Perfect Days

Anyone who has seen even one Wim Wenders film knows what kind of cinematic experience awaits them. Once again, Wenders adheres faithfully to his personal themes: minimal dialogue, a solitary yet sympathetic protagonist, a blonde ethereal presence to disrupt his silent world, and philosophical contemplations on life and our place in the world. Perfect daysPerfect is akin to a younger sibling of "Paris, Texas," following in the footsteps that Wenders established cinematically in 1984.

However, with this particular film, Wenders pushes further on three fronts

Social commentary
Our protagonist works as a cleaner in public toilets, a position typically associated with low social status. Yet, we encounter two paradoxes: firstly, he approaches his work with incredible passion and consistency, making him an exceptionally effective member of society; secondly, despite his practical occupation, he maintains a voracious appetite for reading, acquiring knowledge, studying philosophy and poetry, and possessing an inner depth surpassing even the most educated individuals.

Existential commentary
The film serves as a guide to optimism, with Wenders advocating for an appreciation of life's moments, finding beauty in the mundane, and embracing daily routines with joy and kindness. The protagonist's ability to derive pleasure from simple experiences, from opening a soft drink to listening to an old cassette tape, underscores this existential outlook.

Innovative photography
Wenders employs original techniques in cinematography, enchanting viewers and immersing them in the protagonist's subconscious. From capturing the rustling of leaves to depicting the protagonist's black-and-white dreams, these techniques add depth and allure to the film.
While Perfect days unfolds at a leisurely pace, it never becomes dull. Wenders eschews traditional narrative structures in favor of depicting the daily life of a gentle, solitary man who chooses happiness, kindness, and morality regardless of his circumstances. The film's influence lies in its celebration of life's simple beauties, independent of one's occupation, financial status, or relationships.

I recommend watching it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
