Doukyuusei (Classmates) --- was simple yet makes you smile! (BL Movie)

I was in two minds whether to make this as my second school anime entry or not, but for the love of BL, I decided to share this one. What I'm talking about is a BL animated film which was released in 2016. It's entitled DOUKYUUSEI which translates to Classmates in English.

This film is originally from a manga by Nakamura Asumiko. The manga was also really good and it has a very interesting sequel called Sotsugyousei which translates to Graduates. I'd love to see it animated too! Ohh well, let's focus on Doukyuusei for now.

Rihito Sajou is someone we can call a "model student". He's very diligent, studious and has excellent grades so his teachers like him. He studies in an all-boys school and one day his class was forced to participate in the upcoming chorus festival that's going to be held in their school.

He's not good at reading music scores, so the diligent straight-laced student stayed behind their classroom to practice the song by himself when one of his classmates suddenly showed up.

Hikaru Kusakabe, a carefree and basically the opposite of Sajou, is the classmate who suddenly appeared while Sajou was practicing alone. Since Kusakabe belongs to a band, he's pretty much familiar with music scores and the like, so he volunteered to help his classmate. At first, he found it amusing to see a different side to this perfect high school student from his class.

As they spent more time together, they grew closer to each other. Despite them being opposites, they got along pretty well. Now, what will happen to these two? Feel free to watch the anime! haha

When I watched this movie for the first time years ago, I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. I re-watched it today, and I still got the same reaction as I did back then.

The story is pretty simple... it's not the deep kind of stories that I really enjoy watching. This one's more of a feel-good and refreshing type of movie. It has this distinct art style where the background is really light while the characters are pretty focused, so you can clearly see their every expression.

The soundtrack and the bgm used in the film also played a role in making every scene pop-up more. I must say this movie is more character-focused. I mean, it gave more emphasis on the characters themselves rather than the actual plot (I must say... the characters are the plot!). It's quite unique, so it's amusing that it's a bit difficult to explain! How the characters were built up made the movie so much better.

The movie is just an hour long, so if you get the chance, feel free to watch it. But then again, it's BL, so I don't expect everyone to like it. :) If you're curious enough, then I'd be happy to recommend it.
