¡Hola a todos los amantes de las películas! Para nadie es un secreto que en Venezuela hace mucho tiempo que se han dejado de realizar producciones como películas y series, pero eso no hay dejado de lado que uno que otro osado, se arriesgue a lanzar su proyecto con la esperanza de levantar el cine en el país. Vi uno que otro filme interesante en el pasado del cine venezolano, películas bastante buenas y bizarras, como El pez que fuma, Retén de mujeres y La rumba de fin de mundo, pero confieso que me aparté del todo de éste tipo de producciones porque aparten de que escaseaban, los temas tratados no eran de mi interés. Sin embargo, cuando me enteré de la existencia del filme que les hablaré el día de hoy, me sentí tentada de verlo sólo por el título, ya que, siendo una otaku como tal (veo anime desde pequeña, estoy metida desde hace años en grupos, comunidades y así como en actividades como el dibujo y el cosplay), quería ver cómo un escritor retrataba un "otaku"...

Primero que nada, les hablaré acerca de la trama y luego, como siempre, les daré mi opinión personal, oculta a modo de spoiler, por si desean leerla... Toda ésta historia gira en torno a la vida de un muchacho llamado Manuel Cavalier, quien según entendí, está ya graduado y se está preparando para los exámenes que lo harán optar por una beca en el extranjero, ya que se graduó de economista y piensa en hacer una maestría o algo así. No obstante, la verdadera pasión de Manuel es el dibujo, más específicamente de mangas. Esto lo ha llevado a crear su propia historia, la cual ha llevado a un formato de cómic (porque al no ser japonés, eso es lo que sería su proyecto), bajo el nombre de "Rey de Fuego". Éste cómic él lo dibuja de forma tradicional y lo publica bajo un seudónimo en las redes, logrando obtener cierta popularidad sin darse cuenta.

Un problema con Manuel, es que no sabe cómo socializar, más específicamente, hablar con las mujeres. Esto lo lleva a sentirse mal porque toda su vida ha tenido que soportar los constantes maltratos disfrazados de su primo, así como sus burlas por dedicarse a ver anime y dibujar. Como era de esperarse, un día conoce a Eugenia Rangel, la chica otaku, modelo y que casualmente es súper fanática de su cómic online y al escuchar cual es su identidad, no duda en presentarse y en buscar de entablar migas con el chico. Manuel, se alegra de conocer a alguien interesado de forma tan efusiva en lo que él tanto ama, pero sus obligaciones con los estudios, siempre aparecen cuando él parece estar en sintonía con sus verdaderos gustos.

Cuando Eugenia le pregunta a Manuel porqué no ha seguido con la historia, Manuel le expresa que es un trabajo muy arduo que le exige mucho tiempo y que tiene que dedicarse a otras cosas más importantes. Es entonces cuando Eugenia insiste en que su proyecto también es importante y que debe seguirlo a como dé lugar e inclusive, se ofrece a ayudarlo para que siga adelante con el proyecto, inclusive, pagándole para ello. Incapaz de negarse ante la emoción de la joven y su evidente problema de ceder ante los demás, Manuel acaba aceptando su ayuda y permite que la chica vaya a su casa todos los días para trabajar en la continuación de Rey de Fuego, al tiempo que también, seguirá con los estudios. Una fórmula que poco a poco, lo irá desgastando.

De ésta forma, Manuel empieza a tener contacto con Eugenia, compartiendo con ésta peculiar chica, saliendo de su cascarón y descubriendo cuales son sus verdaderos intereses, a medida que tiene que luchar contra sus propios prejuicios, así como con las barreras que él mismo se creó a través de los años por intervención de los que lo rodean.

