SEX EDUCATION: A series that seems absurd and juvenile but it goes far beyond of what we expected...
When I first saw Sex Education, I thought it would be just another teen series of those that abound everywhere in the Netflix catalog. The truth is that it is extremely entertaining. It goes through the life of a group of people are teenagers, in a very peculiar British town, with quotas of necessary humor but sometimes bordering on the absurd and predictable although what I highlight most of this production is the ability to develop people that has; a pleasant surprise for this type of realizations....
As I said before, I started watching it to pass the time, as one more entertainment in my life. No pretense whatsoever, to be honest. Several times, in my Netflix experience, I have found myself starting a documentary with an excellent name or a flashy series from the same platform, which at the time does not captivate me or I find it simply uninteresting. "Sex Education" is a catchy name; I have to give the big "N".... that much credit.
The first season, to be honest, I found it to be a bit of a silly comedy? Because humor is something I appreciate but it also requires intelligence, creativity and grace. In Sex Education, nudity without apparent context or explanation was common. Funny" scenes that used the resource of the sudden blow or the typical scene of embarrassing nudity that, at least from my perspective, is more regrettable than remarkable. Case apart with many of its characters, such as Maeve and her inquiry between poverty, family problems and how this affects the mind of a growing girl.
But I want to emphasize the naturalization of sex in adolescence that I simply admire. While the humor and low drama cut of the series is characteristic of the audience Netflix wants to hook (which is teenagers and young adults around the world, especially in Europe and the United States) it is no less true that, what we consume has to be plausible in terms of reflecting reality. And I am a person who loves it when movies really reflect reality.
Nowadays, many people think that young people are becoming hypersexualized, I believe that what has been lost is the fear of the taboo itself. Hence, I applaud what the metamessage of Sex Education wants to convey to us. Not only is sex common, but it can and should be very broad. The different variations of sex that a human being can practice is something that is very well brought to the screen. The casting is inclusive but not "forced". Something that also raises many eyebrows and generates problems everywhere.
Montage resources that we see in many episodes of all seasons, along with the wonderful direction of photography that, especially in the 3rd and 4th season we can see, is something that makes me smile. Let's remember, when I first started watching this series, I didn't have the least bit of hope with it; and I can say that in my opinion, I think it will age very well in the common denominator of this generation of boys and girls who see themselves represented in the stories they see on the screens.
Less than two months ago, the last season came out and it raised several guffaws because of the aging of the casting compared to the age of the characters. I like the way they did it. Not just because it's a subjective opinion, but because they didn't use CGI to improve the quality or imperfections. Also, the maturity of the last seasons is something I appreciate. Because there is humor, mischief, pragmatic sex education and zero tolerance for prejudice. You may or may not agree with how Netflix presents its series, but the values it tries to naturalize are interesting and respectable. Excellent choice, to be honest...

The immaturity and silliness of the character's is sometimes easy to relate to as I can see myself in their shoes at times. Let's be honest some of the things portrayed in the movie does happen to most of us. Lovely review by the way
Exactly accurate, @caithlyn. Sex Education is silly and profound, as we all were once. That's something we shouldn't forget. Thanks for stopping by.
It was recommended to me some time ago, but I never had time to watch it. Now that it has come to its definitive end, maybe I'll look it up to watch the whole series and see if it's as good as most viewers say it is.
It takes time to adapt into it but yes I believe you will find it interesting, trust me, @jcrodriguez. Thanks for your comment, buddy!
