Hello, Movie lovers...? How did you spend your weekend yesterday? Is the weather nice where you are? Hope you're healthy and happy wherever you are...

Actually, I fall into the category of people who like almost all genres, but what often attracts me is the science fiction genre. Maybe it's because I've been used to watching this genre since my school days. One of them is of course films with the premise of space missions. One of my favourites is Christopher Nolan's Insterstellar, which was released ten years ago.

However, in my head I still remember how the astronauts moved from one galaxy to another just to look for planets with the possibility of human habitation. Not to mention Noolan's visualisation of cosmic imagery, which is undeniable.

However, this time I watched a sci-fi film from Korea called The Moon which was released in August last year.

The Moon

The story begins when Korea's space agency wants to land its first space ship and be second only to America. KASC (Korean Space Agency) wants to sample the soil at the centre of Shackleton crater, which is the darkest crater at the far point of the moon, or what experts call a crater at the south pole of the moon.

After a failed mission five years ago due to the shuttle exploding and killing the crew, this time, KASC is trying again with strong conviction and confidence due to a more sophisticated aircraft upgrade and well-prepared crew candidates, including: Lee sang-Won (Kim Rae-Won), Choo Yoon-Jong (Lee Yi-Kyung), and Hwang Seon-Woo.

crews

During the mission using the aircraft named Uri, two crew members, Lee Sang-Won and Choo Yoon-Jong, died due to an explosion caused by a leak in the fuel storage room. Also, due to bouncing and punctured material on the solar panel.

After the death of his two colleagues, Hwang Seon-Woo, who had experienced trauma, was unable to control his aircraft and stayed in space, however, with the help of the former chief director of the previous mission, Seon-Woo finally wanted to move and follow instructions to successfully land on the moon.

The Responsibility of Space Story

Perhaps I had too many expectations about the visuals of celestial objects and unexpected special events such as the catastrophic scene of metre rain while Seon-Woo was still in the middle of a dark crater.

The fatal mistake that dimmed the tension of the film was when the two crew members died at the beginning of the film at 30 minutes. In people's logic, there is always someone who comes back even if it's one from any battlefield. That's what made me so confident that the only remaining astronaut would survive, and I think that made me feel no tension despite the critical condition when the craft was in danger of not being able to ascend to a point near the moon.

After all, why would such a beautiful cosmic ideal be missed? I assume it was because of the lack of budget for the film? Honestly, this film is a disappointment.

In terms of suspense, I can only rate it 5.5/10.

However, even so, this film did highlight the emotional side of all the players from the beginning. It can be seen from the narrative that crew member Hwang Seon-Woo took the risk of volunteering because he was motivated by his father who was a team failure on a previous mission. In order to redeem the guilt of his father who hid the dirty secret of the mission failure.

Summary

If you're a fan of the Sci-Fi genre and want to try watching The Moon I say go ahead, but I need to remind you, don't put too much expectation. But that's all just in my opinion, everyone has their own references so, it's okay to express your opinion.

Thank you for reading my review, I hope it helps. Happy watching!

It is always a challenge to balance the action with the depth of the story. Good review!
