Finally watched the first season of Game of Thrones - here are my impressions

After avoiding it for a long time, I finally watched the first season of Game of Thrones. I now understand why the series has become so iconic. Westeros is a rich and layered world filled with complex characters, each with their own motivations and goals.

The Stark family immediately caught my attention. Ned Stark stands out for his sense of honor and principles, making his death in the season finale especially painful. I knew Game of Thrones doesn't spare its characters, but I didn't expect Ned to die so early. His execution turns all expectations upside down, emphasizing the cruelty and unpredictability of the world of Westeros.

Jon Snow, who is fighting for his place in the Night's Watch, is also of interest. His journey on the Wall and his search for his purpose in this harsh world make him one of the most colorful characters. Ned's death reinforces Jon's importance in the future, and now his story seems even more important.

Daenerys Targaryen seemed like a minor character to me at first, but her rapid transformation into a strong leader, especially after the scene with the dragons, made her one of the most intriguing figures. Her stature and determination inspire respect and make it clear that she will play a key role in furthering the plot.

However, the series is not without its flaws. The sheer number of characters and lines can be tedious, especially in the beginning. The first few episodes require a high level of concentration to make sense of names and family ties. This may put some viewers off.

The brutality in the series seems excessive at times. Although it emphasizes the harshness of the world, some scenes of violence, especially towards women, seem unnecessary and unjustified.

The pace of the narrative is not always evenly paced either. The political intrigue is interesting, but sometimes it drags on, slowing down the development of the plot. Some episodes could have been more dynamic.

In the end, the first season of Game of Thrones impresses with its depth and unexpected twists, but requires the viewer's patience. It is an exciting but challenging journey through a cruel world where every step can be the last. The series deserves attention, but be prepared for its shortcomings.
