(ESP-ENG) The Killer - Revenge as motivation!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
David Fincher is a very particular and above all good director, he is very good at what he does. He is a guy who gives his films a very unique cinematography with the visuals being predominant, something that blows my mind as a photographer, besides having the ability to tell certain stories that tend to be very intricate and sinister. When I heard about this film I knew I had to see it because I sensed it was going to be a good movie and indeed it was, I do not hide and from the very first paragraph I tell you that it is a very worthwhile production. If you don't know Fincher, he made films like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Fight Club, The Case of Benjamin Button, among a few others.
The Killer, starring a great Michael Fassbender, is a film I would say a psychological thriller which has a little bit of everything. It has tension, a single fight scene but the truth for me is more than enough given the context of the film and the character but above all it is a film where we are shown, in a very clever way, the pure and hard mentality of a murderer and that these at the end of the day are not simple killing machines. With this film something happens and it is that you either hate it or you end up liking it a lot, but there are no medium dyes, it all depends on the eyes with which you see it. So, let's talk about the story of this mythical killer brought to the big screen.
The assassin (Michael Fassbender) is a guy who has no name, he is only known in the world for how effective and ruthless he is when it comes to doing a job. He is meticulous, calm and in theory he has everything studied, it is impossible for him to miss any details in what he does. One fine day, doing an assignment, he suddenly begins to have a kind of epiphany where morality apparently begins to flourish in him, which in the end all it does is fill him with doubts. Doubts that little by little make him mentally weaker and that unexpectedly makes that order that he prepared so much, ends up failing by a few centimeters and thousands of details more.
Faced with this failure, he has no choice but to flee, flee as far away as possible until the hurricane that was going to form passes a little. The thing is that if you run away from your problems sooner or later they will catch up with you and you will have to face them and this is when the plot begins to move. Every action has consequences and that unexpected mistake would bring several of those consequences to his immediate life, so money is no longer his motivation but rather revenge, the desire to find all those who were behind something that ended up happening. We will see how a murderer, using an infinite number of resources, undertakes a hunt through several cities until he finds those responsible.
As I said, this film has certain peculiarities. One of them is the way the story is told. They do it through the "Voice over/off" which is a tool that allows us to be constantly in the mind of that murderer and know what he thinks. I like this a lot because it gives us a different perspective on everything, meeting an inaccessible man and knowing how monotonous he is and how that trained mind gradually breaks down due to moral and physical fatigue is undoubtedly one of the great attractions of the film. You will see how he constantly has to remind himself step by step what he has to do in order not to lose focus and fall into empathy, something that for him is the worst thing that could happen. This form of narration is very typical of Fincher.
The plot is incredibly simple and flat, it is very easy to understand, it has no shortcuts or tangents but that is not a problem here because the other elements that surround it make it very enjoyable. There is a beginning, a development and an end, it's that straightforward. I'm telling you that you won't get bored, the beginning may feel slow but that passivity has a reason to be. The second element I'm talking about is the visual, another of the great successes. It has an aura of an old movie from the seventies or eighties which is achieved by the color palette used; really and I repeat again, the cinematography is very top in this film, the photography is very successful.
The only protagonist is him even though we have Tilda Swinton around. A very good performance by Fassbender, very sober and complete. When it was his turn to be physically demanding he delivered a very good result, the same when it was his turn to play the dramatic, pragmatic and calculating character. Very few words but in the end you end up knowing him well thanks to his acting. The way he kills and the way he sets everything up is another great thing to see in this film. A solid 8/10, the film is really good, well worth a watch. It's very similar to The Punisher, both with adapted comics for a reason. It's on Netflix and is less than two hours long. Highly recommended to everyone. I leave the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
I am starting to get interested in this one, although as of the moment I am not sold on it being a "killer" movie, I think I am going to check it out if there is something different in store for me from this movie.
The truth is that if it is a very worthwhile film, it may convince you at first but it ends up being a great choice. I hope you get to see it!
