BEYOND CONTROL - Viewer's Discretion..

We’ve been asking for something fresh, and Sonia Uche said “say no more, say less!” What I didn’t expect, however, was that I wasn’t ready for this kind of “fresh' which still ended up in a 'same ol same ol’ manner…

…you know that “damsel in distress and a knight in shining armor comes to her rescue and the rest is “…yours truly” …yeah that kind.

In all honesty, the storyline, apart from its predictable ending, would have made more sense as something different if they didn’t try to want to add humor to it. This is a sensitive topic that requires a high level of sensitivity in its approach.

How do you expect viewers to laugh after a person is sexually molested and out of the blues develops an excessively unquenchable thirst for sex due to an insanely high libido ignited by the body’s response to the gravity of the assault?

That’s some awkward stuff right there, in my opinion. I felt so uncomfortable watching a greater part of the movie to be candid.

This is a mental health issue, and for any person who, in real life, has experienced the ugly ordeal of being forced against their will & subjected to such inhumane treatment, this could be a trigger Now, there were no trigger warnings at the start of the movie whatsoever to begin with.

I would have preferred it if the plot had not been directed from the angle of the assault if they wanted to make it comedy.

Although Sonia Uche delivered her role as usual, in trying to push the narrative of the story, the dialogues then appeared to have become repetitive. Kofi Adjorlolo & James Gardiner equally came through, but there were hitches here and there in execution.

  1. Why carry a patient who is experiencing a trauma induced obsession for sex to your house? What happened to the hospital?

  2. We’re made to understand that Sonia Uche’s character was striving to raise funds for her fees so as to go back to school. We also know that her dad (Kofi) is a retired Police Officer who can’t afford to send her to school yet the apartment they’re living in seemed to contradict all of these as it screams some level of luxury. Did I miss something?

The theme was exaggerated until it lost its essence. You could give a try if you so desire, and you may just like the movie.

It would have turned out amazing were it not for these flaws mentioned and the predictability of the ending. To be brutally honest, I really didn’t enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would based on the foregoing points & more.

I love Sonia Uche, but this one didn’t do it for me!
That's why I'll be rating the movie a 4/10.
Until next time...BYE!

To some of us, movies that are stop strict without a bit of humour appear extremely serious....and life shouldn't be like that. Lol😅

Nice review

I understand that, but this one dealt with a sensitive topic, so I expected humor should be toned down. Thanks.
