The Green Mile” is a great story directed by Frank Darabont, based on the novel by Stephen King. This story takes place in the prison “death row” and it follows the life of the guards and death row inmates of the prison.

Paul Edgecomb , quien es el protagonista se enfrenta a la llegada de un nuevo prisionero, se trata de Jonh Coffey, este es un hombre Afroamericano condenado por el asesinato de dos niñas. Coffey es un hombre fuerte, robusto, gigante y de piel oscura. A medida que los guardias interactúan con él ellos descubren ciertas habilidades y sobre todo la verdadera personalidad de este.

Paul Edgecomb, who is the protagonist, faces the arrival of a new prisoner, John Coffey, an African-American man convicted of the murder of two girls. Coffey is a strong, robust, giant, dark-skinned man. As the guards interact with him they discover certain abilities and above all his true personality.

Resulta que a pesar de sus características fisicas, Coffey es timido y asustadizo. También se puede apreciar la vida de otros prisioneros como Eduard Delacroix, un hombre condenado a muerte que encuentra consuelo en un ratón el cual lleva por nombre "Mr. Jungles" y luego este hace una amistad entrañable con Coffey a pesar de estar sentenciados ellos logran ser amigos y vivir el tiempo que les queda de una forma humana.

We can also appreciate the life of other prisoners such as Eduard Delacroix, a man condemned to death who finds comfort in a mouse named “Mr. Jungles” and then he makes an endearing friendship with Coffey despite being sentenced they manage to be friends and live the time they have left in a humane way.

Luego la película consigue llegar a su desenlace y coloca temas centrales como los prejuicios, los juicios y las ordenes que deben seguir un guardia, lo que presenta temas de moralidad entre seguir una orden y hacer lo correcto. A través de los poderes especiales de Coffey, al tocar el brazo de este le es revelado a traves de sus poderes a Paul que Coffey solo fue testigo de un brutal crimen cometido por otro de los reclusos que se encuentra en la misma prisión.

The film then builds to its denouement and places central themes such as prejudice, judgments and the orders a guard must follow, which presents issues of morality between following an order and doing the right thing. Through Coffey's special powers, by touching his arm, it is revealed through his powers to Paul that Coffey was only a witness to a brutal crime committed by another inmate in the same prison.

La película es maravillosa, y estoy segura que muchos ya la vieron! Pero basándonos en esta maravillosa obra podemos ver que el ser humano intrínsicamente guarda prejuicios que van ajustados muchas veces a los estereotipos de las personas, su cultura, su raza y sus características físicas.

The movie is wonderful, and I am sure many of you have already seen it! But based on this wonderful work we can see that the human being intrinsically keeps prejudices that are often adjusted to the stereotypes of people, their culture, their race and their physical characteristics.

Prejuicios - Prejudice

Principalmente al momento de encontrar a Coffey junto a las niñas se señala a este, a pesar de que el mismo se encuentra totalmente destrozado y llora junto al cuerpo de estas. No se le preguntó, solo se le señalo y condenó. Uno de los primeros Prejuicios que se observa es el racial; Ya que la época en la que se presenta la narrativa es una época de segregación racial en Estados Unidos.

Mainly when Coffey was found with the girls, he was singled out, despite the fact that he was totally devastated and crying next to their bodies. He was not questioned, only singled out and condemned. One of the first prejudices that is observed is the racial one; since the time in which the narrative is presented is a time of racial segregation in the United States.

La figura de nuestro personaje esta rodeado de ciertos caracteres fisicos, es asi que al ver a un hombre robusto, gigante a este se le logra asociar con maldad, donde la apariencia fisica de este provoca miedo y mucha desconfianza.

Juicios - Trials

Sin embargo, ellos le plantean a Coffey que decidieron en conjunto permitirle huir de la prisión, Coffey aunque agradecido por la propuesta decidió cumplir su condena de muerte, cansado de tanta maldad en los demás, él prefirió la sentencia.

Estos casos de prejuicios y juicios infundados muchas veces se logran ver en la sociedad, donde los estereotipos de personas son señalados y juzgados. Así también, el hecho de que a veces se cumpla una orden a pesar de que estas involucren situaciones espantosas como lo son las guerras, que en nombre de cumplir con el deber o el trabajo personas mueren.

These cases of prejudice and unfounded judgments are often seen in society, where stereotypes of people are pointed out and judged.
