First of all, the story is excellent. The novel SHOGUN is a gripping epic of power, ambition and love that explores the clash between two very different worlds: feudal Japan and modern Europe.

The series is set in Japan in the year 1600, on the verge of a civil war that will define the entire century. Hiroyuki Sanada stars as ,,Lord Yoshii Toranaga", a powerful daimyo who struggles to maintain his power. When a mysterious European ship is found abandoned in a nearby fishing village, its captain, Englishman John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), carries with him secrets that could help Toranaga tip the balance of power.

The fates of Toranaga and Blackthorne become closely intertwined with their translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced race. As she serves her master amid this tense political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her new connection with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her, and her debt to her late father.

I am very interested in this series for several reasons. First, i'm curious to see how Clavell's book is adapted. The book is a literary work of art and the adaptation should be a challenge ~ especially curious to see how feudal Japan is represented. This period of Japanese history is fascinating and i think the series could provide a unique perspective on it. Second, i'm excited to see how the two worlds represented in the series intersect. The clash between feudal Japan and modern Europe is a fascinating theme and i think the series could explore this theme in a deep way.

SHOGUN has the potential to be a hit series. It has an engaging story, a talented cast and an experienced production team. I'm excited to see how the show will do and I'm sure it will be an enjoyable experience for fans of Japanese history, culture, and drama series.
