Three religions in one place near the border with Ukraine #2 - Synagogue

A few days ago I published a post about the town of Wielkie Oczy (Big Eyes), where there are three religious buildings of three different religions. I recently visited the orthodox church, today it is a synagogue.

Kilka dni temu opublikowałem post o miejscowości Wielkie Oczy w której są trzy budynki sakralne trzech różnych religii. Ostatnio odwiedziłem cerkiew, dzisiaj jest to synagoga.

It was built in 1910 and is an example of the Moorish architectural style that was popular in Eastern European synagogue designs at the turn of the 20th century, located on the border between Poland and Ukraine. The building has characteristic features such as arched windows and decorative cornices and other details that were restored during the renovation of the facade.

Została zbudowana w 1910 roku i jest przykładem mauretańskiego stylu architektonicznego, który był popularny w projektach synagog w Europie Wschodniej na przełomie XIX i XX wieku, ta znajduje się na pograniczu Polski i Ukrainy. Budynek posiada charakterystyczne elementy, takie jak łukowe okna i dekoracyjne gzymsy i inne detale, które zostały odrestaurowane podczas remontu elewacji.

During World War II, the synagogue was severely damaged by the Germans. After the war, the building remained in ruins for many years. After 2010, conservation and reconstruction works began, aimed at restoring the former glory of this place. Today, the synagogue no longer serves a religious function. The building serves as a museum, as well as a place for cultural and educational events, reminding us of the centuries-long presence of Jews in this area and their tragic fate during the Holocaust.

Podczas II wojny światowej, synagoga została poważnie zniszczona przez Niemców. Po wojnie, przez wiele lat budynek pozostawał w ruinie. Po roku 2010 rozpoczęto prace konserwatorskie i rekonstrukcyjne, mające na celu odtworzenie dawnej świetności tego miejsca. Dziś synagoga nie pełni już funkcji religijnej. Budynek służy jako muzeum, a także miejsce wydarzeń kulturalnych i edukacyjnych, przypominając o wielowiekowej obecności Żydów w tych okolicach oraz ich tragicznych losach w czasie Holokaustu.

Unfortunately I couldn't get into the museum, it was closed. However I could peek a bit through the windows :)

Niestety nie udało mi się wejść do muzeum, było nieczynne. Jednak mogłem trochę podejrzeć przez okna :)
