30 years of 90s Pulp Fiction

Hello Hello Hivians

It is Friday and I am still not 100% back fighting fit but getting there...

Earlier in the week I ended up spending part of Tuesday getting pictures on to this post After a week inside , finally a breath of fresh air for the invalid instead of writing a TTT! In other words I did not submit a threetunetuesday post for this week which is fluffing annoying as I knew exactly what I wanted to post about!

Nineties Friday community and tag to the fluffing rescue...

So I have seen @thebighigg and @geneeverett posting posts on a Friday with #nintiesfriday and so I am joining in for reasons that will be apparent in wee jiffy!!

21st October 1994

That date is the day one of my favourite films was released in the UK ...

Yep 30 fluffing years....

It does have a bloody awesome soundtrack. I think when I like a movie or film as we say over here then there is inevitably a fcking good soundtack that goes with it...

Can you guess the film?

Let's see if this trailer jogs your memory...

Yes it's the one and only Pulp Fiction

An absolute classic that launched Quentin Tarantino into stardom and resurrected John Travolta!

It has some scenes that are belters plus some of my favourite actors and actresses and a kickass soundtrack what is not to like!

What is Pulp Fiction about?

In short gangstas!

But for me it also about righteous choices and happy endings

Pulp Fiction weaves together several seemingly unconnected and unrelated stories set in the Los Angeles underworld.

Or so we think....

It follows hitmen Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), mob boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames), his wife Mia (Uma Thurman), and boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis).

Their paths cross in unexpected and often violent ways.

Why do I like Pulp Fiction?

I guess there are four main reasons that can be summed up as ....

  • Jumps all over the bloody place! They call it Non-linear storytelling in other words the story plays out ... out of chronological order, keeping us on our toes keeping us guessing and all the time adding layers of intrigue.
  • Sharp af dialogue Tarantino is known for his witty, pop-culture-laden dialogue. Pulp Fiction is a prime example of that. It's quotable, funny, ridiculous at times and often shocking.

  • Unforgettable scenes From the adrenaline-charged dance contest below to the tense diner robbery Pulp Fuction is fluffing stuffed with iconic moments.

  • Eclectic soundtrack The soundtrack is a mix of surf rock, soul, and pop, and perfectly sums up the film's cool vibe.

So what of the soundtrack... Let's close this out with some tunes!

I do know that now I want to see it again, it has been forever and a bloody day since I watched it!

Pulp Fiction • Misirlou • Dick Dale

What about that guitar riff then?

One of my very favorite movies too, it really was Tarantino's masterpiece as the three stories blended together so perfectly. I never get tired of seeing this classic. It did save Travolta's career though, even though he dies in the film!

Great post!

I'm still recovering too. I don't think I still have Covid, but either allergies or some other kind of infection knocked me back down again.

Yeah we have the flu, a cold and the covid all swirling round town, to create a super lurgy or some such bollocks.
Hope you get fully better soon bozz!

I think the great thing about Pulp Fiction at the time was that it was one of the first films that did Non-linear storytelling in a really great way and ignited the format somewhat. I think it was also a film with a great soundtrack that was synced well with the film sequences. I hope you get well soon Ed.

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

Thanks Steve, you are bang on with the non-linear storytelling, and it was done so well. The soundtrack and syncing are what really made it for me!
Thanks for the pick and hope you have a great weekend!
