MERCY (MOVIE REVIEW)

I love movies that highlight real-life issues especially those issues that people shy from talking about.

You know, among the myriad of issues affecting marriages today is libido incompatibility. And i think that, to believe that some spiritual leaders do not have sėxual fantasies is to be in denial.

This movie, 'Mercy' written and produced by ChinneyLove Ezeh, snd streaming on her YouTube channel highlights the struggles of Pastor Mrs. Mena Briggs and her husband Pastor Taribo Briggs as their marriage is vehemently threatened by a storm - sex.

Pastor Taribo is a devoted lover of God, a loving father to his kids, a compassionate husband to his wife, and a caring Shepherd to the flock (Church members) he tends to. Pastor Mena is a calm, patient wife to her husband and mother to her children as well as everyone who comes in contact with her.

However, all isn’t well at home as many presume. There’s trouble in paradise. Pastor Taribo has an extremely wild sexual fantasy beyond what his wife, Pastor Mena, can handle. She fears for her life. She’s tired of the pretence, but Pastor Taribo pleads for more time to make amends.

Time is running out, and Pastor Mena can no longer endure. She takes a drastic action. Things would then escalate and go from bad to worse.

MY THOUGHTS

Finally! A Christian movie in recent times on this side of Nollywood that actually shows the pastor standing severally on the pulpit and preaching some real gospel/sermon to his congregation is applaudable

Although, the choir appeared to be clueless in their singing or should I say lip syncing, I can however live with that as there are some choirs like that in real life requiring a strong choir leader to shake things up.

Chioma Chukwuka and Enyinna Nwigwe both interpreted their roles to perfection. It was believable almost like a live video of some sort. The scenes where Pastor Taribo was preaching could make you think he’s a pastor in real life. It was that good.

This movie takes a different bold approach to convey its message. It is, however, subtle and respectful in its interpretation as there were no explicit sexual scenes, yet the viewer gets the perfect picture due to the style of storytelling.

See, to save yourself and/or the other person from heartbreak and unnecessary suffering, please I’d advise people to marry people who tick most of their boxes, especially the sexual aspect.

I understand that when many people especially the men who have lived their youthful life exploring and having numerous body counts want to settle down, they go for innocent looking ladies who would bear children for them(or however they put it). They then end up cheating with the ‘baddies’ outside who would satisfy their sexual cravings, thereby inflicting untold pain and even diseases on the poor woman at home.

With a runtime of 1hour 50minutes, this movie was a wee bit away from becoming boring at some point as some of the dialogues were becoming repetitive.

There were other flaws here and there, but we can excuse those and focus on the message. That is the fact that there are many broken people who have developed habits out of their brokenness and past traumas.

I know at this point, I’ll be sounding like a broken record but the truth is if we don’t make deliberate conscious efforts to break the trauma cycle, it is going to continue to pass down from generation through generations.

The fact that many of these traumas are inflicted by family members is even scarier. There’s hardly anyone to trust, especially these days when we are aware that sėxuality has greatly taken a different path. No child, whether boy or girl, is safe with either gender as an adult anymore. It’s disturbing, it’s disheartening, it’s…just SAD!

If you like how this review goes, then you should see the movie. It's a breath of fresh air.

Chioma Chukwuka is such a great actress so I know this movie would be good cause she gives perfect interpretation of her character.

Truly, this topic is one not talked about so much but it's an issue. I like the plot so I'm going to see it. Thanks for the review.

And, happy new year to you too.
