Las utopías salvajes funcionan: dos animaciones que te lo demuestran [ESP-ENG]

El término "utopía" no es tan abstracto en sí; alguna vez, en mis estudios de literatura, descubrí que suele ser un término maravilloso. Parece que el cine animado, al menos durante este 2024, se ha movido en esa dirección: mostrando fenómenos inimaginables en una mezcla arriesgada de humanidad, salvajismo, vínculos poderosos y amistades incondicionales. No es para menos: el mayor público de las animaciones occidentales se encuentra en los niños. No obstante, tocar ciertos temas y desplazar otros puede ser un arma de doble filo... entonces, ¿a qué viene eso de utopía salvaje?

Divago en términos, lo sé; pero yo lo asocio a la temática actual que busca mezclar el mundo salvaje en un sistema armónico: humano. Aunque lo hemos visto, vale resaltar que no como lo intentas mostrar estas dos películas que detallaré a continuación:

The term “utopia” is not so abstract per se; once, in my literature studies, I discovered that it can be a wonderful term.. It seems that animated cinema, at least during this 2024, has moved in that direction: showing unimaginable phenomena in a risky mix of humanity, savagery, powerful bonds and unconditional friendships. No wonder: the biggest audience for Western animations is found in children. However, touching on certain themes and displacing others can be a double-edged sword... so what's with the wild utopia?

I digress in terms, I know; but I associate it with the current theme that seeks to blend the wild world into a harmonious system: human. Although we have seen it, it is worth noting that it is not the way these two films that I will detail below try to show it:

1 - Flow

Un asustadizo gato negro tendrá que escapar de la gran inundación que devora la tierra; para lograrlo, tendrá que compartir amistad con una capibara, un lémur, un perro y un ave blanca. La aventura sobre un barco los llevará a rincones peligrosos; el agua avanzará enrollando a este grupo de animales que, a priori, parecieran no tener un vínculo especial. Sin embargo, como supervivientes del apocalipsis que se traga la superficie, deberán romper paradigmas y trabajar en equipo.

Flow es una animación atípica. Todo el largometraje se sustenta en el poder de las imágenes y los sonidos: no hay habla, no hay humanos... la película es hermosa: una joya de origen europeo que busca una conexión más profunda con el espectador. Hay magia, por supuesto: los animales parecen tener una conexion especial con el entorno, algo que va más allá del instinto salvaje.

A frightened black cat will have to escape from the great flood that devours the land; to do so, he will have to share friendship with a capybara, a lemur, a dog and a white bird. The adventure on a boat will take them to dangerous corners; the water will advance rolling up this group of animals that, a priori, seem not to have a special bond. However, as survivors of the apocalypse that swallows the surface, they will have to break paradigms and work as a team.

Flow is an atypical animation. The entire feature is sustained by the power of images and sounds: there is no speech, no humans... the film is beautiful: a jewel of European origin that seeks a deeper connection with the viewer. There is magic, of course: the animals seem to have a special connection with the environment, something that goes beyond wild instinct.

La utopía, en este caso, busca entrelazar las especies con elementos que van en contra de su naturaleza: se nos presenta una amistad elemental, guiada por el instinto que se desarrolla para la supervivencia. Algo que elimina el eslabón de origen, esa programación natural que la propia naturaleza se encarga de equilibrar. De allí que Flow sea una película tan conmovedora, tan extraña y a la vez tan hermosa.

Utopia, in this case, seeks to intertwine the species with elements that go against their nature: we are presented with an elemental friendship, guided by the instinct that develops for survival. Something that eliminates the link of origin, that natural programming that nature itself takes care of balancing. That is why Flow is such a moving film, so strange and yet so beautiful.

2 - The Wild Robot

Un Robot programado para ayudar con tareas básicas aparece de la nada en medio de un bosque; sin alguien que le diga que hacer, Roz, el robot complaciente, tendrá que adaptarse al entorno salvaje para intentar descifrarlo. Sin embargo, tras un accidente mortal, Roz deberá hacerse cargo de un gansito que la ve como su madre. Envueltos en peligro y con la ayuda de un astuto zorro, tanto Roz como el ganso bebé vivirán una aventura en la que el vínculo y el amor materno son los principales protagonistas.

The Wild Robot viene a ser la redención del estudio Dreamworks, el cual apunta a mostrar el lado más cruel y salvaje, pero también el más hermoso y el afectivo. La película es cruda en la realidad de la naturaleza, y, sin embargo, es fácil enfatizar con ella. La belleza del amor, aun cuando no hay nada en común, irradia en la pantalla bajo la maternidad, la esperanza y el bien en común.

A Robot programmed to help with basic tasks appears out of nowhere in the middle of a forest; with no one to tell it what to do, Roz, the compliant robot, will have to adapt to the wild environment to try to figure it out. However, after a fatal accident, Roz will have to take care of a little goose that sees her as its mother. Embroiled in danger and with the help of a cunning fox, both Roz and the baby goose will live an adventure in which maternal bonding and love are the main protagonists.

The Wild Robot is the redemption of Dreamworks studio, which aims to show the cruelest and wildest side, but also the most beautiful and affectionate. The film is raw in the reality of nature, and yet it is easy to emphasize with it. The beauty of love, even when there is nothing in common, radiates on the screen under motherhood, hope and common good.

De nuevo, la utopía que mezcla elementos salvajes y caóticos, que parecen llegar a un acuerdo por supervivencia. Lo mágico de todo esto es que convence, no solo en términos infantiles, sino en un ámbito más adulto. Tanto Flow como The Wild Robot tienen una belleza excepcional: son películas de animación diferentes, complejas y profundas. Ambas merecen el buen recibimiento que han tenido, y, con creces, el lugar hacia el premio Oscar a mejor película animada.

Again, the utopia that mixes wild and chaotic elements, which seem to reach an agreement for survival. The magic of it all is that it convinces, not only in children's terms, but in a more adult scope. Both Flow and The Wild Robot are exceptionally beautiful: they are different, complex and profound animated films. Both deserve the good reception they have received, and, by far, the place towards the Oscar award for best animated film.
