Upgraded is a romantic comedy, which, of course, is one of my favorite genres. It also featured one of my favorite artists, Camila Mendes. Her movies are always amazing and filled with so much drama. As expected, she did not disappoint in this one.

Upgraded tells the story of a young lady, Ana, whose ambition is to make a name for herself in the art business. She earns an opportunity to go to London with her boss, Claire, to take care of some business. She didn't know that the trip would be the start of something incredible in her life.

Plot

Ana works as an intern for an art company in New York. Due to the fact that she didn't have enough money to afford an apartment in New York, she lived together with her sister and her boyfriend, who isn't comfortable that she is staying with them.

Ana hopes to work hard and make it big in the art world some day. One day, during a crucial auction at the company, Ana discovers an error that could be devastating for the company. She found a way to inform her boss, Claire, who dealt with the problem before it could cause any issue. Claire was very impressed with Ana for this, but she didn't show it.

The next morning, Ana got a call from Claire asking her to be her assistant and go with her to London. Ana immediately went to the airport where Claire's other two assistants, Suzette and Renee, were waiting for her. They didn't like Ana, probably because they thought she was trying to take their job. They intentionally booked an economy flight which was slated to take off 4 hours later. On seeing the bad treatment being given to Ana, the airport official who was in charge of checking in decided to upgrade Ana to first class. This came with some luxury packages as she got a spa treatment. While she tried to answer a call in the spa, she bumped into Will, spilling her drink on him.

They sat next to each other on the plane where they got talking. Will tells Ana that he came to New York for a job interview. Ana tells him she's into the art business. Will wrongly assumes that Ana is the boss in her company and Ana decides not to correct him. On getting to London, Ana got to meet Will's mother, Catherine. Catherine likes her immediately and invites Ana to her party.

Claire observed how hard Ana worked and liked her. Ana always seemed to get things done.

Ana attends the party, pretending to be her boss, Claire. She and Catherine got close, and she realizes that Catherine is the secret individual who was supposed to sell some expensive, rare art collections to her company.

Ana and Will hung out more, and they fell in love. Their romance was a beautiful one. Will coached a children's football team, and Ana saw how sweet Will was with the kids. Perhaps that contributed to her falling for him. Eventually, everything blew up in Ana's face. She had a fight with Will. Catherine decided she no longer wanted to sell her art collections. Ana's company found out she impersonated Claire, and is probably the reason why Catherine no longer wanted to sell the art collection.

Claire gets sacked and has nowhere to go. She eventually decided to go to Catherine who, to Ana's surprise, understood her and was impressed that she had the guts to do what she did. Catherine also explains to Ana that she would still sell her art collections to Ana's former company; pretending to pull out was only a business strategy to drive the prices higher.

Eventually, Catherine insists that Ana must be in charge of the auction for the art collections and the company has no choice but to accept. Ana also puts Claire in charge of the process, repaying Claire's faith in her. The auction was successful and Ana made a fortune from it.

Months later, Ana got her own art gallery, receiving support from Claire. Will shows up at her gallery, and they make up.

My thoughts

I love the acting in this movie. Camila Mendes did proper justice to her character. Same as the other actors. The plot twist is also impressive. Everything was going well for Ana, and then it came crashing down for her, before taking another upturn for her. I also like the love that blossomed between Will and Ana. It is the typical boy meets girl story.

In addition, I love Catherine's character. In my opinion, she is so many things in one. She is jovial and very lovely. It's difficult not to like Catherine. She is the life of the party. She is business smart. Pulling the stunt she pulled with the art company is some top-level intelligence.
