Very nice!

Here's a fun bit of trivia I learnt today :)

Don't know about you but I am a huge fan of the Borat movie, or "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" if I were to be more precise.

If you haven't watched it yet, go and watch it now, it's a hilarious mockumentary where comedian Sacha Baron Cohen pretends to be a Kazakh journalist visiting the USA. Here's a trailer of what to expect:

Anyways, back to the actual trivia.

The original movie that came out in 2006 was banned in the glorious nation of Kazakhstan, as the fictional journalist was portrayed as a misogynistic, antijew and backwards dufus. Which they considered to not be the best image for the country lol. Of course that was stupid as the film didn't portray American citizens to be any better.

However, the country did later come to its sense. After all, even bad publicity is good publicity for a country most foreigners would be unable to point on the map.

So later on instead of fighting the Borat genre they embraced it. By making the popular catch phrase "very nice" the official motto of their 2020 tourism campaign:

And that's the story of how Borat evolved from a blacklisted movie in Kazakhstan to its official face. Well, short of

Very nice!

Kazakhstan sounds like a good place to set up an off-grid homestead. Deep in the forest. Very nice.
