Hey people :)

Are you familiar with the movie Donnie Darko? It was made in 2001 and starred, among others Jake Gyllenhaal and Drew Barrymore. Both of them were still unknown in general and not seen as big movie stars.

Interestingly, the movie was never shown in Sweden in some of the larger and commercial cinemas. At the moment, I do not exactly know why this was the case. For example, the Uppsala Filmstudio, a student association for those interested in movies studying at the Uppsala Univeristy, published some years ago a post about the movie writing that:

Donnie Darko never made it to cinemas in Sweden. It's strange because this film has already been declared a cult classic by its audience. It's so refreshingly peculiar and profound that you can watch it practically as many times as you want, still be fascinated, and ponder what happens. This year, there's a new version of the film, a Director's cut, and now Swedish film buyers have awakened and realized what they missed when the film was last relevant. The film studio chose to show this film again, even though it's only been a year since we last screened it. Primarily because we think Donnie Darko is a great film, but also because during the previous screening, the film was unannounced in the program, and, as I mentioned, you can gladly watch this film over and over again.

What do you think about Donnie Darko? What are your experiences and memories with the movie?