! [Clickear para leer mi opinion sobre la pelicula] Bien... esto va a ser largo. Primero que nada, confieso que tardé viendo ésta película casi el doble de su duración ¿Por qué? se preguntarán. Soy la clase de persona que suele lanzar comentarios a medida que ve un filme (cuando estoy en casa o viéndola online con mi novio o amigos, quienes disfrutan de mis opiniones) y por primera vez en mi vida de cinéfila, paralicé tanto una película para dar opiniones extensas de porqué, lo que estaba viendo, me parecía "bien" o "mal". Así que, dividiré mi opinión en dos partes.
LO MALO: El título, me parece muy flojo, más que nada me parece una especie de forma de llamar la atención sobre el filme, cosa que no puede hacerse con la publicidad de la misma, porque, la apariencia de Eugenia como tal, no es la de una "otaku", créanme, yo misma me visto extravagante y desde hace años he estado codeándome con muchas chicas con distintos looks basados en las culturas urbanas japonés y el look de Eugenia, en muy poco se acerca a eso. Más bien, sería vista como una "chica fresa", en nuestro entorno.
La manera en la que se describe el personaje de Eugenia, al principio me pareció el de una persona con problemas psiquiátricos y aún admitiendo que llegué a conocer chicas otakus algo "chifladas", el nivel de demencia de Eugenia, es excesivo. La forma en que abordó a Manuel y como se metió en su vida, me pareció en extremo invasivo; muy a pesar de que lo ayudase a darse cuenta de cuáles eran sus verdaderos intereses, pienso que eso no quita el hecho de que el modo en que actuó en muchos momentos, fueron "actos de locos". Creo que pudo haberse abordado el asunto de una forma menos intensa.
El tema de la madre... Al principio, podía comprender el modo en que Manuel se comportaba y encerrado, llevado por el miedo que le tenía a su progenitora, quien desde siempre, miró con malos ojos sus gustos por el dibujo. Bien... pero cuando al final, Manuel finalmente le confiesa a su madre lo que quiere y la confronta, ésta lo toma con una naturalidad tal que te hace gritar "¡¿QUÉ!?", en el acto. Quizás, era un miedo inexistente que el propio Manuel se había formado en su cabeza... pero simplemente no pude comprender cómo no pudieron crear una escena mejor en donde la progenitora debatiera con el chico su decisión y en medio del diálogo, ella fuera capaz de vislumbrar a través del coraje de Manuel al enfrentarla, que debía dejar a su hijo seguir sus sueños... Eso hubiera estado mejor que simplemente: "Mamá, ya no quiero estudiar en el extranjero, quiero dedicarme a dibujar manga"..."Bueno hijo, está bien ¿Qué necesitas? ¿Quieres que te pague un curso de dibujo?"...
Odié el personaje del primo, me parece detestable el personaje, pero a pesar de ello, hay personas que se comportan así con otras y más si son familiares, por lo que espero, fuera con intenciones de generar conciencia.
Encontrarse con unos dibujos "parecidos" en la web con los que te encuentras en la película y deseando que no fueran calcos. Así como cosas exageradas e irreales.
LO BUENO: Podría seguir hablando de lo malo que tiene la película, pero también hay que rescatar lo bueno o más bien, decente, que tiene.
El trasfondo mal trabajado de dedicarse a lo que más te apasiona. Eugenia, como mencioné, saca a Manuel de la burbuja en donde vive y le ayuda abrir los ojos, así como a aprender a dejarse llevar por sus propios deseos, en lugar de prestarle atención a lo que digan los demás. Lo cual, permite que sea feliz. Es un buen mensaje, pero bueno... es difícil pensar en eso al ver el filme en su totalidad y lo bizarro, así como incómodas que resultan algunas escenas.
Antes de ver la película, muchos amigos que la habían visto, me recomendaron no hacerlo, en pro de mi salud mental, porque no pudieron verla completa jaja pero como siempre digo, lo mejor que podemos hacer es crear nuestra propia opinión de las cosas. Ya la vi, no me gustó para nada, me sentí desubicada, quizás un poco ofendida como otaku, pero al menos me alegro de que a quienes les gustó, tengan que ver y hablar con sus amigos. Si, me sentí identificada un poco con Manuel, ya que una vez tuve la oportunidad de conocer en persona, a una fanática obsesiva de mi trabajo y actuó un poco como Eugenia. Pero del resto, nada más... Si eres una persona aventurera que tiene tiempo libre y no teme al cringe, te invito a darle una oportunidad al filme y tener tu propia opinión sobre el mismo.

I saw one or another interesting film in the past of Venezuelan cinema, quite good and bizarre films, like The fish that smokes, Retén de mujeres and La rumba de fin de mundo, but I confess that I completely distanced myself from this type of productions because apart from the fact that they were scarce, the topics covered were not of my interest. However, when I found out about the existence of the film that I will tell you about today, I was tempted to watch it just for the title, since, being an otaku as such (I have been watching anime since I was little, I have been involved in groups for years , communities and as well as in activities such as drawing and cosplay), I wanted to see how a writer portrayed an "otaku"...

First of all, I will tell you about the plot and then, as always, I will give you my personal opinion, hidden as a spoiler, in case you want to read it... This whole story revolves around the life of a boy named ** Manuel Cavalier**, who as I understood, has already graduated and is preparing for the exams that will make him apply for a scholarship abroad, since he graduated as an economist and is thinking about doing a master's degree or something like that. However, Manuel's true passion is drawing, more specifically manga. This has led him to create his own story, which he has taken to a comic format (because not being Japanese, that is what his project would be), under the name "Fire King". He draws this comic in a traditional way and publishes it under a pseudonym on the networks, managing to gain some popularity without realizing it.

