Return of a Childhood's Favorite: Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp (2024)

I have loved cartoons since my childhood. Many became favorites. The one with the distinguished laugh is also included in the list of my favorites. How can one forget the trademark laugh of Woody Woodpecker? This chaotic bird has caused havoc to many.

NETFLIX decided to make a live-action movie on Woody! Sure I was happy, but was I excited? Not necessarily, as they are not doing great with the live-action movies or series. The movie is titled "Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp," and it was released on April 12, 2024.

It was a fun movie, but to be honest, I would say the movie was not able to do justice for our beloved Woody! Beside Woody we get to see Buzz Buzzard and Wally Walrus.

The plot was simple. Woody doing what he does always is sent away from the forest by the forest ranger, he can only return to his home if he can prove to the ranger that he is a team player. Crossing the road, he comes to a camp, specifically that is 'Camp Woo Hoo'. The motto of the camp is "Dedicated to teamwork" which makes Woody happy as he would be able to return to his home in no time!

In the camp he meets several kids. Of course being the Woody, he makes fun of all! Nearly destroys the camp hall. Later we get to see another camp, just beside the camp "Woo Hoo" which is named camp "Hoo Rah". It is shown that both the camps are arch-nemesis.

Camp Woo Hoo is not doing great, on the other hand, camp Hoo Rah is blazing. Every year, a game is happened betweent the camps, the wilderness games. Camp Hoo Rah has been wining the game for last several years. Not being able to run the camp properly, camp Woo Hoo is about to be closed. But as a final chance, it is decided if camp Woo Hoo wins this year's Wilderness Games, then it will not be closed. The judge for the games is none other than Mr. Walrus.

In the meantime, Buzz has entered the camp Hoo Rah as chef and has been ordering many unusual staffs. He is there with a nefarious plan. The movie continue with Buss's evil plot and Woody somehow failing those.

What happen at the end? Well that is for those who would watch the movie themselves.

Now about the making of the movie...

As I have already mentioned, this is a normal plot showing how Woody becomes a team player. The cast have been good in their role. But, there could be more of Woody's mishaps. I think there were scopes to do so. Although it took emotional turns, but we all know Woody is not an emotional bird!

The thing which caught my eye is the rendered characters! Sure, they wanted not to go full live action, rather a mixed of animation and live action. But the rendering could have been better. Some frames were just too much obnoxious. The lighting, interaction with the character made it look odd. It did not look nice when some real character interacted with Woody, or the room lighting was oppositly imprinted on him.

This is not a must watch kind of movie. But for the love of Woody it can be seen.
