos Mariae, a now disbanded group formed by sisters who became famous after virilizing their videos on youtube in 2014. They had quite a repercussion in Spain, where they were the subject of discussion and memes on social networks. Some of the members said they would take legal action against the series, but I do not think that will happen, and it is not a biopic or anything like that, the story is fiction.
Drama, Thriller, Terror, Musical, Coming to Age. Una ensalada de géneros perfectamente com-paginada, donde los creadores beben de múltiples referencias cinematográficas. Algunos les han criticado por ello injustamente. Amor, infancia, traumas, religión, locura, sobrenatural, extraterrestres. Han creado una historia original, tomando como referencia múltiples fuentes de inspiración, vivencias personales, investigación de lugares, sucesos similares y un largo etcétera.
Aunque los creadores no lo han declarado en ninguna entrevista, está claro que el grupo de música cristiana infantil de la historia está inspirado en Flos Mariae, un grupo ya disuelto, formado por hermanas que se hicieron famosas tras virilizar sus vídeos en youtube en 2014. Tuvieron bastante repercusión en España, donde fueron objeto de discusión y memes en las redes sociales. Algunas de las integrantes dijeron que emprenderían acciones legales contra la serie, pero no creo que eso ocurra, y no es un biopic ni nada por el estilo, la historia es ficción.

I can't end this recommendation without talking about the cast. I love them. From the actresses with more experience to the group of children and teenagers who achieve complicity with the camera to make us feel emotions. They are all great.
The actress Ana Rujas emerges as a volcano. Rebellious, sexy and strong. She seduces us and at the same time we will feel rejection towards her actions. A force of nature, as the creators have said, they were looking for a mix of Penelope Cruz in Jamón, Jamón with touches of Britanny Murphy and they have nailed it. She plays the young Monserrat and it will be hard not to fall in love with her. The same character, but in a more adult stage, is played by the great Lola Dueñas, transmitting dread, with a character that will cause us repulsion for her madness, fanaticism and mistreatment. We have yet to see the older character, played by Carmen Machi.
Albert Pla, Spanish singer-songwriter is receiving much praise and no wonder. His character, Pep, is terrifying. With few words, a restrained performance, relying mostly on gestures, movements and looks. There is nothing that instills more dread in me than characters that seem very real. As one of the characters says in the first episodes, Monserrat has known many men, good and bad, but the worst was God. And it is through a religious obsessive like Pep, that she will establish a relationship that will mark the destiny of all the characters.
Roger Casamayor and Macarena García play Enric and Irene in the adult stage. The latter is a well-known actress in Spain and is Javier Ambrossi's sister. The series is an opportunity for them to work together and she is doing a fabulous job, because her character, as well as Enric, are the most affected, the ones who must deal daily with the strong traumas of the past that have returned for one last confrontation.
Finally, the entire cast of children and teenagers, many of whom are just starting out in the world of acting and who have conveyed their naturalness. Working with children is not easy and you can tell that they have been given the freedom to be themselves and to be able to capture that authenticity in many scenes. I don't know all the names, but the ones that have stood out are Irene Balmes, who plays Irene as a teenager, and Biel Rossell as Enric as a teenager. I should point out that the fourth episode has not yet featured another group of young actresses and neither has the Spanish singer Amaia, who plays Cecilia as a teenager.
The Messiah. Childhood, maternal relationship, religious fanaticism, toxic love, aliens and forgiveness. A story that grabs you and devours you.

No puedo terminar esta recomendación sin hablar del reparto. Me encantan. Desde las actrices con más experiencia hasta el grupo de niños y adolescentes que logran complicidad con la cámara para hacernos sentir emociones. Todos son geniales.
La actriz Ana Rujas emerge como un volcán. Rebelde, sexy y fuerte. Nos seduce y a la vez sentiremos rechazo hacia sus acciones. Una fuerza de la naturaleza, como han dicho los creadores, buscaban una mezcla de Penélope Cruz en Jamón, Jamón con toques de Britanny Murphy y lo han clavado. Interpreta a la joven Monserrat y será difícil no enamorarse de ella. El mismo personaje, pero en una etapa más adulta, lo interpreta la gran Lola Dueñas, transmitiendo pavor, con un carácter que nos causará repulsión por su locura, fanatismo y maltrato. Nos queda por ver al personaje mayor, interpretado por Carmen Machi.

