Sahara 2005.pngscreenshot from the movie

I saw this movie some time ago and only remember that it had something to do with a man looking for an american relic in the Sahara. In my wanting to have a review for today, I re-watched this and boy am I glad I did.

Matthew McConaughey plays the character Dirk Pitt, a treasure hunter who becomes tangled in what appears to be an outbreak of dome kind.

Dirk is introduced during an attack on Eva Rojas (Played by Penelope Cruz), a WHO doctor, who thinks she has stumbled upon a plague. After saving her and bringing her on board the ship he works on, he proceeds to duck out of an event he is supposed to attend, in favor of meeting a contact who may have evidence of this treasure.

Later Dirk meets up with Eva and a fellow WHO doctor and head to Mali. There they part ways and Dirk and his friend go on there way looking for the evasive Ironsides Texas. They are attacked by the war lord Kazim's (played by Lennie James) men and realize Kazim is looking for the WHO doctors, so after destroying the Admirals boat they head on land. They grab some camels and head toward where the doctors were supposed to go.

By the time Dirk and Al arrive they witness the death of Eva's coworker and attack only after Kazim leave with orders to search the area and kill the female if found.

After saving the doctor and escaping, they move on finding themselves in the custody of locals which is when they discover the actual location of the american ship on top of finding more people affected by this sickness that was killing villagers in Mali. This is when it is realized the water is contaminated.

FInd out how they discover what is contaminating the water and how the situation is resolved.

This movie is a bit comedy mixed with LOTS of action and of course plenty of adventure. It came out in 20005 and is based on the Clive Cussler novel with the same name. Even though this movie was considered a box office flop due to the amount spent verses the amount made back I really enjoyed the plot. I think this is a movie everyone should watch.

Thank you @wanderingmoon for this exquisite reference. It is quite an invitation to see it. It is already part of my resolutions.

My favorite scene was after Dirk rescued the doctor from the solar plant and the three of them faced off against the warlord.
