A few weeks ago I reviewed about the documentary the girl from the Vatican and it seems that I stayed in that same region because days later I saw the film the Pontiff, thinking that it was a new and fictional story I started to see this film and it turns out that it was released in 2009 and it is not as fiction as it seems, It is about the legend of a girl named Juana, daughter of a very severe and fanatic catholic priest, who suffered a lot since her birth because of the upbringing her parents gave her, and because she had the desire to learn about the bible, also to learn to write and read skills that were denied to a woman.

Against all odds, Joan managed to get to Rome and become the first woman papisa (according to legend), under a false male identity, endangering her life. Apparently, it is a legend with foundations that support it in a true story.

Hace algunas semanas reseñé sobre el documental la chica del Vaticano y parece que me quedé en esa misma región porque días después vi la película la Pontífice, pensando que se trataba de una historia nueva y ficticia comencé a ver esta película y resulta que fue lanzada en el año 2009 y no es tan ficción como parece, pues se trata de la leyenda de una niña llamada Juana hija de un sacerdote de la religión católica muy severo y fanático, la cual sufrió mucho desde su nacimiento por la crianza que le dieron sus padres, y por qué ella tenía la inquietud de aprender sobre la biblia, también aprender a escribir y leer habilidades que eran negadas para una mujer.

Contra todo pronóstico, Juana logró llegar a Roma y convertirse en la primera mujer papisa (según la leyenda), bajo una identidad falsa masculina, poniendo en peligro su vida. Aparentemente, es una leyenda con fundamentos que la respaldan en una historia real.

Plot

The story begins with the birth of Juana in a humble hut in a very cold forest in Germany, she grows up with her parents and brothers being the only girl in the family, she observes how her father mistreats her mother denigrating her as a woman and person, he even forbade her to express her thoughts freely and accused her of being a sinner for any reason, beating her non-stop and in other occasions raping her as a punishment.

In the year 800 A.D. children were the only ones allowed to learn to read and write being the firstborn son the most privileged with opportunities, so a monk came to Juana's home to look for a child who would be the successor of his father in the church to give him classes and send him to study away, an opportunity that Juana took advantage of showing her skills in oratory, reading and understanding of the holy scriptures being selected instead of her brother to occupy the position in the boarding school.

This fact infuriated her father who then punished her strongly, she ran away from home to follow her passion and arrived at the boarding school where she was placed with her brother, from that moment Juana knew that wherever she was she would be humiliated because of her condition as a woman, but she was of a strong spirit and could resist even the harshest punishments.

As Juana could not live in the boarding school because she was the only woman, she was adopted by a family and so the years passed until she became a young lady, but this supposed papisa had an affair with the knight who took her into his home, infuriating the wife who forced her to marry and just at that time came the war of the crusades totally changing the course of her life. Assuming a masculine identity, she decided to enter a monastery where she specialized in healing medicine while continuing to learn several languages: Latin and Greek.

Argumento
La historia comienza con el nacimiento de Juana en una choza humilde dentro de un bosque muy frío de Alemania, crece con sus padres y hermanos siendo la única niña de la familia, observa cómo su padre maltrata a su madre denigrándola como mujer y persona, le prohibía hasta expresar su pensamiento de forma libre y la acusaba de ser una pecadora por cualquier motivo, golpeándola sin parar y en otras ocasiones violándola como castigo.

Es el año 800 D.C. los niños eran los únicos que se les permitía aprender a leer y escribir siendo el hijo primogénito el más privilegiado con oportunidades, por eso un monje llegó hasta el hogar de Juana a buscar un niño que sería el sucesor de su padre en la iglesia para darle clases y enviarlo a estudiar lejos oportunidad que juana aprovechó mostrando sus habilidades en oratoria, lectura y comprensión de las santas escrituras siendo seleccionada en lugar de su hermano a ocupar el puesto en el internado.

Este hecho enfureció a su padre que luego la castigó fuertemente, ella se escapa de su casa a seguir lo que tanto la apasionada y llegó al internado donde fue ubicada con su hermano, desde ese momento Juana sabía que donde quiera que estuviera iba a ser humillada por su condición de mujer, pero ella era de un espíritu fuerte podía resistir hasta los más duros castigos.

Como juana no podía vivir en el internado por ser la única mujer fue adoptada por una familia así pasaron los años hasta convertirse en una señorita, pero está supuesta papisa tuvo un romance con el caballero que la acobijo en su hogar enfureciendo a la esposa quien la obligó a casarse y justamente en esa época llegó la guerra de las cruzadas cambiando totalmente el rumbo de su vida. Asumiendo una identidad masculina, decidió ingresar en un monasterio donde se especializó en la medicina curativa mientras seguía aprendiendo de varios idiomas: el latín, y el griego.

The legends have a small part of the truth that is distorted over time and sometimes history changes facts enlarging the feats or exaggerating the circumstances, I do not know to what extent the story of this papacy is true according to the Vatican records there is no woman who has been pope, but also in the film give to understand that for having been discovered the church wanted to erase any trace of its history and the work that this person had developed.

As for the production was not great in terms of scenery and special effects, but the main characters such as Joan and the knight were well developed I thought they were authentic conveyed emotions and could also have been real, Joan was a woman who loved intensely even knowing the vow of chastity and although she had strong convictions about religion and what it was to be a good citizen or a good person she could not get away from the temptation or her essence of woman being the cause of her downfall.

After finishing the movie, I wanted to do some research on the story and I found articles where they say that she existed and others say that maybe they are rumors that were created to damage the image of the pope. Regardless, if the story is true or not, it is an inspiring movie for any woman because it motivates us to fight for our dreams, to have the strength to overcome obstacles, to take action and not to feel belittled by others, it invites us to know our value and to love what we want.

Opinión
Las leyendas tienen una pequeña parte de la verdad que sé tergiversa con el tiempo y a veces la historia cambia hechos agrandando las hazañas o exagerando las circunstancias, no sé hasta qué punto sea cierta la historia de esta papisa según no existe en los registros del vaticano una mujer que haya sido papa, pero también en la película dan a entender qué por haber sido descubierta la iglesia quiso borrar cualquier rastro de su historia y el trabajo que esta persona había desarrollado.

En cuanto a la producción no fue grandiosa en aspecto escenográficos y en efectos especiales, pero los personajes principales como el de Juana y el caballero estuvieron bien desarrollados me pareció que eran auténticos transmitían emociones y también podían haber sido reales, Juana fue una mujer que amó intensamente aun sabiendo del voto de castidad y aunque tenía fuertes convicciones sobre la religión y lo que era ser un buen ciudadano o una buena persona ella no pudo alejarse de la tentación ni de su esencia de mujer siendo esta la causante de su perdición.

Después de finalizar la película, me quise documentar un poco sobre la historia y encontré artículos donde dicen que ella existió y otros dicen que tal vez son rumores que se crearon para dañar la imagen del papa. Independientemente, si la historia es real o no es una película inspiradora para cualquier mujer porque nos motiva a luchar por nuestros sueños a tener la fuerza para superar los obstáculos a tomar acción y a no sentirnos menospreciadas por los demás, nos invita a conocer nuestro valor y amar lo que deseamos.
