As I have already told, I was invited to a cinema club, and it is funny that they told me “we invite you to see the least cinematic movie we have seen in this club”, because, being the seventh time the club met, they decided to see 007 Skyfall. I really couldn't disagree more that the movie is not cinema, because it is amazing in body and form, but, ironically, it is not my kind of movie. I said some time ago that I was out of action movies, but the truth is that Skyfall is different, why? Let me tell you what I thought of the movie:

Skyfall is the third 007 movie starring actor Daniel Craig, and it is the first of the saga to be directed by Sam Mendes. After Quantum, the 007 saga was dying, and it is really understandable since it is a very classic action saga, and the action, over the years, has changed, but James Bond has remained the same. For that reason, and to improve the saga, EON productions wanted to gather the best team to make a great James Bond movie, and the truth is that they achieved it, being the highest grossing movie of the saga, the best known, also Oscar winner and for many, the best movie of the saga. This is due to its great team: Sam Mendes (director of American Beauty and 1917) as director, Roger Deakins (director of photography of Blade Runner 2049 and 1917) as director of photography, and John Logan (screenwriter of Rango, Hugo and The Last Samurai) as screenwriter.

Skyfall is a 007 movie that despite being the middle of the saga can be seen as a single movie and that seems something incredible to do, but also..., it is true that when I finished the movie I found myself with some feelings, because I understood how great the movie was, but I didn't end up loving it. However, the more I thought about it to write this post, I realized that Skyfall is a spy movie, a revenge movie, an action movie and it is also a Hollywood mega production like they don't make anymore. Not only that, but the movie is meta (something that possibly fans of the saga have been very grateful for) making jokes and comments about Bond himself that seem to have a double meaning as it is such a recognizable and long-lived story.

Now, at least me, I'm very used to John Wick type action movies, and there are many of them (and I love them, I hope they keep coming), but seeing an action movie with such a classic and yet so beautiful mise-en-scene surprised me. Point in favor for Sam Mendes and also for the casting choice, as Javier Bardem, despite not coming out until halfway through the film, makes the best character of the film and every interaction he has with Bond is as incredible as hypnotic for the good of the Craig Bardem duo.

Definitely a type of movie I wouldn't watch twice, but, because it is so good and interesting, it is, ironically a movie I need to watch again. Maybe because I wasn't alone, or because I needed to watch it with as much volume as possible on the biggest screen, but I feel like there was something missing that I will get from watching it a second time, something I would never have thought to say about a James Bond movie.

Como ya he contado, me invitaron a un cine club, y es gracioso que me dijeron “te invitamos a ver la película menos cine que hemos visto en este club”, ya que, al ser la séptima vez que se reunía el club, decidieron ver 007 Skyfall. La verdad no puedo estar más en desacuerdo a que la película no es cine, porque es increíble en cuerpo y forma, pero, irónicamente, no es de mi tipo de películas. Hace tiempo dije que estaba afuera de las películas de acción, pero la verdad es que Skyfall es diferente, ¿por qué? Déjame te cuento bien lo que me pareció la película:

Skyfall es la tercera película de 007 protagonizada por el actor Daniel Craig, y es la primera de la saga en ser dirigida por Sam Mendes. Después de Quantum, la saga 007 estaba muriendo, y es realmente comprensible ya que es una saga muy clásica de acción, y la acción, con los años, ha cambiado, pero James Bond se ha quedado igual. Por eso, y para mejorar la saga, EON productions quiso reunir el mejor equipo para así hacer una gran película de James Bond, y la verdad, lo logró con creces, siendo la película de la saga más taquillera, la más conocida, también ganadora de Oscar y para muchos, la mejor película de la saga. Esto debido a su gran equipo: Sam Mendes (director de american beauty y 1917) como director, Roger Deakins (director de fotografía de Blade Runner 2049 y 1917) cómo director de fotografía, y John Logan (guionista de Rango, Hugo y El último Samurai) como guionista.

Skyfall es una película de 007 que a pesar de ser la mitad de la saga se puede ver cómo película única y eso parece algo increíble de hacer, pero además…, es cierto que al terminar la película me encontré con algunos sentimientos, porque comprendía lo grande que era la película, pero a mí no me terminó de encantar. Sin embargo, mientras más lo pensaba para escribir este post, me di cuenta de que Skyfall es una película de espías, una película de venganza, una película de acción y además es una mega producción de Hollywood como ya no se hacen. No solo eso, sino que la película es meta (cosa que posiblemente los fans de la saga hayan agradecido mucho) haciendo chistes y comentarios sobre el propio Bond que parecen tener un doble sentido al ser una historia tan reconocida y longeva.

Ahora, por lo menos yo, estoy muy acostumbrado a las películas de acción tipo John Wick, y es que así hay muchas (y me encantan, por mí que sigan saliendo), pero ver una película de acción con una puesta en escena tan clásica y a su vez tan hermosa me sorprendió. Punto a favor por Sam Mendes y también por la elección de casting, ya que Javier Bardem, a pesar de no salir sino hasta la mitad de la película, hace el mejor personaje de la película y cada interacción que tiene con Bond es tan increíble como hipnótica por lo bien de la dupla Craig Bardem

Sin duda, un tipo de películas que no vería dos veces, pero, al ser tan buena e interesante, es, irónicamente una película que necesito volver a ver. Tal vez porque no estaba solo, o porque necesitaba verla con todo el volumen posible en la pantalla más grande, pero siento que faltó algo que obtendré al verla una segunda vez, cosa que nunca habría pensado decir de una película de James Bond.
