Before I start a review of this movie, I have a question for you, which is, if you were a guy's, for instance, and you had a lady that made you rise to stardom and along the way you met a lady that linked you to more people that connected you and your arr now looking to get married, who would you have gone for between the two parties? This is one of the questions this movie left me with, and I have my answers already, but I want to hear your own view on this.

"The Real Us," a 2021 Nigerian romantic comedy, is more than just an ordinary movie. It captivates a wide range of friendships, self-discovery, love commotion, sudden fame, and many others packed into a movie that entertains the audience. This movie is directed by Kayode Peters and produced by Mimi Bartels. The movie talks about Nnamdi (who is Alexx Ekubo), a security guard whose dreams of stardom take flight after a singing video goes viral, and her bestie helps him enter a TV show contest, which helped him.
Nnamdi experiences the exciting feeling of becoming famous, but also starts to feel disappointed as he realizes the challenges that come with success. He enjoys being in the spotlight but ignores his loved ones, especially his best friend Simi, played by Bimbo Ademoye. Simi's story is interesting too, as she tries to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer while seeing Nnamdi's quick success and worrying that she's being left behind. The chemistry between them on screen is strong, making their close friendship and eventual conflicts seem real.
"The Real Us" goes beyond the usual romantic comedy story. It explores the challenges of relationships and the downsides of seeking fame. It reminds us that success can have its drawbacks, and being true to oneself is important. Nnamdi's journey makes him rethink his priorities, and Simi's story shows the struggles of pursuing dreams while dealing with societal expectations and pressure to fit in.

The movie is great because it has a story we can all relate to, amazing acting, and cool technical stuff. The camera work shows the busy vibe of Lagos and the difference between Nnamdi's tough life before fame and his fancy new life. The music, a mix of Afro beats and soulful tunes, fits well with the movie's emotions and makes the story even better.
The Real Us" reveals the true gems: family bonds, community spirit, and the everyday joys found in ordinary life. This Nigerian film digs deep into relatable struggles and triumphs, offering a heartwarming escape from the usual hustle and bustle
"This movie is a real gem! Even though it's over two hours long, it's so captivating you won't even notice the time flying by. The characters are incredible, the acting is superb, and the story keeps you completely hooked. There's something for everyone in this film, from action and suspense to humor and heart. You'll be glued to the screen until the very end, eager to see how it all unfolds. I was so engrossed that I didn't even realize the movie was over until the credits rolled! Trust me, this is one you won't want to miss.
Rating this movie, I would rate it 8 out of 10
While the film tackles serious topics about mental health and fame, it's sprinkled with humor, which makes it easier for a wider audience to connect with the story. The supporting actors, especially Timini Egbuson and Ebele Okaro, bring their characters to life in a way that adds richness and complexity. Ultimately, "The Real Us" sparks important discussions about these issues, making it a thought-provoking and engaging watch for any Nollywood movie lover
