Uhm… when was the last time you saw the TV on in a bank? For the past couple of weeks now, I’ve been going to banks steadily due to an issue I had with my account and I just realized that during my trip, I’ve never seen their TV on. It’s always turned off, and this is the first time I’ve noticed it. This is weird and strange because it’s definitely not how it used to be.

Back in the day, banks always had their TV on. The volume would either be on mute, or it would be muffled to create a little background noise, however, it was always on. It would be on an international news station, always giving up-to-date reports of events going on all around the world. It was a normal thing and we didn’t really think much of it.

However, what has happened? Did the economy also hit the banks? Have they realized that putting news for the customers is not really as important as it used to be, least of all now when everyone has one thing or the other to distract them on their phones?

All these banks always use cable, and many of us also use it, so we know just how expensive it is to use. Many people have given up on cable entirely due to how expensive they are and they don’t even get recent movies on them. The news they claim to give can just as easily be gotten online as with only a few clicks on our phones. Then thanks to social media, the same news channels that are on the cable also post their major news on their social media handles as well.

So you see, news is all around us. That is why many people no longer pay them any mind. I for one gave up on them a long time ago. I’ve not subscribed for close to two years now and I don’t regret it. I’d rather use that money to buy data on my router, and then use it to watch YouTube all day than use it on a cable that will not even do me well.

At this point, the only die-hard fans of cable are football lovers. For some reason, football is one sport that’s yet to get into the streaming service and cable is holding onto it with everything they’ve got. I heard that Netflix is looking to secure rights to stream Premier League matches live. If they can get this, it will be a major game changer in the media industry.

Can you imagine what it would be like to subscribe with a small amount of money but get access not just to your favorite sports but also to new movies of your choosing? It would be insane. At that point, no one will care about cable anymore. Because their customers are already dwindling, within the next couple of years, I’m sure that they’ll die out. The era of streaming is taking over and nothing is stopping it.

So, it’s all good. Everyone is moving forward, and so are the banks. Forget that their vaults are full of money, they too are feeling the tightness of the economy. That’s why even they can’t afford to pay for cable. You can’t blame them biko.

We are in digital world and now we don't need cable for watching television as long as we have internet. Now we can access almost all the channels through internet. Even we can see those in smart tv also without any cable. I almost forgot when for the last time ai watched tv.

As in ehn... TV will be sitting there, waiting for who will come and watch it. It's the reality of the day.

Everyone is feeling the heat of the economy including the banks and let me mention that their indirect stealing from us is becoming too high nowadays .lol, they are obviously trying hard to survive this days. I know I visited both GTB and stanbic Bank recently and nothing like TV shows
I guess we are all moving forward to embrace our digital world.

You can’t blame them biko.

Bruno stop speaking Igbo here oo 😃

Omo... even with the stealing, things are still hard for them. This economy is no one's mate!😂
Omo... leave my Igbo for me ooo! Many times, I just write out things exactly how they are in my head. So sometimes an Igbo word or two will slip in.😂😂😂
