¿Esto podría considerarse como la película de un videojuego? Supondré que sí. Recuerdo haber visto esta película en la cartelera del cine, obviamente el título iba a llamarme la atención, era una película sobre Calabozos y Dragones, el juego de rol más popular del mundo. La verdad es que nunca lo he jugado pero tenía una clara idea de lo que me iba a encontrar, obviamente una historia basada en una partida, usualmente los medios audiovisuales que usan a D&D como referencia hacen eso, recuerdo haber visto por acá en esta comunidad que hablaron sobre una serie animada que también se basaba en esta premisa, una historia recogida a partir de una partida. Y es que tengo entendido que las posibilidades son infinitas en éstas partidas, las cuales incluso pueden tornarse largas y eternas (tengo entendido que los jugadores deciden cuándo terminar), durando muchísimo en el tiempo, además de que está la posibilidad de que se pueden retomar en cualquier momento en el que los jugadores deseen. Lo que más me gusta de D&D a pesar de no haber jugado es la estética medieval y de que hay distintas clases de personajes, cada uno especializándose en algo, ver un equipo diverso siempre es atrapante. Así que bueno, hablemos de esta interesante propuesta de parte de Paramount.

Could this be considered as a movie from a videogame? I'll assume so. I remember seeing this movie in the cinema, obviously the title was going to catch my attention, it was a movie about Dungeons and Dragons, the most popular role-playing game in the world. The truth is that I've never played it but I had a clear idea of what I was going to find, obviously a story based on a game, usually the audiovisual media that use D&D as a reference do that, I remember seeing here in this community that they talked about an animated series that was also based on this premise, a story collected from a game. And I understand that the possibilities are infinite in these games, which can even become long and eternal (I understand that the players decide when to finish), lasting a long time, in addition to the possibility that they can be resumed at any time the players want. What I like most about D&D despite not having played is the medieval aesthetic and that there are different classes of characters, each specializing in something, seeing a diverse team is always captivating. So well, let's talk about this interesting proposal from Paramount.

La película nos pone en la piel de Edgin, un ladrón que en conjunto con su equipo deciden robar un tesoro donde se encuentra una tablilla de resurrección, tablilla que Edgin quiere usar para revivir a su esposa pero cuando parece ir bien, todo saldrá terriblemente mal, esto al haber varias personas de las que conformaban el equipo en realidad eran traidores por lo que Edgin y Holga, terminarán en prisión durante unos dos años. Cuando consiguen salir de allí se encontrarán conque Forge el estafador ha conseguido el cargo de alcalde de una ciudad con ayuda de Sofina, una poderosa y traicionera maga, Forge ha estado cuidando a Kira la hija de Edgin, consiguiendo ponerla en contra de su padre diciéndole que la tablilla que quería conseguir en realidad era una de riqueza, haciéndolo ver como un avaro sin corazón que abandonó a su hija por dinero. Edgin va a planear otro robo, reuniendo a varios miembros de su viejo equipo y algunos nuevos, todo con el objetivo de recuperar y demostrar que la tablilla es de resurrección para también llevarse a su hija devuelta con él y Holga. Una historia llena de magia y aventura en todo momento, conteniendo varios plot twist que probablemente ocurrirían en una partida normal de D&D.

The movie puts us in the shoes of Edgin, a thief who together with his team decide to rob a treasure where a resurrection tablet is located, a tablet that Edgin wants to use to revive his wife but when it seems to go well, everything will go terribly wrong, this to the fact that there were several people who made up the team were actually traitors so Edgin and Holga, will end up in prison for a couple of years. When they manage to get out of there they will find that Forge the swindler has managed to get the position of mayor of a city with the help of Sofina, a powerful and treacherous sorceress, Forge has been taking care of Kira, Edgin's daughter, making her turn against her father by telling her that the tablet she wanted to get was actually one of wealth, making her see him as a heartless miser who abandoned his daughter for money. Edgin is going to plan another robbery, bringing together several members of his old team and some new ones, all with the goal of recovering and demonstrating that the tablet is of resurrection to also take his daughter back with him and Holga. A story full of magic and adventure at all times, containing several plot twist that would probably occur in a normal D&D game.

