IRISH WISH MOVIE REVIEW
In this review, I want to talk about romantic comedy films that aired this year. Talking about romantic comedies, surely anyone will give the impression that the film we are watching is quite light and entertaining. Here is Lindsay Lohan's second project with Netflix that was warmly welcomed by the audience.
ORIENTATION
The story begins with female protagonist Maddi Kelly (Lindsay Lohan) working as a host writer and script editor for up-and-coming writer Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos).
Later on, due to work attachment and closeness as work partners, Maddie develops a crush on Paul and plans to reveal her feelings during the release of the latest book they are working on together.
In the event, Maddie is not alone, she is also accompanied by her two best friends Heather (Ayesha Curry) and Emma Taylor (Elizabeth Tan).
Unfortunately, the plan to reveal Maddie's feelings for Paul was hampered because Paul actually fell in love with one of Maddie's best friends, Emma.
On the day of Paul and Emma's wedding, everyone flies to Ireland, the hometown of the wealthy Kennedy family.
Maddie, who was devastated to be left behind by the man she loved, sat brooding under a tree by the lake. As she utters her wish to marry Paul, the famously holy Saint Brigita appears in Ireland, and the next day Maddie wakes up in a room as Paul's bride-to-be.
However, during the process of becoming Paul's bride-to-be as she wishes, Maddie feels like she doesn't belong there. She doesn't seem to love Paul and feels like all his behaviour is weirdos.
CHARACTERISTICS
- MADDIE KELLY (Lindsay Lohan)
Playing the role of editor and writer, Maddie is a person who is not very confident in what she believes in. She also cannot rationally look at a problem if it is related to the person she loves. Paul.
Actually, I don't think Lindsay Lohan is suitable to play a romantic comedy like this. I feel that she is too old to pursue a character that is only about love in her mid-thirties. However, the film is still enjoyable.
- PAUL KENNEDY (Alexander Vlahos)
Paul Kennedy is an up-and-coming writer with a very petty nature. He tends to capitalise on the intelligence of Maddie's ideas, and adds Maddie's name only as an editor. As a man, Paul also has an air of superiority because he feels he has wealth, fame, good looks, and a family that fully supports him. He expects the woman he mentions to continue to be understanding to Paul without doing otherwise. \
There are many annoying scenes of Paul treating Maddie as his future wife and not letting her take her own steps or decisions.
Alexander Vlahos is decent enough to play this character. All the charisma for an arrogant and patriarchal writer is beautifully delivered by Vlahos.
INTERPRETATION
When has Ireland failed to excite and delight audiences on the screen? It's almost impossible not to fall in love with a place as beautiful as Ireland. The quiet villages, beautiful landscapes, and the famous Cliffs of Moher are irresistible to audiences.
Even though it is packed with light, Irish Wish still has a moral message. How do we deal with reality, how do we have perspective when something we want doesn't come to us. How do we read the signs, how do we better understand ourselves about what we really need. What are we chasing, and what are we chasing for.
It's also about assertiveness and stopping being a self-defeating people pleaser. It's all beautifully and hilariously packaged in Irish Wish.
SUMMARY
Looking for something you can watch comfortably with your partner? Irish Wish can be on your watching list. Aside from bonding more closely with your beloved, you can also share your understanding through this film that you can watch on Netflix. So, happy watching and eat your popcorn!
