21 (2008): Taking Risks of Playing ~ Movie Review

I am going to review this movie about gambling. It's movie on how they will gamble in big casino and they will absolutely win with each time that they play. The director for this movie is Robert Luketic, writers are Peter Steinfeld, Allan Loeb, Ben Mezrich, and the casts are Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey.

I watched this movie when I was studying in my college and I also recently watched this last week because I like to watch movies that related to games at that time and thanks to Netflix, it was one of the recommended movie when I scroll down on their application.

It's about a group of people who wants to earn money while gambling or playing on a casino in a different way. They will only play 21 card game. It's a game that most people love and this is similar to one of the famous game called blackjack.

Ben is one of the main character and he is genius at math. Even counting is easy as him. He was poor and wants to make money and the only way to do it is to play in casinos to get enough money for his tuition but his life change when he played in a blackjack game and he can't be controlled until...

The mechanics of the game of blackjack is that you need to get your cards total up to 21 to have a "Blackjack" or below that and compare it to the dealers' card then you can win if you've got a higher score than the dealer. Of course there is also one rule that if you cards total will be over 21, then you are busted and you lose that round, the same for the dealers' card.

Ben became one of the best player from the team that makes millions out of the students that played in blackjack from the casino. Before he became one of their team, he will first do a tasks that most students cannot solve. He was also fascinated by one of the girl that was also part of the team. That's why he takes part of it and makes money out of it.

The characters of this movie need to train themselves to become expert of counting numbers from the blackjack game of the casino. They are from the most famous university which is MIT.

This movie was also inspired by real events where it happened before in most of the casinos all over the world and also for the people who were involve in it. They narrate on how they beat the system of blackjack and win millions of dollars after.

I like how they manage to pull in this kind of game from big casinos because in big casinos, there were lots of CCTV's, people that are watching and it's almost impossible to do this kind of cheating in that game but it's a risky one because you might found out from the management and you will get into trouble after you got caught.

I think if we use this kind of trick in most of the casinos today, it's not effective anymore but if you got caught on doing it, you will be ask to leave from their casino and maybe banned from entering on this one. Also, I think that most casinos are aware of this kind of trick and they change on how they will avoid this kind of trick.

For me, when the players play in the blackjack from the movie and they use that trick, I think it is not a form of cheating but a way to beat the system or like loophole from the game itself. But sadly, for the casinos, this kind of trick is a from of cheating because they will lose a lot of money if the players will play again and again.

I like the idea on how they manage to play the game. On how they plan from their school to fly to VEGAS and play in the casinos. I think this is fun to watch because you might know how you play the game but this is impossible now because we are on an age where technology is more advanced than before.

I would say that this movie is 8/10 because it has a great plot on how they plan first before they go into the casino and if they got caught, they also have another plan on that. It's one of my favorite movie and I like how the casts portrayed in the movie.