One problem with Manuel is that he doesn't know how to socialize, more specifically, talk to women. This leads him to feel bad because all his life he has had to endure constant abuse disguised by his cousin, as well as being mocked for dedicating himself to watching anime and drawing. As expected, one day he meets Eugenia Rangel, the otaku girl, model and who coincidentally is a super fan of her online comic and upon hearing what her identity is, she does not hesitate to introduce herself and seek to make friends with the boy. Manuel is happy to meet someone so effusively interested in what he loves so much, but his obligations to studies always appear when he seems to be in tune with his true tastes.

When Eugenia asks Manuel why he has not continued with the story, Manuel tells her that it is a very arduous job that requires a lot of time and that he has to dedicate himself to other more important things. It is then that Eugenia insists that her project is also important and that she must follow it however she wants and she even offers to help him move forward with the project, even paying him for it. Unable to refuse the young woman's emotion and her obvious problem of giving in to others, Manuel ends up accepting her help and allows the girl to come to his house every day to work on the sequel to King of Fire, while also , will continue with his studies. A formula that little by little will wear him down.

In this way, Manuel begins to have contact with Eugenia, sharing with this peculiar girl, coming out of his shell and discovering what his true interests are, as he has to fight against his own prejudices, as well as the barriers that he himself creates. created over the years by the intervention of those around him.

I'm the kind of person who tends to comment while watching a movie (when I'm at home or watching online with my boyfriend or friends, who enjoy my opinions) and for the first time in my movie-going life, I paralyzed a movie so much that give extensive opinions on why what I was seeing seemed "good" or "bad." So, I will divide my opinion into two parts.
THE BAD: The title seems very weak to me, more than anything it seems to me to be a kind of way to draw attention to the film, something that cannot be done with its advertising, because the appearance of Eugenia as such is not that of an "otaku", believe me, I myself dress extravagantly and for years I have been rubbing shoulders with many girls with different looks based on Japanese urban cultures and Eugenia's look is very little close. to that. Rather, she would be seen as a "strawberry girl" in our environment.
The way in which Eugenia's character is described, at first she seemed to me like a person with psychiatric problems and even admitting that I met somewhat "crazy" otaku girls, Eugenia's level of dementia is excessive. The way she approached Manuel and how she got involved in his life seemed extremely invasive to me; Even though it helped him realize what her true interests were, I think that doesn't take away from the fact that the way she acted in many moments were "crazy acts." I think the matter could have been addressed in a less intense way.
The issue of the mother... At first, I could understand the way in which Manuel behaved and shut himself up, driven by the fear he had of her mother, who had always looked down on his taste in drawing. . Well... but when at the end, Manuel finally confesses to her mother what he wants and confronts her, she takes it with such a naturalness that she makes you scream "WHAT!?", on the spot. Perhaps, it was a non-existent fear that Manuel himself had formed in his head... but I simply could not understand how they could not create a better scene where the mother debated her decision with the boy and in the middle of the dialogue, she was able to glimpse through Manuel's courage when facing her, that he should let his son follow his dreams... That would have been better than simply: "Mom, I don't want to study abroad anymore, I want to dedicate myself to drawing manga"... "Well son, okay, what do you need? Do you want me to pay for a drawing course?"...
I hated the character of the cousin, I find the character detestable, but despite this, there are people who behave like this with others and even more so if they are family members, so I hope it was with the intention of raising awareness.
Finding some "similar" drawings on the web that you find in the movie and wishing they weren't carbon copies. As well as exaggerated and unreal things.
THE GOOD: I could continue talking about the bad things about the film, but we must also highlight the good, or rather, decent, things it has.
The poorly worked background of dedicating yourself to what you are most passionate about. Eugenia, as I mentioned, takes Manuel out of the bubble where he lives and helps him open his eyes, as well as learn to let himself be carried away by his own desires, instead of paying attention to what others say. Which allows him to be happy. It's a good message, but well... it's hard to think about that when watching the film in its entirety and how bizarre and uncomfortable some scenes are.
Before watching the movie, many friends who had seen it recommended me not to, for the sake of my mental health, because they couldn't see it in its entirety haha but as I always say, the best thing we can do is create our own opinion of things . I already saw it, I didn't like it at all, I felt out of place, maybe a little offended as an otaku, but at least I'm glad that those who liked it have to see it and talk to their friends. Yes, I identified a little with Manuel, since I once had the opportunity to meet in person an obsessive fan of my work and she acted a little like Eugenia. But the rest, nothing more... If you are an adventurous person who has free time and is not afraid of the cringe, I invite you to give the film a chance and have your own opinion about it.