Con pocas palabras, una actuación contenida, apoyándose sobre todo en gestos, movimientos y miradas. No hay nada que me infunda más pavor que unos personajes que parecen muy reales. Como dice uno de los personajes en los primeros episodios, Monserrat ha conocido a muchos hombres, buenos y malos, pero el peor fue Dios. Y es a través de un obseso de la religión como Pep, que ella establecerá una relación que marcará el destino de todos los personajes.
Roger Casamayor y Macarena García interpretan a Enric e Irene en la etapa adulta. Esta última es una actriz muy conocida en España y es hermana de Javier Ambrossi. La serie es una oportunidad para que trabajen juntos y ella está haciendo un trabajo fabuloso, porque su personaje, al igual que Enric, son los más afectados, los que deben lidiar a diario con los fuertes traumas del pasado que han vuelto para un último enfrentamiento.
Por último, todo el elenco de niños y adolescentes, muchos de los cuales están empezando en el mundo de la interpretación y que han transmitido su naturalidad. Trabajar con niños no es fácil y se nota que se les ha dado libertad para ser ellos mismos y poder plasmar esa autenticidad en muchas escenas. No conozco todos los nombres, pero los que han destacado son Irene Balmes, que interpreta a Irene de adolescente, y Biel Rossell como Enric de adolescente. Debo señalar que en el cuarto episodio aun no ha aparecido otro grupo de actrices jóvenes y tampoco la cantante española Amaia, que interpreta a Cecilia en su etapa juvenil.
La Mesías. Infancia, relación maternal, fanatismo religioso, amor tóxico, extraterrestres y perdón. Una historia que te atrapa y devora.

Noto Monserrat es un personaje muy humano con muchos errores pero como todo en la vida, tiene su lado positivo que equilibra la balanza. UUUUff y veo que el conflicto va por tema religioso, muchacho como detesto porque eso es lo peor, algo que debería unir termina fracturando. Eso de la Obsesión lo detecto y yo muchas veces lo nombro como ahogarnos en un vaso de agua, cuando voy detectando ese tipo de cosas lo que hago es dejarlas morir pero tengo que sentarme a reflexionar a ver si es bien o mal porque cuesta verlo, eso que nombras ahí no es fácil porque la emoción nos desborda cuando queremos algo
ajajajaja si llegue a ver a las Flos Mariae, no recordaba el nombre pero detecte a kilometros de distancia te referías a esas que vi por lo del tema religioso, recuerdo mi sensación al verlas y es que son lindas, cada mujer es exótica entonces disfruto ese tipo de mujer también PERO no puedo evitar preguntarme como será coger con ese tipo de mujer jajaja harán seo oral.... no se.... harán algo.... se moverán, bueno dejo mi pensamiento allí 😅 y pienso es malo porque se cohíben de algo es natural como el sexo por decir un ejemplo

Serie poderosa, muy buena, de lo mejor que he visto últimamente. Van solo cuatro episodios y se va superando uno tras otro.
Monserrat en su etapa joven te va a enamorar muchachón, es el tipo de mujer irresistible, de las que te baja la tensión pero te sube todo lo demás. 😆
El tema religioso es muy marcado en la historia. Tema siempre polémico y donde mucha gente se ciega.
Todos son humanos y sienten, tienen necesidades, por mucho que intenten suprimirlas, el instinto predomina. Además, las que parecen que no quiebran un plato, destruyen la vajilla completa. 😆

Muy buenas JC. He visto alguna que otra de estas series y películas sobre fanatismo religioso y es increíble como dominan de esa manera la mente de la gente. Cuando la mente se abre a una nueva idea ya no vuelve a ser la misma... lo que quiero decir es que cuando uno despierta y se da cuenta de tanta mentira... nada vuelve a ser igual.
Buscan el control de todo. Las madres hacen lo que creen mejor para sus hijos según lo aprendido.
Las actuaciones parecen ser muy buenas, te gusta el cine español eh? Se nota bastante.
