On The Wagon

In a couple days, Conflicts start on Splinterlands. These are the new mechanism for getting access to bonus cards. Previously, they were dropped based on the number of packs bought, but this new mechanism essentially means that an account has to not only buy, but also hold what they have bought, if they want to have a chance at earning extra cards.

This post is me working out what I am going to do.

I bought 2306 packs Rebellion packs, which was about 1000 packs short of being able to max a deck. However, it did leave me with some extras. These I am going to put into wagons. This is a total of 466 cards, 101 wagons.

RarityCountCP
Gold Foil Legendary9112,500
Gold Foil Epic1537,500
Gold Foil Rare13969,500
Gold Foil Common30337,875
Legendary singles4221,000
Total278,375

101 wagons = 5050 vouchers. I bought vouchers a couple months ago, based on the suggestion of @azircon. I didn't know how many I would need, so I just bought a stack of them, plus I earn some each day from license and staking rewards.

image.png

But, then, I was just reading something I had forgotten.

Cards actively participating in a Conflict are available for play in brawls, tournaments, and ranked play.

Cool. This means that I can use my Rebellion playing cards also. So now, I have 645 cards to put into wagons, and a total of 537,880 CP to stake into wagons. This changes how many wagons I need of course, which means I will have to spend more vouchers. Lucky I bought enough, though I don't need as many as I have bought. The playing cards only mean I need another 28 wagons, as they hold 5 cards each. This gives a total of 129 wagons to carry all my Rebellion holdings.

6250 VOUCHERS

No. Mage Wagons are usable throughout the entire series of Conflicts.

I just asked in a chat - then read this.

There are three components of a Mage Wagon:
Contribution Rank - A visual indicator of this wagon's overall "power". Slot higher quality cards to reach greater ranks!
Contribution Total - The total Contribution value of all cards slotted in this wagon.
Card Slot - Each card's Contribution value is based on the number of copies combined, Rarity, and Foil type of the card. Combine your cards to optimize wagon performance!

I can't find anything on contribution ranks - anyone know what it means?

So, the calculation for contribution and chances at cards is:

(CP x hours left in the Conflict)/100,000 = Chances

Let's assume a 30 day Conflict and I am in at hour one, so that is 720 hours staked.

537,880 x 720/100,000 = 3,872 chances.

But,

For every 200 chances, 1 card is guaranteed.

That means that if that scenario is as is, I would be "guaranteed" 19 cards, plus whatever my chances get. I have no idea what 3,872 chances can expect to get out of this.

Any ideas?

So, that is as far as I have got so far with Conflicts, but I think that it is looking about right. I have my Vouchers ready, I am not renting Rebellion, (other than a couple) and I guess, all I have to do is wait until the 23rd and hope I don't

Fall off the wagon.

I think that this is an interesting mechanism for card distribution, but I am not sure if it is worth all the hassle yet. I guess that time will tell, but I am interested in seeing how it goes and whether people like the idea or not.

Splinter thoughts?

I'm going to be lucky if I can even fill one wagon. I have the vouchers so I will likely buy one even if it stays empty.

avatar

Might be worth buying a few. Though, vouchers are pretty cheap most days.

avatar

Yeah, I was hoping maybe this would drive the price of vouchers up. I am sitting on a couple thousand of them.

avatar

I'm woefully uneducated on Conflicts. I'm still assigning CL cards to plots. Mine'll be a last minute dash at Rebellion, too late for the airdrops.

avatar

What has held you back? Are you less engaged now?

avatar

Still very much engaged. Maybe too much. I keep deciding to retire from battles, but then I keep battling. I really want to max out all these rewards cards while I still can. Also like filling Alpha brawls for my guild.
My big concern is that I'll forever have fallow land, with cards best positioned to work my plots, priced out of reach. So every penny I pull together goes into buying these < $1 CL packs.

avatar

Ah, yeah LAND is a big one for those who hold a lot. I don't. Azir was saying how he has about 750 plots empty at the moment.

I am brawling in Modern now instead of wild, so the very few A,B, U and all my D are free.

avatar

If I may ask... and it's got nothing to do with what you were talking about🤣

But how many dollars did you pump into those packs🫣

avatar

Zero dollars. A lot of crypto.

avatar

Well it is both an investment and a fun thing to keep busy with.

avatar

I am still waiting for a tool to calculate things for me. I'll probably just wait till later and buy any VOUCHERs that I need later.

avatar

If you aren't buying that many vouchers, it isn't bad to wait.

Do my calcs look correct? These days, I often miss key points.

avatar

It looks correct to me but I could be wrong.

avatar

How many SPS can I start Splinterlands game with?
I’m really interested…
Thank you

avatar

SPS isn't needed. If you are actually interested, you will have to spend some time reading at Splinterlands.com

avatar

However, it did leave me with some extras. These I am going to put into wagons.

