Heya Cubs, and welcome to my blog.
This edition is about a movie that centers on a big event , so let's dive right into it.
As I thought about the movie , that includes this theme. I found out that most Chinese dramas i have seen have this requirement, and it's an event known as the Chinese New Year.
I'm doing a review on one of these dramas, and it is called "When I Fly Towards you..""
When I fly towards you is a romance drama. The drama was adapted from the novel. She's a little crazy by Zhu Yi and stars Zhou Yiran and Zhang Miaoyi as both male and female leads, respectively.
Here are my ratings for the movie;
Overall 8.5
Story 8.3
Acting/Cast 9.0
Music 6.9
Rewatch Value 8.2
Beware, though, this review may contain some spoilers π₯²π€;
Let me just say that the movie overall is giving cute and fun vibes.
For someone who isn't very keen on watching series, the behavior was shocking as i finished the series in like 4 nights or so due to the fact I always streamed on youtube.
I'm going to mention the 5lead characters of the movie so that in the depth of the blog, you don't get lost.
Su zai zai- cute bubbly girl, the female lead
Zhang Lu Rang - a quiet and shy boy, also the male lead
Jiang jia- su zai zai's best friend
Gu Ran and Guan Fang are good friends of Zhang Lurang.
Now, I have listed this for you. Here's the review proper.
The movie When I fly towards you is some sort of coming of age drama, but if I should say so myself, it is a must watch for all helpless romantics ^sigh^.
The plot is filled with sweet moments, tender gestures, and a deep emotional connection between the leads but as the movie goes on you could also notice that there was another romance story between the latter two in the friend group which was Gu Ran and Jiang Jia.
The chemistry between the lead actors was undeniable, though it blossomed gradually, which made their love feel authentic and sincere.
Another heartfelt part of the movie was the relationship that existed between the quintet. It was a kind of friendship that anyone would want. Where each of them had their backs.
Let's talk about a couple of characters in relation to my claim.
Gu Ran; Even though he seemed carefree deep down, he had no deep relationship with His parents as both were doctors, and they had no time for Him. Gu Ran tells Jiang Jia in Eps 12 how his parents will never know the countless hide and seek he played with them. As the hider, he always won because his parents never sought him. It was how he consoled himself.
This comment from him really broke me "I really want to lose for once."
When Jiang jia said, " I won today, I found you." It was Gu Ran's smile for me.
Zhang Lu Rang;
He is a boy who barely cracks a smile, he kept to himself and goes about his days quietly. You could even say He was introverted. He was brainy and was very good-looking too.
Later on, we soon discover the reason behind Lu Rang's shyness, which we realized was a reason for self-esteem. No, it is not one of those movies that the nerdy boy meets the queen bee of the school.
Okay, maybe it's looking like that, heheπ
^ .
But what I would like you all to know is that both His parents, especially his mother, are tiger parents. They are those kind that are so manipulative of their children's lives, especially the education sector. They are emotionally blind to the impacts of their actions or how it affects the kid. I have seen and read how children of the above category of parents abuse their children. Lu Rang is a victim of this, especially by his mother, who thinks he is a failure. She also compares him to his younger brother, who is the golden child of the family because he is smarter than Zhang Lurang.The irony of it all is that all his younger brother just wants is his brother's love. There are no warm words of encouragement from Lu Rang's cold mother despite his exemplary grade.
Su Zai Zai always uses her charm to remind him that he is none of the things that his parents believe him to be. The scene where she wrote
"It would be great if my English grades could be sold to Rang Rang..." made me tear a little because that was one of the reasons Rang's parents criticized him as his brother was better in English than him among other subjects. English usually made Rang Rang's scores to drop, too.
Guan Fang; He was viewed as the gullible one. He was that one person in a friend group you could say was dumb π
π. He always did favors for people, and that made people take advantage of Him.
His friends often worried about Him, and they decided to stand up for him when 2 guys were bullying his grandma, accusing her of selling spoilt foods.
But little did they know that Guan Fang could already stand up for himself. He was skilled in fighting. It turned out that He had a past they did not know about and that he was an orphan, his relatives refused him and he brought a lot of trouble to his grandma. He had no friends. It turned out that they were ever first friends he had. His friends also had his back during the time his granny was having issues with her store.
One of the strengths of the drama was the ability to use the characters to portray realistic or relatable struggles, joys, and heartbreak, making it easy to become invested in their stories.
Now, the highlight or the big event of the series was the Chinese New Year, also known. As Lunar New Year. It is celebrated to mark the beginning of the new year according to the Chinese Lunar calendar, signifying the end of the winter and the start of spring, and serving as a time for family reunion; it is considered the most important traditional holiday in Chinese culture,with the celebration lasting for 15days and including traditions like envelopes with money, lion dances and special foods.
This was my research on it.
And I must say that I agree with this as 89 percent of the movies I've seen never miss the opportunity to celebrate this event.
"How does this film interact with the big event?"
In Episode 11, the movie centered on the importance of the new year.
It was funny how, for the new year, Su zai zai wishes that before she turns 100, the fireworks manufacturers will never run out of stock. This is because it was Zhang Lu Rang's first firework with her. She wants him to think of her all his life.
For the other sets of friends, Jiang jia sends a timely message to Gu Ran when he's all alone for the new year. As his parents as usual are absent. Even though it was just a forwarded message for the wrong year, he's happier.
Guang Fang celebrated the New years with his grandmother.
Most C-dramas like Here we meet again, Go ahead, Put your Head on my shoulder among many others always have a significant episode(s) that highlights the celebration of this event too.
"What does the event bring to the movie, and is this something that you would like to attend. Why or why not?"
This holiday, as I have noticed in subsequent dramas focuses on family gatherings where the holiday is celebrated with family and loved ones.
It is also a symbol of spring, which represents the transition from winter to spring, symbolizing new beginnings and fresh starts. And not to forget the tradition of eating good food and sharing red envelopes with money ππ.
Well to the question of it being something I would like to attend is something, the answer is a big fat yes π€π. The reason is simple, and it is included in the mentioned explanation of the festival. I would love to be part of the Chinese New Year, although I don't agree with some of their practices such as lion dancing, zodiac signs, and honoring of ancestors.
Overall, I think it's a chill festival, and even though I'm not currently in China, I still wish people a Happy Chinese New Year π₯²β¨.
"Have you ever attended a big event, and how did it go?"
Yeah, I have. It was about 3 years ago, though. It was a huge festival in our community known as Amaigbo Day. I loved every part of it, and though I can't give a run downright now, I would say it was pretty interesting, and there was lots of food. It was a wonderful experience
. * *
My verdict about the movie would be this;
When I fly towards you, it is a delightful romantic drama with 69.9 percent unpredictability. Su zai zai wasn't that girl who would wait for a prince charming to get her. She pursued Zhang Lurang. Sometimes, I wish I had the courage to do that π₯²ππ
. It's a drama that would leave you feeling fuzzy and warm inside.
I don't know what it was about the drama, but it caught my attention.
If you're a fan of sweet, sentimental, or high-school love stories, this drama then is worth checking out. I would recommend to all, hopeless romantics or not π₯²β¨.
Thanks for your time π«Άβ€οΈπ₯°
