Plot

It is a film made in Mexico, a multicultural country, where Ariel is a free soul who is dedicated to doing what makes her happy regardless of whether it generates large amounts of money, so her family is not taken very seriously. She comes from an upper middle class family with very closed beliefs, as she is old enough to get married she is constantly pressured to get a boyfriend and get engaged, but she does not like the options shown to her by her relatives and is closed to meet these gentlemen.

Until one day she meets Ivan, a boy who is not Jewish and who comes from a family of artists with a lot of recognition, she falls in love with this young man and they begin to live a relationship of several months where Ariela integrates perfectly to Ivan's family, knowing his culture, his roots and enjoying his friendships.

On the contrary, Ariela does not introduce Ivan to her family and they keep their relationship a secret until he presses her, but she knows that he will not be accepted and this is what wears their relationship down to the point of separation.

Although she tries to please her family and starts a new relationship with another person, it is not what she wants and ends up being a single, free and indomitable woman, as she signs in her artwork, Leona which is the real meaning of her name in Hebrew Ariela.

Argumento

Es una película realizada en México un país multicultural, donde Ariel es un alma libre que se dedica a hacer lo que la hace feliz sin importar si genera grandes cantidades de dinero por lo que no es tomada muy en serio su familia. Proviene de una familia de clase media alta y de creencias muy cerradas, como ya tiene edad para casarse es presionada constantemente para que consiga novio y se comprometa, pero a ella no le gustan las opciones que le muestran sus familiares y se cierra a conocer estos caballeros.

Hasta que un día conoce a Ivan un chico que no es judío y qué proviene de una familia de artistas sí mucho reconocimiento, ella se enamora sinceramente de este joven y comienzan a vivir una relación de varios meses donde Ariela se integra perfectamente a la familia de Iván conociendo su cultura, sus raíces y disfrutando de sus amistades.

Por el contrario, Ariela no presenta a Iván a su familia y mantienen en secreto su relación hasta que él la presiona, pero ella sabe que no será aceptado y este motivo es lo que desgasta su relación al punto de separarse.

Aunque ella intenta complacer a su familia e inicia una nueva relación con otra persona, no es lo que ella quiere y termina siendo una mujer soltera, libre e indomable, cómo firma en sus obras de arte, Leona que es el significado real de su nombre en hebreo Ariela.

Although it is a current film it shows the rules that the Jewish religion maintains and what determines the culture of some groups. The poster reflects the emotion of suffocation and drowning that the main character has during most of the movie.

I feel the intent of the film was aimed at a particular group, especially young Jews to see the pros and cons of not following the rules and understand why they have stuck together for so many centuries and how they have achieved success.

I was in a relationship with a young man of a different religion and although we came from the same Christian line believing in Jesus Christ I did not share many rituals of his religion so it was impossible for me to adapt to his and he did not want to adapt to mine either, this was a determining factor for our relationship to end just like the protagonists of the film. That is why I do believe that culture and religion have a great influence on the couple, we cannot hide our beliefs.

Since it is not only about the couple but also about the family of each one separately and if a new family is formed and the marriage is finalized, the topic of religion can cause important conflicts, that is why it is always advisable when you start to know a person to talk about religion and about the cultural topic that interests you.

To conclude I can say that Leona is a fresh film that shows a little bit of the religious rituals that we are used to and also about the traditions and values that preserve a family. It is a film that sends a good message even though it can be radical from one point of view and intolerant from the other, it invites you to reflect on couple issues and keeps you entertained by showing different romantic scenarios, a bit of humor and also some couple crisis.

Opinión

Aunque es una película actual muestra las reglas que mantiene la religión judía y lo que determina la cultura de algunos grupos. El póster refleja la emoción de asfixia y ahogo que tiene la protagonista durante la mayor parte de la película.

Siento que la intención de la película fue dirigida a un grupo particular, especialmente a los jóvenes judíos para que vean los pro y los contras de no seguir las reglas y entiendan por qué se han mantenido unidos durante tantos siglos y cómo han alcanzado el éxito.

Fue inevitable identificarme con la historia, ya que viví algo similar, yo estuve en una relación con un joven de una religión diferente y aunque veníamos de la misma línea cristiana creyente en Jesucristo no compartía muchos rituales de su religión por lo que me fue imposible adaptarme a la suya y él tampoco quiso adaptarse a la mía este fue un factor determinante para que nuestra relación se acabará igual que los protagonistas de la película. Por eso sí creo que la cultura y la religión influye mucho en la pareja, no se puede ocultar nuestras creencias.

Ya que no se trata solamente de la pareja sino de la familia de cada uno por separado y si se llegara a formar una nueva familia y concretar el matrimonio el tema de la religión puede ocasionar conflictos de importancia por eso siempre es recomendable cuando se empieza a conocer una persona hablar sobre la religión y sobre el tema cultural que les interesa.

Para concluir puedo decir que Leona es una película fresca que muestra un poco de los rituales religiosos que de repente nos estamos acostumbrados también sobre las tradiciones y los valores que preservan una familia. Es una película que envía un buen mensaje aunque puede ser radicales de un punto de vista e intolerante desde el otro te invita a reflexionar sobre los temas de pareja y te mantiene entretenido mostrando diversos escenarios románticos, un poco de humor y también algo de crisis de pareja.
