Ferrari: It's worth seeing
Last weekend was a pretty nice one for me; I could possibly say nothing momentous happened, just simple things and those that engaged me better with life and my partner, but I guess that's actually pretty momentous right? I needed it after a challenging week and the weekend delivered exactly that.
In another post I wrote that I'd not share too much about my weekend but I wanted to mention this move I saw at the cinema called Ferrari, starring Adam Driver (Enzo Ferrari), Penélope Cruz (Enzo's wife) and Shailene Woodley (Enzo's mistress) and many others which I have been eagerly anticipating, being a huge car, motor racing and Formula One fan.
Because I've watched Formula One racing since the age of nine, forty five years or so, I know a lot about it and the players, not least of which is Ferrari.
I have visited and toured the Ferrari factory and museum in Maranello, Modena, Italy, and drove one of their amazing vehicles around the place there (F430 Spyder) and have read countless books on the Scuderia, the company and the founder himself. He was a complicated man, driven to succeed, never content with average or even above average so drove for continual improvement and one who, I think tragically, never seemed satisfied with much at all, his own life included. I was curious to see how the movie conveyed that, and the man generally, and how Adam Driver would bring it together in a way I would relate to considering the vast amount of information I have about the man who was Enzo Ferrari.
I have no complaints about the movie, it was excellent, and I'm looking forward to it coming to my PayTV stream so I can see it again, and probably again.
It's complex, or so I found it, because of what I knew already I guess but it was still enjoyable to watch, entertaining and, for me, quite thought-provoking.
It's not a "life and times of Enzo Ferrari' movie at all, it starts when he's around sixty years old in the late 1950's and and clearly demonstrates the challenges, successes and monumental stress the man would have been under from the early days and through the rise of Ferrari to the most lofty of heights. It also hit home to me the amazing changes and development the man saw and was a part of considering e was born in 1898. He was, quite simply, the king of that industry and, as William Shakespeare said in his play, Henry IV Part 2, "uneasy is the head that wears a crown'." The dizzying heights Enzo and his organisation rose to certainly took a terrible toll upon the man himself.
Overall, I'd suggest the movie is certainly one worth seeing. It was well put together, easy to watch and enjoyable...don't mind Adam Driver's questionable Italian accent though, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment factor at all.
These days, I struggle to find much of substance in movies that have AI written scripts, CGI glitz and actors brought in for their marketability rather than their acting skills. They seem hollow, made to target a lucrative market space rather than being made for the sake of the art or story; I guess money talks right? CGI movies get all the attention; movies like Oppenheimer, Ex Machina, Boy with the Striped Pyjamas, The Danish Girl, Testament of Youth and many, many others play second fiddle to such drivel as Aquaman, Fast and Furious, and Marvel movies that, whilst possibly mildly entertaining, are quite forgettable once seen.
Anyway, I recommend Ferrari as a movie worth watching if you're looking for something with a little more depth and a well directed, shot and acted film.

Well, I haven't seen any Ferrari in real life (except in the form of toys). And when you talk about movies, I guess you are right because I have watched all of those you mentioned above but not this Ferrari movie.
It also got an IMDb rating of 6.8, but I will give it a look now.

Marvel movies are my favourite of all time but aquaman still crosses them all (although I don't like other DC movies).
This movie is filled with action and adventure, also it has a touch of science fiction plus the character Jason momoa(aquaman) and amber heard(Mera) also added to it's beauty.
Ah ok, you meant the Marvel movies. I think they're garbage, which I think I conveyed in my text above should you have had a read.
I haven't seen the movie, but with your high praise, I'll check it out once it is available in Netflix in my area. Even when I was younger, Ferrari has always had a different air or class to it. Whenever we pass by a car rental service that had multiple Ferraris, we would always marvel at how nice it looks. It was nice that you were able to visit the Ferrari Museum, as well as drive one. It was one of my dreams when I was younger.
I can't say "you'll like it," I just don't know what you like, but I can definitely say it's an interesting and well put-together movie, and well acted in my humble opinion. Give it a crack on Netflix when it arrives there, if you don't like it you can switch it off.
I guess I'll be glad to take a look, actually I love movies that are based on real life event, because I know extra work will be put into production so as to portray actually event, not like all those movies with all the CFX CGI cinematic effects.....

