Ready or Not(2019) || A Thrilling Find

IMG_2972.jpeg

I like how brave I have become. I now watch horror/gory films without flinching or trying to hide my face. Recommended by the same TikToker that recommended the one I previously reviewed, I didn’t know what to expect from this one especially considering that its title doesn’t give off a single idea about its content. Although disappointed with her previous recommendation, I decided to give this one a try. Guess what? I got premium satisfaction. Lol.

Synopsis

Grace (Samara Weaving) is about to marry into the ultra wealthy Le Domas family, known for their successful board game empire. On her wedding night, she is invited to take part in a long-standing family tradition where she has to choose a game at random to play. To her horror, the game she picks is Hide and Seek, but this particular one, isn’t the harmless childhood version.

Unbeknownst to Grace, the Le Domas family believes they must hunt and kill her before dawn as part of a sinister pact made generations ago. Armed with antique weapons and a rooted sense of tradition, the family turns the luxurious mansion into a deadly battlefield and Grace, in her wedding dress, must fight for survival.

My Thoughts?

Horror-comedies that blend gore, satire and dark humor are a rare but thrilling find and I'm glad I came across this one. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, this film delivers a bloody and wildly entertaining twist on the “final girl” trope. With its sharp wit, suspense and of course a standout performance from Samara Weaving, trust me, it is a refreshing take on survival horror with a delightfully twisted sense of humor.

It impressed me with its ability to balance tension, gore, and humor seamlessly. I was given exactly what I expected after I looked through its genre. Samara Weaving is phenomenal as Grace. She brings the perfect mix of vulnerability, determination, and sheer rage. Her transformation from a joyful bride to a blood-soaked survivor is both thrilling and satisfying to watch.

The film doesn’t hold back on violence, and the kills are creatively brutal, yet often laced with dark humor so you won’t really get the feeling of disgust or want to puke.
The Le Domas family, while undeniably sinister, are also hilariously inept at their own murderous tradition, which adds to the film’s comedic charm.

One of the strongest aspects of this film is its satirical take on wealth and privilege. The Le Domas family is a caricature of the ultra rich, willing to do anything(including murder) to maintain their status. The film cleverly critiques the idea of generational power and entitlement, making Grace’s fight for survival feel all the more rewarding.

In conclusion, this film is a fast-paced thrill ride that expertly blends horror and comedy. I absolutely enjoyed its plenty of gruesome fun, and I absolutely recommend it for fans of dark humor and survival horror as it delivers a wildly entertaining and satisfying experience.

Rating? Oh, definitely a 4.5/5.
It is a wickedly good time that doesn’t take itself too seriously but keeps you hooked from start to finish. Check it out when you can and thank me later.

I watched this a long while ago and you so beautifully described it’s tale that I wish neither to add nor take away any words from it. I enjoyed it as well. I love horror movies and dislike unnecessarily bloody and gury movies but this indeed stands out differently and is oddly satisfying.
