The Lord of the Rings - The Rings of Power makes a spectacular return! Get ready to return to Middle-earth!

Lord of The Rings fans can rejoice – the second season of Amazon's Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power is about to arrive!

The premiere is scheduled for the end of this summer, and the first 3 episodes will be released simultaneously. The next 5 will appear weekly, every Thursday, similar to the first season.

What awaits us in the new season?

Amazon promises an action-packed story with "Sauron's growing evil presence" at the fore. Recently released trailers offer a quick look at what's to come, featuring epic battle scenes, spectacular magic and familiar characters from the Lord of the Rings universe.

"Rings of Power" attracted attention not only for its captivating story, but also for its huge budget. Each episode is estimated to have cost over $100 million, making it the most expensive series in history.

To put this into perspective, Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis" cost $120 million, and "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," and "Dune: Part Two" had production budgets of $145, 100 and 190 million dollars, respectively.

Although it received a mixed initial reception from fans, "Rings of Power" managed to achieve an average rating of 7 on IMDb, a solid rating that suggests that it has managed to win over the audience.

Competition from Warner Bros.

In addition to the Amazon series, Lord of the Rings fans can also enjoy a new movie, The Lord of The Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is set to be released in 2026. The movie will be directed by Andy Serkis, the actor who played Gollum in the original trilogies.

Whether you are a long-time Lord of the Rings fan or just discovering this magical world, "The Rings of Power" promises an unforgettable experience. With an engaging story, amazing special effects and a talented cast, the second season has every chance to be a success.

(Edited)

Whatever the budget, the series was a far cry from the trilogy of LotR movies. Apart from some decent actorship here and there, and sword skills, the series is a semi cartoon of epic and spectacular CGI. Judging by the trailer, there's not going to be much change in that sense.
I do wonder what it might have all been if half of all that budget was put into collaborations with game developers and publishers such as Blizzard...

Interesting is the part where you refer to Blizzard. The legendary World of Warcraft game seems to be inspired by The Lord of the Rings - this means that Blizzard already offers us an alternative to J.R.R. Tolkien's story. At least that's what i perceive. Blizzard, from my point of view, will greatly alter the originality of Lord of the rings or The Silmarion story. The original story is much more complicated than what is exposed to us through the cinematic arts regarding Tolkien's creation !WEED !LUV !MEME

Warcraft games had similar characters to LotR and other works by Tolkien from the very beginning. Blizzard wouldn't be able to use names from those works (copyright and everything) and sure had been developing their own lore for Warcraft. At the same time, neither the LotR movies nor Amazon's show had been entirely faithful adaptations of Tolkien's work - the latter can be considered a fan fiction rather than adaptation. With that said, my line of thinking is that rather than trying to put on screen something of Tolkien that would be better than nothing at all, the collaboration between Amazon and Blizzard could have had potential to result in jointly developed franchise, ideally bringing to the screen battles and war strategies worth remembering, drawing from Blizzard's knowledge base of player experience and expectations. While it's true the Rings of Power show manage to retain Tolkien's tone to a large extent imo, it simultaneously fails with the battle scenes and design. There could have been a lot of potential to generate interest and engagement from player base of Blizzard games. This could still be a great idea for a spin-off series imo.
