Why I Can't Stand Reality TV Shows

Scrolling through Hive communities and saw this community. Perfect timing because I just don't know if I can really take keeping this to myself.

I'm talking about reality TV shows man, that strange force that has penetrated our screens and brainwashed us.

Reality TV has dominated the airwaves with its cringe-worthy dating shows and melodramatic competitions, leaving me with a sense of existing in some warped parallel dimension where sanity and substance are lacking.

First things first; let’s address the elephant in the room: there’s no reality in reality TV. This is contrary to what its name implies.

Let's be honest here guys, it is definitely not real. It is simply an orchestrated circus of manufactured drama, fake conflicts as well as no-holds-barred self-promotion under the guise of genuine human experience. What pisses me off the most is how young guys and girls live life expecting that same drama they watch on TV.

Love, fame or money; these contestants always have but one destination for their desires: a glorified show that diverts people’s attention away from honest feelings or valuable narratives.

However, what really gets on my nerves about reality TV is how it celebrates and rewards humans’ worst behavior.

Reality TV, rather than being a source of inspiration and motivation, likes to capitalize on sensationalism, scandal and schadenfreude. It is filled with mere feuds among friends, traitorous alliances and shameless acts meant for attention seeking all covered in a bright packaging that brings with it cheap entertainment.

Additionally, reality TV does not make any attempts at educating its audience about toxic gender, racial and sexuality portrayals that dominate the industry as well as perpetuate harmful stereotypes while upholding damaging norms.

Yet perhaps the most maddening thing about reality TV is how empty it really is. Instead of dealing with complicated matters or presenting themes that call for deep reflection on various issues; this genre simply offers brainless escapism just like time wasters and mind numbing displays.

In fact, one can liken reality shows to the empty calories which are unsavoury yet flashy addictive but still lack essential nutrients necessary for good health.

Despite all these things however, we remain transfixed in its glare; hypnotized by fictionalized conflicts and fictitious depictions of life.

But I will have no part in this nonsense cultural retrogression into averageness gone mad. Therefore reality television is seductive as it may be in massive numbers with its promise of providing something beyond what you would expect from ordinary life; my mind remains unyielding to such emptiness. It’s not that I claim innocence but I refuse to enjoy myself at the expense of my principles or values.

Then, what are the alternatives? How can we begin to regain our self-esteem and good judgment that have been taken away by reality television?

When it begins with turning off the TV or tuning into our own lives, even if they are chaotic, imperfect and more meaningful than any of the screens in this world.

It means finding media that will let us think, move forward and become better citizens rather than killing our creativity until we lose ourselves.

However, above all else, it means accepting that reality TV is not mere entertainment – rather it’s a sign of a serious cultural unease where spectacles triumph substance; surface beats sincerity while sensationalism displaces empathy.

Thus far these hidden messages have kept us in chains to empty dreams and meaningless illusions brought about by reality shows.

Therefore, let us rise above reality TV and return to normalcy. We ought to do better both individually and collectively. In fact, at the end of day we must realize that the only important facts are those which we generate for ourselves; realities full of genuineness, credibility and cordiality.

  • Reality TV Shows is not real, don't expect that same drama in real life, it's gonna. I'm speaking to Gen Z folks😂
