The Crow (2024) - Immortal Love

I think that some movies are remade in new versions to create a nostalgic connotation for old fans and to introduce new audiences to this dark world and fiction.

I find most of these unnecessary because the original version of the movie was more successful, but I must say that it is also true in terms of reminding us and making a nostalgic comparison by going back to the past.

Finally, a new version of the 1994 movie The Crow was made and released under the same name in 2024.

I am one of those who consider the original movie a cult masterpiece. That being the case, I have to say that the new version starts with a disadvantage, but I would like to add right away that I will not be prejudiced in any way.

Or let's say I am conditioning myself. There's a saying I've been used to hearing for years; "if you say something forty times, it happens. I think with the remakes I get too much into “prejudice” and “expectation”.

So that I condition myself beforehand and focus more on the story of the movie or the performances of the actors than I should. This leads to a habit of being picky, but I know there are advantages to being selective.

Both the original movie and the remake have a common theme. They are loss, revenge and rebirth, and I would say they are very influential in the story of both movies.

In the new version, we don't see the story progression that was kept mysterious in the first movie and we had a hard time getting answers. The story of the new movie is clearly told in the simplest way possible.

The lack of mystery in the story can be criticized for most movies, but I don't think this is the case for The Crow (2024).

Maybe it's time for the mystery and the questions left unanswered in the story of the first movie to come to light. If the intention was to create a reverse effect, I think it was definitely successful.

Eric and Shelly, who died after a tragic event, mark the new version as the main characters of the movie. Both of them have a traumatic past and the story centers on their traumatic lives.

The story progression is kept quite simple. There is no plot waiting to be resolved, but despite this, it is very difficult to predict the flow of the movie. While predictability is one of the important elements that spoil the pleasure of watching movies without a mystery, I did not get such a feeling even for a second in the new movie.

After the romance between the two is kept limited, with the losses and the rebirth that immediately follows; the theme of revenge dominates and takes over the story of the movie.

When I look at the beginning and the end of the story, I can use the analogy of a building with a solid foundation. The highest floor has the best view, but it is the last to be completed. The movie has a similar progression. You don't know what's going to happen yet, but you have a growing sense that something beautiful is being built.

From the moment Eric (played by Bill Skarsgard) comes back to life immediately after his death, he successfully conveys the fire of revenge and the desire to get justice. Centering on his personal trauma and the pain of his lost girlfriend, the character presents a story of immortality and love.

While he uses the supernatural power he is given, in his effort to get justice, and even though he occasionally oversteps the boundaries and gets involved in a lot of bloody scenes, he is very successful in conveying both his sense of revenge and his sense of what he is willing to give up for his love.

I found the movie more successful because there were no gaps in the story and unlike the original movie, it had a story that didn't leave any question marks. It's not something I see a lot of in the remakes, but when it happens, I have to enjoy it to the fullest.

The new movie also stays true to the original story and can be seen as a sort of rebirth of Eric Draven. Although, if I don't ignore the final scene, I might find a new question mark about what kind of rebirth it was that I said it wasn't. Lol

As one of the old fans of The Crow, I can say that a bridge has been built between the two movies and in this way; while attracting old fans, new fans have been created. If I approach the film from an innovative point of view, I would add that the old story has been modernized and updated in a way.

From an innovative point of view, I recommend watching the movie to anyone who wants to meet the pain and dark world of Eric Draven. I am sure that old fans have already watched or will watch it. The new story seems to have taken a few steps forward, especially with the visuals and sound design.

Thank you for being here and reading. Take care and goodbye!

I haven't seen the original one yet, I guess I would watch that instead of the remake if I had to make a pick just looking at the ratings both get.

I think watch both of them, then the story makes more sense.