Lo que más me gustó de la película sin lugar a dudas es el personaje de Simon, quien es el mago del grupo de Edgin, su desarollo es simplemente fenomenal y podría decir que al final de cierta forma se roba el show al superar todos sus miedos y cuando aprende a tener confianza en él mismo. Aunque elogiar nada más a Simon sería un ultraje de mi parte, porque cada uno de los protagonistas cumplen un papel importante y no se siente para nada que se opaquen entre ellos, más bien se complementan y de una forma excelente. Solo hay que ver cómo Edgin es capaz de ingeniar un plan y todos son capaces de seguirlo ayudándose entre ellos, aunque no todo será pan comido, veremos algunas discusiones por el camino y algunos síntomas de desconfianza cuando la esperanza parece perdida, pero recuerda siempre existe un plan B y si ese falla, hay un plan C. Y cuando parece que la película no puede mejorar, incluso hay personajes secundarios que son simplemente memorables en todo su esplendor, están hechos de forma tan característica para que sean recordados. Es una verdadera travesía de principio a fin, yendo de acá para allá, buscando objetos para llevar a cabo el plan principal, enemigos, amigos, dragones, magia, trampas y calabozos incluso algunos indicios de amor, es todo lo que cualquiera podría pedir en este caso.

The thing I liked most about the movie without a doubt is the character of Simon, who is the magician of the group of Edgin, his development is simply phenomenal and I could say that at the end of a certain way he steals the show by overcoming all his fears and when he learns to have confidence in himself. Although praising Simon would be an outrage on my part, because each of the protagonists play an important role and it does not feel at all that they are obscured among them, rather they complement each other and in an excellent way. You just have to see how Edgin is able to devise a plan and everyone is able to follow it helping each other, although not everything will be a piece of cake, we will see some discussions along the way and some symptoms of distrust when hope seems lost, but always remember there is a plan B and if that fails, there is a plan C. And when it seems that the movie can not get any better, there are even secondary characters that are simply memorable in all their splendor, they are made in such a characteristic way to be remembered. It is a true journey from beginning to end, going from here to there, looking for objects to carry out the main plan, enemies, friends, dragons, magic, traps and dungeons even some hints of love, it is everything anyone could ask for in this case.

He de admirar los paisajes que usaron para la cinta, son simplemente hermosos y maravillosos, son tan bellos que lucen fantasiosos, la ciudades se ven muy realistas y qué decir de las mazmorras, son un despliegue técnico increíble. En cuanto a los efectos visuales, al principio pensé que estarían mal (por una escena en específico) pero en realidad son una maravilla, la animaciones de los ataques mágicos y las transformaciones de los personajes se ven demasiado bien, se nota el presupuesto invertido. Creo que fácilmente es una película para cualquier persona, solo hace falta que cumpla el requisito de que le gusten las aventuras y las cosas medievales, es fascinante en todos sus aspectos. Tengo entendido que tanto para la crítica como para el público en general fue una película fenomenal en todos los sentidos aunque según entendí se esperaba un poco más de ganancias en taquilla, no sé si se podría considerar un fracaso como tal para la empresa creadora (aunque lo que me queda clarísimo que esto es una excelente promoción para los juegos de D&D y no se siente como tal, no es nada forzado) pero el producto final es precioso, si te gusta la fantasía deberías de ver esta película sí o sí.

I must admire the landscapes they used for the movie, they are simply beautiful and wonderful, they look so beautiful they look like fantasy, the cities look very realistic and what can I say about the dungeons, they are an incredible technical display. As for the visual effects, at first I thought they would be bad (for a specific scene) but they are actually wonderful, the animations of the magical attacks and the character transformations look too good, you can see the budget invested. I think it's easily a movie for anyone, you just need to meet the requirement that you like adventure and medieval things, it's fascinating in every way. I understand that both for the critics and for the public in general it was a phenomenal movie in every way although I understand that a little more box office revenue was expected, I do not know if it could be considered a failure as such for the company that created it (although what is very clear to me is that this is an excellent promotion for D&D games and does not feel like it, it is not forced at all) but the final product is precious, if you like fantasy you should see this movie yes or yes.
