La secuestraron sin saber que era un monstro - Abigail: Opinión [ESP-ENG]

Entre todas las cosas que ha hecho Joey para ganar dinero y recuperar el amor de su hijo, le ha tocado una que parece el trabajo más mortal y sangriento: secuestrar a una niña llamada Abigaíl y mantenerla dentro de una mansión por 24 horas. Para esto, Joey tendrá la ayuda de otros delincuentes. Nada parece difícil, hasta que, de pronto, alguien es asesinado. Uno de los secuestradores pierde la cabeza y no literalmente.

Entonces, el verdadero juego comienza.

Joey y el resto de secuestradores deberán indagar sobre el origen del asesinato, sin saber qué, por muy irónico que parezca, ellos forman parte de un banquete especial: uno en el que suenan deliciosos para una niña que, de manera muy inteligente, les ha tendido una trampa.

Estaba esperando este film desde que vi el trailer oficial y me enteré de que Tyler Gillett y Matt Bettinelli estaban a cargo del trabajo creativo. Para quienes no conocen la filmografía de estos dos grandes cerebros del horror satírico, ambos trabajaron en la confección de Ready or Not, uno de los filmes más notables y satisfactorios que he podido ver. Para esta ocasión, Tyler y Matt siguieron un poco aquella línea de la supervivencia, pero una supervivencia marcada por un personaje bastante atípico: una niñita.

Las primeras líneas de la película te adentran a esos Thrillers policiacos en los que alguien es asesinado y, luego, los demás corren peligro. Por supuesto, no es lo que Matt y Tyler quieren que veas. No es allí donde debes mirar. Ciertas cosas arruinan sorpresas de fondo, pero no por eso los giros de trama dejan de sorprenderte. Hay mímica por doquier, como por ejemplo:

¿Cómo matarías tú a un vampiro? ¿Ajo? ¿Estacas de madera? ¿Luz solar? La presentación de estos elementos, a priori, te sacarán algunas carcajadas mientras ves la película.

Abigail es una de esas películas de horror y humor negro que terminan por convencerte, aun cuando no parece un largometraje trascendental. La historia busca voltear los papeles entre el cazador y la presa, involucrando unos cuantos vampiros, explosiones sangrientas y secretos más que bien guardados detrás de varios colmillos.

Conocerás a un grupo de bastardos que, aunque merecen ser devorados, no parecen ser tan monstruos como la niña que habían subestimado. A partir del punto en el que descubren que son ellos los que deben correr por sus vidas, es que la verdadera diversión comienza. En este punto, ya habrás conocido por qué un vampiro rima mejor con unos buenos pasos de ballet y algunos cuantos litros de sangre.

Ahora bien, la personificación vampiresa es un poco similar a lo que hemos visto en otras películas: pero, definitivamente, nada igual a crepúsculo o esos vampiros odiosamente estúpidos.

Algo en Abigaíl me ayudó a recordar otras películas, como por ejemplo: "Saw". No es lo mismo, desde luego, pero si se perece un poco a esas triquiñuelas donde los malos merecen un castigo con un juego. Lo que si veo bastante curioso, son esas explosiones sangrientas que hicieron su aparición también en Ready or Not. Es bastante dantesco mirarlas, pero por alguna razón, no deja de sonar divertido.

Si bien el Trailer revela mucho de lo que hubiera preferido, todavía hay ciertas cosas que los directores y guionistas de esta película reservan para un mejor show de colmillos, gritos y sorpresas. El film no es perfecto. En ocasiones, lo sentí algo vago. Pero si te sientas en tu sofá a disfrutarlo, verás que todavía puede disfrutarse con todos sus defectos.

Algo que me sorprendió de este Film, fue la participación de Angus Cloud dentro del reparto oficial. Recuerdo a este actor desde que vi la serie de televisión "Euphoria", pero nunca había imaginado que también participó en otra producción antes de su muerte el año pasado.

Es la primera vez que veo a Melissa Barrera dentro de un largometraje, y para ser protagonista de una cinta de vampiros y cosas locas, me gustó su papel. Aunque la gran sorpresa para mí fue Alisha Weir en su rol pertubardor de bailarina sangrienta.

Abigail es un film que te devolverá un poco de ese miedo a los vampiros, o tal vez un poco de ese amor. Como sea, la historia de Joey y su desafortunado grupo de amigos también te dará una reflexión familiar:

"No le pidas amor a alguien al que nunca se lo han dado..."

Eso, al menos en esta película, está bastante jodido.

Among all the things Joey has done to earn money and win back his son's love, he has had one that seems like the most deadly and bloody job: kidnapping a girl named Abigail and keeping her inside a mansion for 24 hours. I was waiting for this film since I saw the official trailer and found out that Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli were in charge of the creative work. For those who do not know the filmography of these two great brains of satirical horror, both worked on the making of Ready or Not, one of the most notable and satisfying films I have ever seen. For this occasion, Tyler and Matt followed that line of survival a bit, but a survival marked by a rather atypical character: a little girl.

The first lines of the film take you into those police thrillers in which someone is murdered and, then, the others are in danger. Of course, it's not what Matt and Tyler want you to see. That's not where you should look. Certain things ruin underlying surprises, but that doesn't mean the plot twists stop surprising you. There is mimicry everywhere, such as:

How would you kill a vampire? Garlic? Wooden stakes? Sunshine? The presentation of these elements, a priori, will make you laugh a few times while you watch the film.

Abigail is one of those horror and black humor films that end up convincing you, even when it doesn't seem like a transcendent feature film. The story seeks to turn the tables between the hunter and the prey, involving a few vampires, bloody explosions and well-kept secrets behind several fangs.

You will meet a group of bastards who, although they deserve to be eaten, do not seem to be as monsters as the girl they had underestimated. From the point where they discover that they are the ones who must run for their lives, the real fun begins. At this point, you will have already learned why a vampire rhymes better with a few good ballet steps and a few liters of blood.

Now, the vampire personification is a bit similar to what we've seen in other movies: but definitely nothing like Twilight or those obnoxiously stupid vampires.

Something about Abigail helped me remember other movies, like "Saw." It's not the same, of course, but it does resemble those tricks where the bad guys deserve a punishment with a game. What I do find quite curious are those bloody explosions that also made their appearance in Ready or Not. It's pretty gruesome to look at, but for some reason, it still sounds fun.

While the Trailer reveals much of what I would have preferred, there are still certain things that the directors and writers of this film reserve for a better show of fangs, screams and surprises. The film is not perfect. At times, it felt a little vague. But if you sit on your couch and enjoy it, you will see that it can still be enjoyed with all its flaws.

Something that surprised me about this Film was the participation of Angus Cloud within the official cast. I remember this actor since I saw the TV series "Euphoria", but I had never imagined that he also participated in another production before his death last year.

It's the first time I've seen Melissa Barrera in a feature film, and for being the protagonist of a film about vampires and crazy things, I liked her role. Although the big surprise for me was Alisha Weir in her disturbing role as a bloody dancer.

Abigail is a film that will bring back a little of that fear of vampires, or maybe a little of that love. Either way, the story of Joey and his unfortunate group of friends will also give you some familiar food for thought:

"Don't ask for love from someone who has never been given it..."

That, at least in this movie, is pretty fucked up.