This ain't land! You can still play them as well as stuffing them into a wagon. They will hop out to play for you.

avatar

I added that after, didn't I?
I keep forgetting that I can play them still. Meant I needed another 28 wagons

avatar

I only wish we could rent them as well as adding them to Wagons, Rebellion cards, even at low level rent well.

avatar

I think it would make it too lucrative.

avatar

In the past we could and didn't need to use vouchers to buy these wagons. It's a case of 'things are getting worse for us, the players'.

avatar

Wow, that is a lot of cards, and vouchers. It is a good thing you're already set. I can see the price of vouchers going up for those wanting to join the Conflicts at the last minute. If you do want to maximize your points per wagon, I believe you will to to have unopened packs as well. If I'm not mistaken, Wagons can hold both cards AND packs, with packs giving additional points. I won't be joining the Conflicts so I didn't read too much about it, but I think there are a lot of guide posts regarding it. I think Zaku just posted one today.

avatar

I was looking today when I bought vouchers and it was December 2nd. They were 0.08 - now 0.13. Bit of a difference. I was expecting more.

Yeah, they are meant to have packs on them too, but I have no packs. Supposedly, each pack gives 100 points, so 100 packs is 10,000. One GFL is 12500.

avatar

Yeah. If you are lucky, a GFL is definitely better. But I've seen people complain of not getting a GFL even after 200 packs, so there's that.

avatar

You certainly do have an very nice CP pile, you'll have a max Rage and some to spare, I have a feeling you will make some decent DEC back if you sell the surplus, or rent them. Or, you compound them into the next conflict and gain even more of what will be an even rarer airdrop , and so on all the way through the full 9 airdrops. Assuming all 19 are RF, they will give you an extra 68 chances for the next airdrop.

After the third airdrop, assuming your extra chances yield nothing above the minimum of 19 you'd expect on each successive airdrop, then you will have an additional minimum ( giving you 20) on airdrop 4 and 8. Now if lady luck takes a shine to you , well who knows :-)

I'm at 70k CP now, that guarantees me 2 and I've a chance at a third to get me to lvl 2 Rage, which is my goal.

Question: I have a total of 502 chances, that guarantees me 2 and 102 "chances" left over, does that mean that I have 102 chances of a third, or do I have 502 chances of a third ?

I didn't notice the contribution rank previously, I don't know what it means, but it looks perfectly set for a title, maybe ?

There is another voucher use you may be overlooking, you can spend vouchers to increase your GF drop chance for 2% t0 4%, I believe this is a fee that will cover the increased drop chance for all your drops, and not a fee per card. I can recall the voucher cost, but it is definitely worth spending the vouchers on that too.

Like you I stocked up on vouchers early, I have plenty, and possibly some to sell into any price spike, although I think we will see more and more vouchers sinks in time, who knows maybe one day enough to be greater than voucher inflation ..lol!!, that may be a while though !

Do you know if the calculation for a guaranteed drop will remain the same during all nine drops, or will successive airdrops require more than 200 "chances" to guarantee an airdrop ?

avatar

I have a feeling you will make some decent DEC back if you sell the surplus, or rent them

I am guessing that I will sell some of them, though this is new to me. I hold almost everything! :D

Or, you compound them into the next conflict and gain even more of what will be an even rarer airdrop

This is more likely perhaps.

Assuming all 19 are RF, they will give you an extra 68 chances for the next airdrop.

Thanks for working that out!

Now if lady luck takes a shine to you , well who knows :-)

Luck for me on Splinterlands is not good with drops or RNG.

I'm at 70k CP now, that guarantees me 2 and I've a chance at a third to get me to lvl 2 Rage, which is my goal.

Nice. It will be interesting to see how many take part and at what level. I am a little fish compared to some.

does that mean that I have 102 chances of a third, or do I have 502 chances of a third ?

If I remember correctly, it is only the "full 200" that guarantee. I don't think it increases chances.

but it looks perfectly set for a title, maybe ?

Good call. That makes sense, especially with Land.

There is another voucher use you may be overlooking, you can spend vouchers to increase your GF drop chance for 2% t0 4%

Yes, I didn't mention this because I don't think I will do it. I have terrible luck getting GFLs under any conditions.

who knows maybe one day enough to be greater than voucher inflation ..lol!!, that may be a while though !

A while indeed!

Do you know if the calculation for a guaranteed drop will remain the same during all nine drops, or will successive airdrops require more than 200 "chances" to guarantee an airdrop ?

This I do not know. I am guessing it should remain the same, since it wasn't mentioned earlier, but that also means that more cards will be printed later, right?

I'm all for another voucher sink.

avatar

All the best in the Conflicts! I don't have much Rebellion assets so I would give this a miss. Initially I mis-read and thought we could stake all sorts of cards but I was wrong lol!

I think it's a good incentive for the "whales" to earn something out of this but it is not so meaningful for smaller players, which is fine. There's more than enough stuff in the ecosystem for players to occupy our time already hehe!