If you're a Ferrari guy I think you'll like it. I'm more of an Aston Martin guy to be honest, but I guess having said that, I appreciate anything that is well crafted...and who doesn't like Ferrari's? 😁

Haven't heard nor seen the movie but I like Ferrari. There was always the question of what would someone pick between Lamborghini and Ferrari and I always preferred the 2nd one since Lambos seemed way too popular for me. Not to mention that almost all of them look the same, lol!
I prefer Aston Martin's, I find them to be more classy, a little more understated than the two you mention, although I'd not say no to any of them and certainly appreciate them all. I'm a car guy so like most cars. My ideal vehicle though? A pick up truck. Love them!
If I had to pick a supercar then none of Ferarri or Lambo would be my pick but a Corvette, lol! Either way, I would see myself driving a SUV too, way more close to my passions outdoors than what I'll be able to do with a supercar haha

Yeah, Ford V's Ferrari was a great movie as well, nicely acted and some good racing scenes. I think you'll like Ferrari.
I remember watching the trailer a while ago, but then I just lost track of it somehow. I'll have to make some time and watch it ASAP.
I used to watch Indy car racing with my dad back when I was a kid, but I kind of stopped doing that after I moved out. He and my mom still watch NASCAR and the Indy 500, but I don't think he ever really got into formula 1 racing too much. It's just not as big over in the US I guess. I've been doing a little "what I'm watching" series here on Hive for a while now, the recent ones haven't gotten too much love though. I intend to keep writing them. In fact, I might have another one tomorrow or early next week.
I guess with the, didn't get a lot of love comment...if you enjoy doing it, writing about what you're watching, then that's what's important and probably means it's written better for it, you know?
As for the car racing, I don't watch any of the American stuff despite it all being shown here live. I watch some NFL though, I used to play. I don't miss the F1 races when they're on though, love it. Interestingly, there's three F1 races in America, all sellout's and one of them happens to have the highest ticket prices by a long margin out of any of the other 23 races. Seems like someone likes it.
I think it's only in the past five years or so that those races started being held in the US. I know that they just had the first one in Vegas a bit ago. Detroit used to have a grand prix in the downtown area, but I am not sure they still do.
They held the first F1 championship race in America in 1959...I missed that one because I wasn't born. The first Las Vegas F1 race was held in 1981. Tom Sneva won that one in a March-Ford. Mario Andretti was second...can't recall third...John someone. Been racing in the States for a long time. F1 is owned by Liberty Media...Americans.
Did they stop for a while? I swear they were hyping up this recent race in Vegas like it was the first time they had ever held it there.
First time since 1984. They've been racing in COTA for years though. circuit of the Americas. A long history of F1 in America.

Yeah, I'm not into the Las Vegas race and didn't really like all the sparkles they added to the "spectacle", I'm into the racing not DJ's, rap stars and other such people with an over-inflated sense of themselves...AI just want to watch car racing. I prefer the race at COTA.
I saw there were a lot of A list stars attending the race when they had it. That's pretty typical for the US though. It's always about how it looks 😜
Yeah, exactly. I get it, the commercial aspect, but it was rather...over the top.
Oppenheimer is a film I definitely want to see, I like films to analyse and think, although I've seen some of those funny ones. But those that are more profound leave more to learn.
Lately I see movies where the actors are not so well known but they leave a great teaching or series as well, miniseries.
I don't know if you saw the series Lupin, it's very good and interesting. Or the miniseries My Sweet Girl. Just to name two. Very good!
I like interesting, out of the ordinary and thought provoking.

I liked Oppenheimer a lot, it's not what people think it is though, it's about the man more than the bomb he created which is what I liked about the film.
I just finished season one of The Peripheral which I liked, thinking of watching The Tudors again.
Yes I have seen reviews of the film and that's why I want to see it, because it talks about the man, and as for the others, I'll write them down!

