Early morning at the port

Early morning at the port

Good Morning and wishing you a good day

Today I will share a few shots from an early morning walk at the port.

But before getting to the photos I want to ask a question, do you find you get out more for walks or taking photos in a particular season, or less in a season

for me I dont think there is a season I get out more, perhaps spring, as to answer the second of my questions i get out less in winter, now in my 60s it sees each year I feel the cold more, where maybe 10 years ago I would head out in any temp with layer son I was fine, but now once winter hoits I find myself getting out less if the temp is near or below freezing no matter how many layers i put on I find it to cold for me and stay happy well happy ish as I do miss takingphotos but happy and warm

OK now onto the photos

a few of the commercial fishing boats docked here at the port in New Bedford

there sure are a lot of commercial fishing boats here, back in the day New Bedford was a huge whaling port and one of if not the richest city inthe world, it has sure dropped down the richest list but is still a busy fishing port

Today the Port of New Bedford/Fairhaven is the largest fishing port in the northeast, and has been the nation's most valuable fishing port for the past sixteen years
I could not find recent numbers but I did find that

New Bedford ranked No. 1 for the value of seafood landed at its port for the 20th consecutive year in 2019, with $451 million worth of fish hauled in by its boats.

Some more of the commercial boats

Beautiful shots. I totally understand what you are saying about not wanting to go out in the cold. It can be brutal and it just isn't worth it as much as I get older.

avatar

exactly, I was feeling the cold already more each year, but I have found since the surgery earlier this year I am feeling it even more
MY wife used to feel it more and wear a jumper inthe house while i was fine, now I am first to put a sweatshirt on LOL

avatar

:) it's definitely brutal. Let's just hope the polar vortex avoids us this year!

Last couple of years the long range forecasts for winter were for it to be harsh and it was mild, this year the long range forecasts were for mild so lets see what we get

avatar

Haha, yeah, I hear you! It's funny just how wrong they can be!

It's cool to see all of those boats, and makes me glad I'm not a commercial fisherman for a living. That's a rough life, some days you can make a fortune and other days come back almost empty handed. Plus the waves, storms and sea sickness. Hard pass... I love the pictures, that first one has such great balance and the beauty of the early morning. How's have the last few days been in the early hours?

avatar

You did very well my brother, this picture you shared is really amazing

avatar

The best thing I've seen today.... It looks really beautiful, there are so many ships and in my opinion there are no traces of pollution, although I guess there must be some...

A big hug brother, God bless you!

All seasons are good for walking and photography. But it's true that in November, just before winter really sets in on Montreal, it's less pleasant to go out in the cold and damp.
Another great selection of photos... Have a great day

Thanks for sharing those gorgeous photos! I grew up in a fishing town in Scotland. My dad, and all the men in our family from at least the 1600s were deep sea fishermen, but the fishing industry there has been ruined since the entry to EU many years ago. The rich waters around the coast no longer belonged to Scotland, but to the whole EU! Brexit didn’t solve anything though, as the damage had already been done. That’s all another story - maybe a blog post for me?

In answer to your question, I walk far less in the heat and humidity of Florida summers than I do for the rest of the year! I’m in my late seventies now, so can’t tolerate the humidity! I love this time of year for walking here!

Nice shots. I never tire of the brightly colored boats. I get out more in the summer for sure. There are days that the cold weather keeps me in. Also days that are icy and I just don't want to deal with it.
