Before Sunrise Movie Review (1995)

In my opinion, a pair of foreign men and women who meet and chat comfortably is dangerous. Why? Because in a comfortable and connected chat there is intimacy. Surely both of them are connected to each other at that moment. There must be hope in their hearts about 'long time they want to spend together'. Some even say that one comfortable chat can make a pair of people end up in bed. Yes, I think I agree.

Like the story of a pair of people who met on the train. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delply) accidentally met and chatted because their seats were opposite each other. It started with both of them being disturbed by a married couple who were arguing.

Jesse reluctantly and shyly then asked Celine to move to the restaurant car so they could have lunch and chat more comfortably. Oddly enough, Celine agreed, then the two of them moved to the restaurant car.

Although at first the purpose of stopping both of them was different, however, because they were both comfortable to continue chatting, Jesse asked Celine not to continue to her final destination, and asked her to accompany him all night in Vienna. Jesse promised that he had no plans to stay at a hotel, because Jesse's next flight was tomorrow morning.

After considering for a while, Celine finally agreed and the two of them went around Vienna. All day until all night, they continued to go around and chat comfortably. The dynamics of Jesse and Celin's relationship in one night made me keep thinking, both of them had fallen in love since at the restaurant table.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Jesse (Ethan Hawke)

In my personal opinion, Jesse is the type of man who easily makes advances to women. Apart from the fact that Celin is indeed beautiful, but from Jesse's gestures and the way he directs the conversation, of course he is indeed used to words. If I imagine being Celine, maybe I would also be interested in Jesse.

Celine (Julie Delpy).

Beautiful and polite. That was the first impression I saw from Celine's character. From the beginning, Celine's character was indeed highlighted by reading books. So, as a reader, of course Celine will easily connect with many topics opened by Jesse. Because Jesse is also a writer. What I don't like about Celine is, she is like a people pleaser who has never said anything to the person she is talking to. Here it can be seen from the beginning of the invitation to the restoration, the invitation to go down in Vienna, even every time they exchange opinions and she disagrees with Jesse, she will still try to understand the difference of opinion.

SUMMARY

This is a film that was released in 1995, but I watched it again because I wanted to repeat the story between Jesse and Celine. Do you believe that when we watch the same film in different phases of life it will give birth to different perceptions too? I am that person.

I used to watch this film and felt fine, but yesterday when I watched it again I really felt disturbed by several things.

But this movie is good to watch to see the dynamics of a relationship between a man and a woman. Thank you for reading my writing. See you in my next writing.

This is definitely a valentine's movie! Awesome trilogy as well. It's interesting your take on Jesse. He's really good with words. That takes some practice

It's true what you say about intimacy with strangers in chats, but I've experienced it as well while traveling. Meeting someone abroad, like Jesse and Celine do, creates some sort of connection so quickly it might feel exciting but it also might be dangeorus.
I love these movies (the trilogy) and I've seen the first one many, many times. It's one of my favorite romantic movies ever. Thank you for bringing it here.
Great post.
