The Mother (2023) - Netflix - Review
Movie time
I have been watching several tv shows lately or keeping myself busy with some episodes of shows here and there to kill the evening time. Last week I was browsing Netflix when it showed two new releases on the top left, one of them was "The Mother" and the other one was the trailer of "Anna Nicole Smith, you don't know me" documentary that would be released the next day. I watched the trailer and decided this would be on the next day's watchlist while we'd watch "The Mother" with Jennifer Lopez today. It turned out to be a great choice.
Jennifer Lopez
Now you can think all you want about Miss Lopez, some hate her some love her, I personally always loved her music and when I learned about her roles in movies, I slowly started to appreciate her as an actress too. Maybe this is also because she played roles that I could relate to like the one where she was abused by her husband and learned how to kickbox to empower herself. I've been there too. Either way, I have seen plenty of movies where I thought she played a good role and therefore I usually watch her movies by default when I find them.
Jennifer plays a tough role
I didn't even watch the trailer of this movie before I started watching. I will include the trailer below so you can watch it though. Jennifer plays a very tough lady who was a sniper in the army if I remember correctly. She was recruited by a bad guy who she got involved with later after she first worked for someone else. You could say she played a dangerous game on a high level with two guys that are involved in selling weapons from the army. Of course, this means she's betraying their trust, and these things are usually bound to go wrong at some point.
The Mother
While being in talks for witness protection by the FBI, the mother is telling the two agents that they are not safe there and that the guy they want knows where they are. They don't believe her until some people in the room are shot and die on the spot. Only one agent, William, is still alive and she helps him to stay alive. She places a trap inside to kill her ex, but this doesn't quite work out as she hoped. She ends up in the hospital and while her baby survives the attack she just suffered trying to take out her ex, the baby is taken away from her by the FBI. William promises to let her know when there's trouble and keep her updated about the girl growing up.
He keeps his promise, more than a decade later, they are partnering up to keep the girl safe. How this works out, you will have to see for yourself.

This movie is a great choice, without a doubt I saw it and it is one of the Jenifer Lopez movies that I like, it has been one of my favorites as well as the kickboxing movie you are talking about, they are the two movies I like of hers.