What a wonder to go to Maranello, to see and drive those cars is something that everyone should do at least once in their life.
Enzo was a complicated man but he always sought perfection in his cars and it can be said that he achieved it, I don't know if you have seen it but there is a documentary called Ferrari: Return to Inmortality that tells the first years of the Scuderia in F1, it is quite interesting for all the history that it tells with images of the drivers and the races of the time.
I loved what you tell about the movie, I saw the trailer and I have been waiting for it for a long time, as soon as it is available here I will see it and more after reading your post. Although I must say that I am more of Mercedes Benz or Aston Martin, the Scuderia is not to my liking in F1, although their contributions and titles in the highest category are undeniable, a pity that today they do not live their best moment.

I don't care if they came out with a motor racing movie about the worst car of all time, I'll still see it; I'm a race fan. This one was particularly good though and I think you'll like it.
As far as road cars go, I'm more an Aston Martin guy; understated and sophisticated. Doesn't mean I don't like Ferrari's. But...all that said, I'm a 4x4 and pickup truck guy. #cowboylife

Lol...me too. I'll never had a Ferrari, even if I was tohave the money to buy one...I'll never have an Aston Martin either...A Chevrolet Denali pickup truck though...now that's likely.

With current cinema I have an absolute disconnect, actually the disconnect is not so absolute, I can remember some movies from a few years ago now like Dunkirk or The Imitation Game. The last one that caught my attention is also a few years old but I have recently seen it on TV. " El abrazo de la Serpiente" (The Embrace of the Serpent) directed by director Ciro Guerra. Dunkirk is one of my favourites as is 1917, both great movies. Oh, and also Fury. I love history and especially war history so a lot of what I read and watch is related. Have you seen Hacksaw Ridge? True story, worth a look.

Yes I have seen it. I saw it a few months ago on TV, I did not remember it but I thought it was a very good movie, apart from the fact that it is based on real events. About Marvel movies, I prefer the SF movies of the 50s and 60s 👽🛸.
The F430 is probably the last one in the "puro sangue" lineup of Ferraris. Great exhaust sound without the need for an aftermarket exhaust pipe, still rocking a manual gearbox while offering the option for automatic versions for the lazy ones and somehow earthly. I think I heard something recently about Ferrari going full electric in the coming decade or so which kind of sucks. If they're doing it(in case the rumor is true) just so that they be part of the great reset, then that sucks. I don't think there's any threat to our planet coming from the exhaust pipes... There's no threat actually, the planet is in no danger, climate has always changed over the course of time and it will always do, no matter if we will still be inhabiting it or not. Just my two cents...
I was a fan of Ferrari and Schumacher, I believe that Porsches are superior as road cars, and probably more reliable too, but nothing can beat the sound of a proper Ferrari V8, or V12... Testarossa was my favorite when I was a child.
The F430 was glorious and I totally agree, the direction they took from about that point changed things for ever. Progress? Maybe.
I haven't heard the all-electric thing but I'd not be surprised, it seems to be the way they're all going but the impact/benefit on the planet? Time will tell if there really is one. I'm not a huge fan of all-electric cars, the designers make them look fucked, like the Tesla. Piece of shit in my opinion.
Anyway, that aside, there's so much history around the Ferrari brand and it's incredible to think one guy was at the root of it huh?

I loved Adam Driver in this movie. I wasnt a fan of him until I saw House of Gucci. I loved that movie too, although its not high rated as Ferrari and I can understand why. Still, I enjoyed it.
Oppenhaimer was amazing too. I didnt get bored the whole three hours.

I know many who would not sit through Oppenheimer but, like you, I had no trouble following and enjoying it, despite its length. I'll watch it again at some stage. And Adam Driver in Ferrari, I think did a really good job. He's not a bad actor really, I first saw him in a star wars movie in which he brought a certain intensity.

Yep, some people hate it...It was one of the first movies I ever saw at the cinema, (1978) and I've always had a soft spot for it.
I dont hate it....its just not my type of movie. Actually I dont enjoy much movies with eliens, space or robots in general.
