LAGOS BIG GIRLS - Plain underwhelming!
Here...ABOUT THE MOVIE
Ok, so! This movie titled “Lagos Big Girls” produced by Ruth Kadiri showing on her YouTube channel, highlights the intricacies of sex trafficking and the rivalry that is obtainable between two pïmps and sex syndicates.
On the one hand is Vanessa Omoruyi (as portrayed by Osas Ighodaro). She has her girls whom she gives to men, including politicians. Amongst them are Geraldine (Prisma James), Amaka (Frances Nwabunike), and Sharon (played by Onyeka Mercy).
On the other hand is Matilda (played by Frances Ben). She portrays a new pimp in town who becomes Geraldine’s new boss as she decamps! A situation that creates rancor, altercations, and some games played by Vanessa to ruin Geraldine’s marriage!
Amaka is caught in the crossfire between both groups as Tobi (Enyinna Nwigwe), who works for one of the politicians called Honorable (portrayed by Chief Ewie Aimienwanu) falls in love with her.
MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS
Firstly, I give it to Ruth Kadiri that her camera does not disappoint! I think at this point, she needs to pay the camera itself, It’s vivid, crisp, and sharp, and there is no cap!
Secondly, I would like to appreciate how much the director tried to make the storyline complicated, twisted, and brilliant.
Two persons stood out for me! Prisma James and Frances Nwabunike. They interpreted their roles perfectly. I am proud to have seen a massive improvement on Prisma’s acting skills on this one.
I absolutely loved the scene where Osas was trying to cry, but it sounded like she wanted to laugh…that was epic, albeit she struggled to deliver in some other scenes.
But that’s about it!
The movie, however, failed to deliver what it was meant to…
Let me put it this way…
Firstly, the second scene where Vanessa and Matilda exchanged words took ages. That was too long a dialogue. Ah-ah! It took an hour or so for the movie to find its rhythm.
Secondly, this movie tried to portray the fact that Amaka didn’t have any choice but to join prostitution. See, my dear young lady, you absolutely do have a million and one choices to make, okay? Ok!
All these 'runs girls' and how they call it these days…Ehen!..'Hook up' see that’s a cheap and easy way out which could end in bad, expensive results in the future.
There are a thousand and one business ideas that you can start with little or no funds. There are online businesses, laundry services, chefs, errands, skill exchange…itsssss plentyyyy! So, thou art inexcusable oh girl, oh lady, oh woman!
Thirdly, the hair was a major flop! Were the ladies sharing wigs or what? The wig one of the ladies wore at the opening scene, I was absolutely gutted.
The next scene, she wore another (which was manageable). I was like “thank goodness! And then boom, the next scene she wore the former one! In another scene, another lady was wearing that same wig.
Fourthly, what was that scene for? I mean the scene where Amaka was flogging her husband. Was that supposed to portray domestic violence metted out on men by women? Was it supposed to make us laugh?
What good did it do to the plot? I cringed at it, to be honest! Onyeka Mercy’s performance in this film did not do it for me. Most of the time, she was overacting…too much adrenaline and some other time, underwhelming!
Fifthly, don’t even get me started on the makeup. Osas Ighodaro, they did you dirty on this one…sorry! No offence…but omo! What was that? Even Onyeka Mercy’s makeup was not giving!
Lastly, what was that last scene??? No, no, no! What was that? It’s by far the most forcefully mechanical kissing scene I’ve ever seen in a movie in my entire life.
The plot could have been done without it, but no oooo, they decided to add that to ruin the little experience we were already trying to manage.
This movie could have been a whole lot better if there had been a more careful approach before execution. It felt all over the place till it started to make sense and then boom!.. It plummeted.
This film was not it for me, hence I'd leave it with a rating of 2/10.
Until next time...BYE!
I haven't watched the movie, but you know nollywood and their storyline ehnn
I don't just understand them sometimes.
